The city has reportedly chosen a new amusement park operator for Coney Island.
Sources tell NY1 that Zamperla USA was named the new amusement park operator for Coney Island Tuesday.
The company was among several others vying for the operating rights, including Ripley's Believe or Not and Steel Pier.
Contenders for the rights had to submit proposals, which included developing at one of the three parcels of land between the former Astroland site and KeySpan Park.
Sources say Zamperla's plan included developing all three.
City officials want the rides up and running by this summer.
The city acquired the land from developer Joe Sitt last month.
Zamperla is an Italian company and is one of the largest manufactures of amusement rides in the world with its American headquarters based out of Parsippany, New Jersey.

Italian carnies?

When the new rides go in we should have a listener party on the Boardwalk. That would be fun!

My main concern is that The Warriors will still have a place to live.

The Gramercy Riffs should have beaten the living shit out of The Warriors at the end of the movie, when the guy who took over the Riffs says "You Warriors are good...reeaaaaal good" and Swan shoots his mouth off and yells "We're the best!" back at him.
You're not the best, Swan. The Riffs are the best. There are 500 of them and they all know karate and carry hockey sticks around with them and can order around all the other gangs whenever they want and they just kind of saved your life, and you go and take a heartfelt compliment and throw it back in their faces? And you have the nerve to do it when the two best Warriors aren't even around to back that kind of talk up. Honestly, the only thing that could have improved The Warriors besides more Baseball Fury screen time would be if it ended with the Riffs beating Swan to death while the credits rolled and "In The City" played.
Italian carnies?
Go make-a my funnel cake!

What I want to know is how this affects the fate of Shoot the Freak.
One of the best things I ever heard was this said over a megaphone while I was walking down the boardwalk:
"Happy Easter.
Happy Passover.
Shoot the Freak.
He won't shoot back."

Ooo, I had such a crush on Swan when I was young!

Who are you, Joe Dolce?
(whoever started us off on the Warriors, eff you! I've got work to do!)

When the Warriors started thier subway journey to the Bronx, one them was put in charge of feeding the tokens into the turnstyle as each member passed. I always thought that was bogus. They should have all jumped the turnstyles like real gang members.
If this were filmed today I guess that token guy would just keep swiping a loaded up Metro card. ;D

from the wikipage
Vermin (Terry Michos): Quick with a smile and a joke, Vermin is the most cynical member of the gang, but a solid soldier and extremely loyal. He is tasked with carrying the tokens and money to the meeting. In an early script, he is shot and killed by the Lizzies, but in the finished script he survives the attack.
Remember the warriors being called on: "War-ri-ors, come out and pla-ay".

The Furies (the baseball gang) don't live in Coney Island, you Deno(Wonder Wheel)dummy!

Hey Harold it's Nicole from next door. Glad to hear they got an operator. You think these guys will do a good job?
I was psyched to hear you call and talk to Wally on Tuesday!
-
Harold, great job keeping us abreast of developments for Coney. Older generations of my family lived on Mermaid Ave back in the day, and it will be nice to have pictures to show them since they remember the blight of the last three decades most vividly.
I just wish the people under the rollercoaster were still there. Now THAT is a New York story.

Hi Nicole! Yes, I think they will do fine. I was at a Save Coney Island meeting tonight in Coney, and I was told that Zamperla will be using Coney Island to showcase it's latest rides. Amusement owners from all over the world will come to Coney to see the latest rides in action.
This means the freshest and best rides will come to Coney.
This was the deal they used to have at Palisades Amusement Park in NJ. Rides manufacturers used to show off their newest rides at this fabled NJ amusement park.

They were my family. That's my Cousin Fred and his girlfriend Mae. They lived under the Roller Coaster and every time the ride roared above them and shook their house they just thought of the cash register ringing.

I'm so glad you are happy with the outcome. I know how much work and energy you have put into this cause.
