Title: Bed Music Question
Post by: wood and iron on November 29, 2009, 10:43:08 AM
I was just listening to the show from April 1st, 2008. What's the bed music during that one? The music has a lot of horns and sounds pretty great.

Any help would be appreciated.

If it's the one I'm thinking of, it's probably a selection from the score to Magnolia.

Is it "The Grunt" by James Brown (The JBs, actually)? I know that has been used as bed music in the past.

Since we're on this topic, what was the bed music back in 2006?  I loved it and never found out what it was.  Hmmm, how do I imitate it in text? Let's try this:

The beginning sounds like some kind of electric appliance winding down and then a slow, menacing, groovy CHUNG-a CHUNG-a CHUNG-a CHUNG-a CHUNG-a beat.

No, it's not "The Boy Next Door" from Meet Me In St. Louis.

That's something by Trans Am, called "Enforcer". Because that is what Tom is. He enforces goodness.

I'm pretty sure you're talking about "Enforcer" by Trans Am.

There's a clip here if you want to double-check: http://www.transband.com/mp3s/Enforcer_edit.mp3

Edit: Stupornaut beat me to it!

Has that really not been used since 2006?

I feel old.

Yep. That's it. Trans Am.

THANKS!

By the way, it may have also been used in 2007, but I was certain of 2006 because that was when I became a regular listener.

i'm pretty sure every time someone asked what that bed music was tom would say "i made that!"

off topic but i wish i knew what the background music OCDJ used for the last year or 2 of his show was... i never asked him and now he's pretty much disappeared off the face of the earth.

My god, that audio clip totally evokes the Best Show from that time period for me... I just start bobbing my head and waiting for the fun to start.  Between this & Magnolia, some fantastic selections for bed music in the show's earlier days...

Only advantage of not using "Trans Am" anymore: my wife (girlfriend at the time) not yelling from the other room, "what the HELL is that SOUND" any time the "bweeeeeeeeeeeee bwee bwee bwee..." came on.  Well, that and an awesome new theme song.
