Just scored one of the two signed Superchunk singles for sale in Hawaii.
-
I got the Ted Leo 7" and a Deerhoof Apple O plus a bunch of CDs.
-
I got almost everything I really wanted- the Ted Leo and Fucked Up 7"s, the Mountain Goats DVD, a few other things.
-
I didn't see the Ted Leo but I did get the Fouled Up. Great used stuff too, Hungry Ear.
-
No rarities, but I did show my support for my local record store and bought a handful of oddities on vinyl.
-
No Superchunk or Ted Leo for the UK, so my Best Show related purchases (not just purchased due to affiliation) were limited to the F'ed Up 7" and The Mountain Goats DVD, which is awesome. First time I've been up before 7 on a Saturday since I was about 10, and it felt great, so all in all, Record Store Day is A Good Thing.
-
I was excited because one of the covers of the Fucked Up single was a picture of my local record store, but I couldn't get one because they only got like 5 copies. I was surprised they couldn't get a few extra copies or something. Bummer.
Ended up picking up Ted Leo (that "North Sea" song is a jam), the new Devo 12", and a special pressing of a single from Buffalo's own late great power pop heroes Girlpope. Also found a nice copy of Stoneage Romeos by the Hoodoo Gurus in the used bin for $3.
Verdict: Good guys win again.
-
I grabbed the Ted Leo single (had no idea this was among the exclusives, so I got a nice surprise when I saw it), Rolling Stones 7", and the Black Keys 12". Would've liked to grab those Fucked Up singles but there were several and I had a finite amount of money.
-
I picked up the Ted Leo Single, The Beach House single, the Neil Young single and Neko Case - Middle Cyclone on clear vinyl. I appreciated the three guys wearing Devo hats at the front of the line, and the record store handing out free coffee. Overall a good way to spend a Saturday morning.
-
No Ted Leo/Rx 7" in my neck of the woods, and my friend who went to a several shops couldn't find it either, but I did get The Tyranny of Distance, which is my favorite album ever, on vinyl. I also got General Public ... All The Rage and the Less Than Zero soundtrack, if only to experience the Glen (sic) Danzig & the Power and Fury Orchestra. Both were $4. I also got some CDs which were %20 off and pretty cheap to begin wit- Bratmobile Ladies, Women and Girls, One Last Wish 1986, The Smiths Peel Sessions and Strangeways, Here We Come, David Bowie s/t 60s comp, Belly King, and The Pogues Red Roses For Me.

Spent alot of time in the sun (sunburn to prove it).
What I found: fucked up 7inch, rolling stones 7inch, built to spill 7inch(daytrotter cover), John Fahey yellow princesses 12inch modest mouse moon and antarctica repress, phantom tollbooth one way conversation, pink floyd tour 87 triple vinyl, hank iv record.
best find: raconteurs bronze vinyl repress (waited in line nearly 3 hours for this one)(only 300 pressed)
-
When today instead, picked up MX-80's Crowd Control (I love living in the Bay Area) as well as the Reactors and Spider reissues. I am not ashamed that I spent $10 for "I want SEx" because that is a ripper
-
Managed to find the TL/RX, Fucked Up, Telekinesis, and Let's Wrestle/Love Language split 7".
Was hoping to also score the splits with Menomena and the Thermals/Cribs, and the autographed Chunk 7", but no such luck.
-
I got the Ted Leo and the Mountain Goats. Missed out on the Hold Steady. And I apparently missed a chance to say hi to Tom at Vintage Vinyl by leaving so early.
-
Picked up the TL/RX 7" and Mountain Goats DVD as well. Good stuff indeed!
-
I was swamped with final papers and presentations. I completely forgot about Record Store Day.
-
Yah, I was busy w/stuff and didn't have a chance to get out to a record store. Foof.
-
I only knew to go because I saw an article in a newspaper(!).
-
If you collect 7" do you actually play them? I've never bought one because I don't consider myself a collector- I just buy what I like to listen to, and playing 7" records seems like a bother. But I do know they are collectable. So, do you play them?
-
I do play my 7"s and 45s, but not picture discs except maybe once.
-
I play all of them, all the time! My vinyl collection consists of 75% singles anyway (7 and 12 inches).
(I never listen to CDs anymore, only mp3 and vinyl.)

I don't consider myself a collector at all, and I buy and play 7"s. Well, not as much with the ones where I've "come across" mp3s of the songs, but in that case they still make sense to me because I want to have paid for something.

im assuming since you mentioned Buffalo, that you're talking about Spiral Scratch...?
In which case, That Hoodoo Gurus LP is most likely the same copy i sold to SS a couple weeks ago... so, enjoy!

