Title: The Thick Of It
Post by: effecT on November 21, 2009, 07:42:43 PM
Does anybody watch this show at the moment and does agree with me that the new minister-lady is a not a good cast and not a good whipping boy at all measuring to Hugh? Or do you actually like the third season better?

I like her a lot. I don't know if you do or don't know anything about UK politics but she's an analogous composite of at least three female ministers.
It's without a doubt one of the sharpest shows on TV today.

Thanks, BBCAmerica, for showing literally none of the best British TV has to offer.

And thanks for limitless hours of British home and clothing reality shows.  Good job, people.

Well, i have to say that i do not follow UK politics but if you say she is based on people in the current administration i will do a bit of reading to see how well this is done. Guardian-homepage here i come.

First season plus a couple of specials are out on DVD (R2). With some minimal sleuthing you can find all seasons (S1 + the specials (S2) + the ongoing S3) online as torrents and such.

I don't get a lot (ok, most) of the references to specific people but even factoring those out the writing is still brilliant.  I thought the new season dipped a little in eps 2 & 3 but the return of the opposition party has been great.  I miss Jamie though, even though it probably doesn't make much sense for him to be there.

www.thebox.bz is a good place to download it and any other British TV shows, I have a barce of invites so hit me up if you need one.
The majority of BBC America shows aren't even BBC shows, it's a separate entity that uses the BBC brand, they show ITV, Channel 4 and and a lot of Channel 5 shows (read cheap shit).

Hey, how come China gets its own region.
And why are Japan and South Africa so isolated from the rest of region 2 while Australia and NZ are sharing DVDs with Latin America.

Why is the thread for this great show buried in the pit that is the Mike subforum?  I almost didn't see it.

I was wondering that too.  I suggest this thread be moved ASAFP.

EDIT: Not about the "pit" part, although digging pits is fast becoming part of Mike Show lore.

Who are you kidding? You've been poring over this forum every day just waiting to take your first jab. Frankly, I'm surprised it took you this long.

Didn't you see my post saying I liked The Wire more than Mad Men? Didn't that count for anything?

Because Mike is the only one who gets this round these parts. Tom does not care, but Mike cares and takes his shirt off.
Don't you get it MAAAAAN?

We do agree on one thing: Sopranos was the best.

Rebecca Front, who plays the minister in the current run, may be familiar to Iannucci fans from The Day Today (where she was Rosie May, environmental correspondent), and Knowing Me Knowing You.

Thanks Chris, I had no idea it broke the standard UK 6 episode series.

Just watched it.

Every character in this show is superb, but it is Malcolm Tucker's relentlessly inventive invective, that defies all odds by toppling into neither the abyss of puerility nor burying itself in the catacomb of cliche, that makes this show a must see.

If there are any Free Alt Weekly editors reading this post that are looking for a TV reviewer feel free to hit me up. I could use the money.

I was also (pleasantly) surprised that they ditched the six-episode standard and went for a two-part finale. Haven't seen it yet.

This new guy seems like a real psycho...
i wonder how they will develop him further and imho this series is far from being over. There is room for at least 2 more seasons.

Malcolm Tucker now has his own column in the Guardian, I guess for the run up to the impending General Election.

I find it really strange that this series hasn't been put out on DVD in region 1, especially with In The Loop being so well received here.

There's a big-ass box set containing all three seasons + the specials coming out in late April on R2. I'd be surprised if that doesn't become available in some form in the US.

I certainly hope so…

Has anyone been paying attention to the stuff Eric Massa said about Rahm Emanuel? Immediately made me think of Malcolm…

"[He is] the son of the devil's spawn."

"He is an individual who would sell his mother to get a vote. He would strap his children to the front end of a steam locomotive."

"Let me tell you a story about Rahm Emanuel. I was a congressman in my first eight weeks, and I was in the congressional gym, and I went down and I worked out and I went into the showers...I'm sitting there showering, naked as a jaybird and here comes Rahm Emanuel not even with a towel wrapped around his tush, poking his finger in my chest, yelling at me because I wasn't going to vote for the president's budget. Do you know how awkward it is to have a political argument with a naked man?"
