Title: Other 2010 Marathon Premiums
Post by: Bernard on February 26, 2010, 08:54:13 AM
I'm thinking of taking the dip and pledging $180.  EFD's Premium looks pretty cool, and a nice companion to "Idiot Box."

That leaves one other premium to pick up.  I'm torn between Bob W's "Le Poutine C'est Bon!", Marty McSorley's "Protect Yourself, and My Nutz!," or the Seven Second Delay disc.

I'm fairly new to the show (within the last year), so this will be my first time pledging in the March Marathon.  What other 2010 Premiums are YOU interested in?

I still haven't gotten my premium from the mini-marathon.

Now, I'm expected to pledge again?

What do these people take me for?

Email Joe McGasko, Fredericks, jmcgasko@wfmu.org.  But you probably knew that already.

I'm a big fan of Cherry Blossom Clinic, but this year I decided to mix it up with Joe McGasko's freeform 45s collection and Liz Berg's "Clap Off".  90% of all the best songs feature extensive handclaps.  It's a fact.

Yeah Grote I do know.  Apparently, it's not who you know; it's what you know.

Liz Berg's sounds awesome - I love songs with handclaps.

I also think the Sinner's Crossroads, Dusty Show, Fool's Paradise, Downtown Soulville, Surface Noise, Rock & Soul Ichiban, Dave the Spazz and Nardwuar premiums sound great (in addition to the Best Show and CBC premiums - those are a given). I'm not sure yet how much I'll be able to afford, so choosing from these may get difficult.

I'm seriously debating going all the way to $180, too. That Seven Second Delay premium sounds incredible! Who doesn't want to hear Ken and Andy's take on classic comedy routines? The more I look, the more difficult it is to pick only three.

Vol. 2 of Brian Turner's "Jams Are Heavy" (or whatever it is in Spanish).  The first one more than lived up to its name (Flower Travellin' Band, Blues Creation, etc.)

The weird thing is that I don't feel annoyed that they're asking for money again so soon.  I can't wait to get that DVD.  I am a little miffed that I pledged $100 in the min-marathon so I could get the radio bear shirt, which now I could get for my $75, but mostly I'm excited about all the cool stuff.  I do not have $180, but I sure would like to pledge it.

I'm going $180 for sure. I listen to the station every single day and I'm not hard up for money right now.

Of course I'm also having a very hard time deciding on premiums though. I didn't know about the Seven Second Delay premium until this thread so now that one is throwing my choices into even bigger disarray. I don't even listen to Sinners Crossroads and I want that premium. Every song played on the show in 2009 on a DVD? I can't pass that up.

I going for a Mouse again ($30.42/mo, I barely feel it. It helps not being someone who is interested in cable TV). The yellow t-shirt is going to my kid, and I'm going for the Brian Turner, TBS, CBC, Bob Brainen, Joe McGasko, Reggae Schoolroom, and Bill Kelly's premiums. The Liz Berg, Trouble, EFD, and Nardwuar premiums were serious contenders.

Before I bother Joe with an email, is there a way if I pledge early to take advantage of the Marathon Prize account, to have my Mouse go to The Best Show's total?

If I recall correctly, all money received from mouse pledges is earmarked to help support the station's online presence. I'm not sure why "mouse" specifically was chosen, but that's the connection (I think).

I think I've heard Ken call it the "Mouse-a-Day" or "Mouse-of-the-Day" pledge, but that doesn't help me understand it.

It's because they had a pledge level called "House of Tomorrow" back when they had to move studios.

Can I pledge during one show and get another show's premium?  I think I'd like to support Night People this time but I think the DVD+Trading Cards is a more compelling bit of swag, and I don't have enough to get both.  *I would guess so since you can order more than one premium at once and you have to select it when you pledge.

You don't have to select anything when you pledge - you get a thing in the mail a few weeks after, so you could conceivably call during Night people and then select something else when you get the form in the mail.

Yeah, I'm trying to figure out if the landscaping shirt is the 2002 because that's what I got last year. I thought I remembered picking an '05 shirt though.

Also, if you are having a hard time deciding on which premiums to get, just pledge 3k and get them all!

After some brief research, it appears the Scharpling Landscaping t-shirt was the 2004 premium, which means I have no idea what's on the 2002 shirt.
