His childhood experiences in "The City of Brotherly Love" were the basis for the Scharpling & Wurster character Philly Boy Roy. Philly Boy Roy's voice and mannerisms are based on Tompkins as well. Tompkins is credited with winning the inaugural "Running of the Cheesesteaks" in 1988. Philly Boy Roy would later popularize the event in a "Scharpling & Wurster" sketch.

The PFT/PBR connection is absolutely false.  I've always suspected that PBR is largely based on Mitch Rochon, the troubled cousin of Flag of Democracy bass player Dave Rochon.

An FOD reference! I met those dudes at a house show in the mid-90s, where I bought a 3/4-length tee of theirs and they introduced me to the power pop punk stylings of Snuff. When I wore said tee to a Chisel show at The Cooler later that summer, it sparked a nostalgic conversation between Ted Leo and Matt Sweeney about the legacy of NJ's Buy Our Records.