I went to 2 different record stores in town for Record Store Day. I have split loyalty.
I also got the Ted Leo 7", as well as his latest (hey, I'm slow to pick things up), Pisces - 'A Lovely Sight' from the Numero Group, King Tubby Meets Rockers Uptown, the re-issue of Maxinquaye, and 7 CDs of varying quality and obscurity from the $1 bin. One store had DJs doing sets thru-out the day, which they did last year also, including a set by the mayor. The mayor wasn't there this year.
I have a lot of old 7"s and vinyl in general. A lot of the 7"s are by 90s punk bands who maybe put out one or two 7" and that's it, so they're not necessarily collector's items. I also have a whole box of 7"s I bought at an auction (pop things from the 70s). I hoard these things.
As far as playing them, the turntable I possess is in horrible shape. I need to get a new one. Anyhow, support your favorite artists and record stores, etc. and so on.

Haha, you got it, Cityslang. That's funny. Buffalo: population 100.
(But seriously, if you've got a copy of the Fucked Up Spiral Scratch 7", I'll trade you a NM copy of Stoneage Romeos.)
-
As far as playing 7"s goes, I like it because it's one of the only times that I actually solely listen to music as a primary activity, because there's no time to walk away and do something else. So it's always fun for me to pick up a few 7"s and just sit in front of the stero jamming out, going through them one by one. I can see how that could be considered a bother, though.
I don't consider myself a collector. The few 7"s and LPs that I have that are actually worth decent money are the ones I'm most attached to, so I wouldn't be selling them anyway.
-
I had to travel an hour to go to a participating Record Store Day store, so I was too late to pick up any of the exclusive stuff I wanted. I did pick up a few records I had been looking for, namely Cheap Trick's first record.
As far as 45s, I buy and listen to them. I typically only pick up songs that I already know and love.
-
I love 45s. I don't know that I'd call myself a collector because I don't pay big money for stuff and have very little that's rare or valuable. I do enjoy the whole ritual from the digging through boxes of dusty 45s in the store to admiring the labels and hearing the needle hit the groove at the beginning of the side. And if the single happens to be a great song, there's nothing better than sitting and enjoying 2 or 3 minutes of perfection.
-
I showed up 2 hours early and waited on-line to be sure I got the Sub-pop 7"s, the Pavement alt-art greatest hits, and the Fela re-issue. Also grabbed copies of the Beastie Boys 'Mystery White Label 12"' and the MGMT 12" single but only because the line was buzzing about how cool these item would be. Beastie Boys is pretty good - the Beasties always work hard to remain relevant. The MGMT single, Siberian Breaks, totally surprised me. I can't stop listening to it.

Record Store Day working to increase music sales...
http://www.billboard.biz/bbbiz/content_display/industry/e3i2d2992c8dfe0a898d682a5a1ab63fd19 (http://www.billboard.biz/bbbiz/content_display/industry/e3i2d2992c8dfe0a898d682a5a1ab63fd19)
According to Street Pulse, comparing RSD 2010 to RSD 2009 showed an increase of overall sales by 135.4%
Here was their breakdown:
All Music + 135.4%
Vinyl + 376.7%
CD + 40.4%
Video - 38.6%
Merch + 28.5%
Also, and this is an interesting fact, according to Nielsen Soundscan, Record Store Day 2010 was the biggest day of sales for vinyl in Soundscan’s history. This is definitely good news for vinyl record, and turntable, manufacturers.
-
That makes sense, since at least in terms of coverage I read/heard/saw stuff about RSD all over the place in the week leading up to it this year. I can't remember how I heard about RSD in pervious years, but it sure as hell wasn't via NPR, CNN, or my local newspaper, all of which did multiple stories on it this year.
Video - 38.6%
I wish we could have Video Store Day, honestly. I love my Netflix, but it's a bummer to see every video store in my town going out of business. In the city limits of Buffalo, there are now literally almost twice as many stores that sell new vinyl as there are video-rental shops. Weird...

only in recent weeks/months have the CD re-entered my life. i've gotten too lazy to plug in the ipod when i get into the car. not to mention, it's a great excuse to ask people for mixes.
right, dfk?
-
I didn't get to a store on the actual day but as it happened i was in Princeton the next weekend to see my grammy (no I don't call her that). I went to Princeton Record Exchange & got the Ted Leo 45! I would've bought more stuff but I didn't really have a lot of $$$ and I wanted to get a bunch of used LPs (I recently bought an el cheapo turntable and need stuff to play on it)

CD's are so cheap now, I can go to the used bookstore and get 10 CD's I want for a buck a piece. Problem is I don't play them that much if at all, but I do like owning what I like. I end up just ripping them to lossless and sticking them in my music folder. I guess it makes me feel better that I paid a dollar rather than downloading the album illegally and that I have the CD even though it will just sit on my shelf. I know the artist still gets no money out of the transaction.
