Title: NYC/Brooklyn/Greenpoint FOT - Let's go see Klausner!

Klausner is at Word in Brooklyn this Tues. (Also the dude who wrote The Underminer, Mike Albo) Does anyone want to meet at the Black Rabbit or the Pencil Factory for an egg cream or a phosphate?

I have a bad feeling that this Tuesday's Best Show is gonna be the awards show. But I want to go see this, and then we'll all race home to catch the rest of the show, yes yes? And some of youse guys can live-tweet the awards, right? Tell us what everyone's wearing?

I will be there!

Don't tell anyone, but I listen to the show on podcast anyway. SHH! It helps me get through the end of the week at work.

Hey Guys,
I don't think I can leave work early enough to get to the bar but I should be able to get to Word by 730.
I will try to figure out who you are and say hi!!!

I will have a red boutonniere so you can all spot me easily.

Shall we say the Black Rabbit at or around 6, 6:30, when ever people can get there?

I too expect to be at work semi-late, as most days go. I'll wear the tiny button from the Gathering of the FOT, and be among the swarm of skinny short dudes.

Between a FOT and a hard place - I'm coming with a friend who's never heard WMFU or TBS. He will probably be subjected to lots of things he doesn't understand, but it will be good for him. Will try to stop by the bar beforehand. I am  skinny and look perpetually lost even when I'm not so I'll probably be easy to spot.

Clearly a banner night to miss the show, based on what everyone's saying on the twitter, but ...

We had fun! I met cutout, who it turns out I'd met at last year's meet up, and his buddy Justin, and I met SenorCorazon, and then the surprise o' the evening was Daniel, who works at the Tea company who made the Best Show Blend from last year's premium ... everybody was swell!

The Klausner was terrific, btw - the chapter she read killed ... There was a "Paper Clips" reference that made This Reporter draw attention to myself with a loud braying donkey laugh. Read the book, why don't you?

Yes, a fun time was had by most, if not all! Nice to meet you all and to see the Klaus drop the Funny Bomb along with two other great writers.

Let's all agree that EVERY week is a banner night to miss the show.

Had a blast last night seeing Julie and meeting some funny/talented FOTs, also visiting dark & rainy Green Point for the first time.

But toward the end of the night  I thought I was in the Twilight Zone -

-When I met Auntie Christina, I realized she looked familiar. Turns out we'd seen each other on the path train after the Gathering of FOTs in September.

-When I got to the bookstore, I waited for my friend Justin to arrive. I randomly flipped through a book called LowBoy because I liked the cover illustration.

-Later at the bar, they were playing the Wrens. Justin and I talked about them because our old band had toured with them in 2004 for a few weeks.

-Sitting down at the table, we spoke to another FOT (Daniel) who had worked for Absolutely Kosher - the label our old band, and the Wrens, were on. Suddenly Daniel and Justin recognized each other. They'd hung out in Philly a few years back because of the label connection.

-Then Auntie Christina mentioned the SuperEgo podcast with someone named Matt Gourley. I recognized the name - he was the best friend from high school of my best friend from college.

-When I got home, my wife forwarded me an email from her writing professor - John Wray, author of Lowboy. It was a video of him and Zach Galifinakis promoting the book

-Just when I told her that the night had had some strange coincidences, I get a text from Justin who just realized why Julie looked familiar at the reading - he'd known her in high school.

I know none of this is all that interesting, I just needed to document it for posterity. There was only a group of 4 or 5 of us, unlikely to have so many connections in a 2 hour span of time. Like a plot for the world's least interesting M Night Shymalan story, set in Green Point.

I stuck my head down the stairs for a few minutes.  So if you thought that you saw an apparition in the form of a wanna-be extra from Deadliest Catch, rest assured you did not.  Just me.

That, my friend, is what I call synchronicity.  When I hit streaks like that I assume I'm living right.

I mean the Conan one, which is "the latest to me," but not to you people who keep up with things.
