Making Laura Cantrell say the word "douche".

Proud moments.

Making Laura Cantrell admit that she was on A Prairie Home Companion with my pledge...nah

It had to be Ted Leo's cover of Barry Dworkin and TL's song for WFMU to close the last show. Amazing

TL's song for WFMU to close the last show. Amazing

'Twas a cover of The Jam's "That's Entertainment" with a Best Show spin! You probably knew that  :)

Edit: Ah, this has been mentioned in the other Marathon thread...

Gonna have to go with TL's cover of the Dworkin classic.

I also find it hilarious when Tom tries to lure callers into pledging with the promise of being able to "talk to girls!"

Lady Volunteer: "Hi, thanks for pledging! Can I have your name?"

Basement Dweller: "Well, I usually go by DJ Hentai Supreme, but I guess the name on my card is Jeffrey."

Lady Volunteer: "Oh, ok. Well how much would you li-"

Basement Dweller: "YEAH! You should TOTALLY come see me mix sometime, I do like a EthnoTrance mashup of 911 calls and power tools, but like LIVE!"

Lady Volunteer: "hmm, that soun-"

Basement Dweller:
"You should totally check out my Xanga page, it's got ALL MY TRACKS, and they each load in a seperate pop-up window! It's like totally meta. Like a Retro-for-1998-Geocities type thing."

Lady Volunteer: "Sure, I'll che-"

Basement Dweller:
"You KNOW, you totally have a VOICE that is just BEGGING to be SAMPLED. You think maybe I could come over your place with my MacBook, and like SAMPLE you reciting some entries from this journal of this half-retarded serial rapist that I found over on 4Chan? Then we could like MIX THAT in Abelton with some stuff I recorded over at the local animal shelter. it'd be soooo meta."

Lady Volunteer:
"Um, I don't know about that. About your pledge, do you want to pay by cre-"

Basement Dweller: "well, I am ALREADY recording you, so I guess it's like we're already collaborating! That's good, because my last partner and I recently had a falling out. you can read about the whole mess on my BLOG."

Lady Volunteer: "You're recording m-"

Basement Dweller: "YEAH, I had BIG PLANS for me and DJ Doesn't Shut Her Blinds. You should see some of the footage from our last 'Session'. I'm uploading it to BitTorrent right now!"

KickTheBobo, that transcription is classic.  You hit all the points mercilessly.  There is a puddle at my feet :)

Who was this a cover of?

Are you referring to the rock and roll dreams come true song?  It was a really cool song and I can't seem to find any information about Barry Dworkin.  Am I missing a Best Show in joke?  I dunno.

I keep getting information about Dr.Barry Dworkin.  He is a popular call in radio host.

Maybe he is a closet rock star.

Or its a Meat Loaf song.

Barry Dworkin is the lead singer of the Gas Station Dogs.  Check out the full version of Rock n' Roll Dreams'll Come Through, from the theme song contest, available on bootlegs.

Family information and an artist's rendering of Barry Dworkin are both available on the fotpedia:

BTW: we have really dropped the ball on this fotpedia thing, people.

I believe there has been something wrong with it for months -- I assumed Jason was working on some kind of upgrade.  I've tried to enter a lot of placeholder entries and actual entries sans success.

I was working on something better but my skills failed me, now Rainer and Moonshake are on the team I expect things to move a bit quicker. All credit to them.
Hopefully there'll be a new streamlined Fotpedia that'll also be a database of links to the archives. You could look up Gorch for example and have an explanation of who he is and a link to every Gorch call or you could look for a specific incident, like Bill purry, and have an explanation and a link that will take you to that call.
This will of course entail a lot of work and co-operation from those FOTs that listen to the archives and will be willing to provide the links.

That'll be awesome.  Actually, I could really use a refresher on the whole bill purry thing anyway.  Hey, I don't want to let any cats out of bags, but I actually happen to be personally acquainted with The Guy With The Chip On His Shoulder About Bill Murray.  I smell a special feature article on the Fotpedia.  An extended, downloadable, 16-page interview/psychological profile in pdf format!

Yes, we need to get the FOTpedia back up and running at full speed. I can't say that I could contribute much to the writing, but I'll try and bust out a photoshop of some Newbridge landmark now and again.
