Title: HMan vs Wally Wackiman
Post by: DoodleJump! on December 09, 2009, 01:17:42 AM
Who will win? Who's the better protégé?

If you are asking me who I think will win, I would choose Wally Wackiman. If you are asking me who I want to win, I would choose the H-Man.

Although, I like both of them.

I look forward to the duel, but I think having a puppet on the radio is too funny a concept to let pass by.

In fairness (unfairness?), your profile pic, nec13, does allow you to have it both ways.

Everyone wants Tom's crown, it seems. A classic tale of a war of succession. I say that in the chaos Mike will become the new protege, kill Tom and burn down the studio. I haven't slept in a while.

I think HMan is the better protege. He can be molded. I think Wally Wackiman has an insane radio presence that the HMan does not have... yet. Which is okay, because that's the whole point of being a protege. Hang in there HMan. This is your "Rocky III".

very very surprised.. but wally's episode immediately became one of my favourites of the entire year! wackimen's immediate wit/rapport with callers, tom (and mike in the background)'s reactions, newport richey's overly aggressive/insulting call & of course the epic sibling rivalry. would love to have wally co-host again asap!

HMan,

You too can get into this puppetry game, and best of all, you don't need any special materials

From the Knox County library website

Puppets out of Anything Tuesday, January 12, 2010, 4pm
Farragut Branch Library

Back by popular demand! Did you know you can make a puppet out of just about anything? Join Ms. Vivian as we take a quick look into the world of puppetry and create our very own puppets. Bring something from home for your puppet base if you wish. A variety of craft materials will be supplied. You can also bring something to stump Ms. Vivian! Can she really make a puppet out of anything? The most unusual item brought will be chosen at each program for her to see what she can do in less than 5 minutes? Will she be able to do it? Come and see.

This is, like, my third post. But one of the reasons I needed to get on the FOT Forum (besides the fact that I have tons of free time at the moment and am chronically addicted to the archives) is that I really feel that Wally is the true protege. No disrespect to H-man, but I think he's got another path--to greatness, I know not. But it's something else. The name "Wackiman" belies this particular puppet's true nature. Like the truest of clowns (IMO), he is crying inside. This gives him an edge that Hman doesn't really seem to possess. Hman exudes a healthy adolescence, and an optimism that I find refreshing. And Hman seems so eager to step up to the plate that I really admire him. Beethoven said that the difference between the great composers and the good ones was "personality." I believe we are all mediums of our confused consciousness, and Wackiman is a conduit of some potency that transcends his inanimation. Tom in his grand wisdom has been putting Hman through a trial of fire that will probably make him a better person and fortify him into a true personality. But we live in the present, not the future, and wackiman is the
NOW...?

When this was first posted I voted for Wally but I think I must have been high from the fumes coming off of the rubber cement that holds Wally's eyes in place because the H-Man is the true protege. Wally, you're a great puppet and your pal Z-Man is top notch but I can not turn my back on the H-man again.

I prefer Wally. He really did have an answer for everything. H-Man comes off as a little desperate when he tries to prove he is the true protege. Desperation may not be the right word - perhaps he is overcompensating?

I believe H-Man should retain the protege title because he is more even keeled than Wally. I think that Wally should be used as an AP Mike protege or as a sidekick to H-man. Wally is the funny man to H-man's straight man.

I think he's just now getting over the one-two punches to his post in life. He thought the "protoge" label, once announced, could not be taken away from him... Let alone taken by someone as unassuming as a goofy-voiced sock with a hand in it.

Last week H-man sounded determined to reclaim his glory but Wally's confidence will be difficult, at this stage, to overcome.

All I have to say to Wally is "watch your back!" You could be the next Fallen Protogé.

Maybe you haven't seen pics of him, but I take offense, on Wally's behalf, and mine.  I worked quite hard on him, with many pieces of foam constructed together, and covered and hand-sewn with fleece.  A sock with a hand in it, he is not.  Of course, I am saying this, half-jokingly, not being uptight, but still.  I put a lot of effort into him, so ya know.  Thanks.

Tomorrow night's showdown will be a memorable one.  Wally is a tough challenger, but I have been preparing for this moment ever since he stole the protege position from me.  Puppets are meant to be seen and heard.  He can go on tv all he wants, but radio is where I will win the battle.

Secondly, this is RADIO. If I see you as a sock, you're a sock. Maybe once you get the Late Night with Wally Wackiman on NBC I'll start seeing you for who you really are. As it stands you're in deep sock territory from here on in.

Aw poo. I thought I could reset the poll and start it anew for tonight, but all I did was reset the poll...and it's still expired. Oh well.

I can't make up my mind on who I want to win! I like both pretty equally. I kinda hope Tom doesn't choose one and the tension continues.

I'm with the humans. You let a puppet be your protege and the next thing you know there's strands of fuzz all over everything in the studio, and you KNOW how that stuff sticks to fudge.

Didn't any of you people see the Anthony Hopkins film Magic? Nothing good can happen when the puppeteer falls in love. It's only a matter of time before Wally's shanking everything in sight.

Really, it's kind of impossible for there to be a protege. Terre T kinda said so, and Tom almost said so before the surprise ending to this very suspenseful episode.

But I tell you what: I think Wally wins Best Sidekick. By a mile. I hope to hear him on the show again in that capacity.
