Title: Six Flags Great Adventure and the Gold Flash Pass
Post by: Poughkeepsie on March 30, 2010, 12:13:00 AM
Dear Tom,

I will be visiting the Six Flags in Jackson NJ this weekend. As I know you to be a roller coaster enthusiast, would you recommend me spending the extra money for the Gold Flash Pass, or is this a suckers purchase?

Thanks,

Poughkeepsie

Dear everyone else,

Have you been? Is it worth a 6 hour drive? Is Kingda Ka amazing? Anything I should avoid?

Thanks!

Poughkeepsie

If it's even still open, do not go on Great American Scream Machine.  You feel like you're going to die, and not in a good way.

As a child, I would frequent the Six Flags just outside of Atlanta but was too poor for the fancy gold pass and too scared to ride half the roller coasters. I remember the Batman ride was awesome and if you have one up there called The Ninja, STAY AWAY! IT'S A HEADACHE!

I actually like the Scream Machine down here - it feels like you are gonna fly out of your seat the whole time.

The biggest rip off coaster was this one called 'The Viper' which just shot you up one loop and back down it... and that was it.

I like Andy, went to the GA Six Flags frequently as a youngster. My favorites were:
The Mindbender
The Batman
The Superman
The swings

Scream machine is a classic! I say go fer it.

Ninja is horrific. A friend and I rode it and the ride knocked her about so hard it pushed her earring against her neck, puncturing her slightly and making her neck bleed for a while. Eeew.

I don't know if you have any of the same rides. I am sure you have swings though. They're the best!

Kingda Ka IS amazing. Zero to 128 mph in 3.5 seconds.

Also, sometimes the trains apparently don't make it all the way up the 450 feet and roll back down and they just shoot them off again. Extra ride!

This is terrifying.

Yeah, I just googled this ride and not one person failed to mention how rough it is. Thanks for the heads up.

Top Thrill Dragster in Cedar Point does that too. Load it up with fatties in the back and get some bonus rides straight up and right back down! Terrifyingly awesome.
