Let's start this out right. The legendary LA Times review of a Gallagher live show in Cerritos, CA in 1999 where Gallagher tried to "embrace" the Latino community.

There is no way something this horrible doesn't exist on video, right? Anyone?

I don't want to believe this is real but when it comes to the awfulness of Gallagher, I think we can be sure that it's real.

Here's the recent interview Gallagher did with the AV Club that actually made people think of him for the first time years:

A recent "Comedy and Everything Else" had a decent bit about the AV Club article, but the LA Times thing is the funniest thing I've come across in a long time.

The video clip of the poor guy having his set interrupted by Gallagher was pretty awful. It's bad enough when people in general interrupt your set but when the guy interrupting you is GALLAGHER? OUCH.

Having just now gotten around to getting familiar with current comedians, I have never heard of this guy before ever. I read the interview and thought, mmmk whatever. Then I watched the video, and man, that guy is a jerk.

I'm a comic and I usually have a water bottle onstage. Plus I usually wear black t-shirts. He'd have a field day with me.

Never heard of Gallagher? Interesting. His specials used to be staples in Comedy Central's rotation. I grew up watching his stuff and I'm in my early (fine, maybe mid) 20's.

Before DJ's time, then.

Admittedly, I am of an age where I grew up loving him on "Make Me Laugh." He was the clean-up hitter. Person hasn't laughed yet? Bring in Gallagher. And compared to the other guys they brought out, Gallagher was funny. But then again, I was 10 when I had this opinion.
Now I am 40, and I am reading these articles and watching these clips and I am sad to see the man he has become. He rants against mediocrity and then complains that people don't follow the "right, moral" way to act? He interrupts warm-up comedians because they might steal his words and topics, and because they are HIS props? Ew brother.
Perhaps when the day comes and God smashes Gallagher with his cosmic mallet, we will look back and re-evaluate Gallagher as comedy's G.G. Allin.
Wait. That will never happen.

Oh, and one more thing...

Like I said before, I am just now getting into comedy. I never watched Comedy Central when I was younger. I was just into reading Dickens and climbing trees up until college.
