(Because I Got Lucky is a bad name for a thread)
I had my lap top stolen while I was showering at the Rutgers gym. It was right next to me in my bag. I stepped out, dressed, and noticed the bag was gone. I ran into the locker room and saw it in the corner and that it was searched through. The laptop was gone. I filled a police report immediately. Doing so prevented me from running to the back exit because I was told to wait. Ironically, fifteen minutes, next to the back exit is where the laptop was found. It was right next to a doorway that, if stepped through, sounds an alarm, and another doorway that has a student monitoring it. My theory is that the thief figured he'd get caught and left it there. I got lucky that the thief wasn't enough of a go-getter.
Now you share a story!

So I was stealing a bag at the Rutgers gym...

Way to go, Ben-- er, Keith!
Those happenings are neato burrito.
Off the top of my head, I can't think of a recent circumstance in which I thought, Wow, that was lucky.
Although, speaking of nice things, today I got my grade back for a test in a class I'm not doing so hot in, and I got a 96! Then, my next class was canceled, and I usually have an hour break after that class, so today I had 2 free hours. So I went to the park and rode my bike, and it was very beautiful outside. Perfect weather, and I had conveniently brought my iPod and headphones. Then I went and bought an M&M Double Doozie. I had to go back to school for my next class, and afterward I got a free H1N1 vaccine that the school was giving out. After that, I went into a piercing place to see about getting some earrings I had seen earlier. The owner was really nice, and while she ordered the earrings, she threw a pair of socks at me and told me to keep them. They are decorated socks. She pierces things and also sells socks and accessories. Hm.

I GOT MY LICENSE BACK FROM THE VA DMV! After working on this for a month, when it came down to the line yesterday, a miracle happened and I got my address exception, ordered my replacement license and it is on it's way!

A few years ago I was adjunct teaching at two colleges in my town. I was splitting 5 or 6 classes between two schools, and I did most of my grading at a local coffee shop--I didn't have a stable office at either school. After one particularly grueling grading session (several jittery hours--I'm a composition/rhetoric/English instructor, which is very time-intensive), I left said coffee shop to teach. After teaching, and arriving home, I simply couldn't find the 30 student drafts I had graded that day. HOURS of work, for two different colleges, simply not found. I was pretty frantic and starting to REALLY spazz out when the phone rang.
HERE IS WHAT HAPPENED--I left the coffee shop, f'n tweaked out of my mind on caffeine, and apparently put my student drafts on top of my car. I then took off, obviously with no knowledge of them being up there.
An extremely destitute man (this I found out later) saw this occur, and ran around on a very busy intersection gathering up alllllllll of my papers. ALL of them. Of the 30 drafts, at 4-5 pages a piece, literally 2 or 3 total pages were missing. He found my syllabus, called my department, and then arranged for a pick up spot.
THEN he tried to extort money from me. All I had was ten bucks on me, which I gladly GLADLY parted with.
I got very, very lucky that day.

Why did you take your laptop to the gym?
-
I got into the Sundance Theater Lab. I was driving when I got the call, and I knew who it was. I usually never pick up while I'm driving, but I got this weird irrational panic that my slot would go to someone else if I let it go to voicemail, so I just said yes, I'm in, let me call you back! And then I got pulled over and was given a $130 ticket.
It sucks, but I never trust it when unequivocally good things happen to me, so in a way it's sort of a relief. Not to mention that I think cell phone laws are a good idea.

Who would take their laptop to the gym?

last nite i was sitting next to my roommate watching television while she swooned and giggled about someone that has a crush on her sending her gooshy feel goods (all the while texting her more while she went on) and i felt so uncomfortable i went to my room to call my brothers and see what they were up to.
incidentally, i had a text message waiting, telling me i was "beautiful" and "hot"- from a platonic friend! what the heck?!
p.s. i stayed up til 3:30 a.m. talking to this person. *swoon* :-* :-* :-*

That sounds like a no-longer-platonic friend.

Thanks, guys. If anyone has a prank they've always wanted to play on Robert Redford, and that prank won't kill him, let me know.
