Title: Weird Celebrity Collections
Post by: DouglasInDallas on April 30, 2010, 02:12:27 PM
I just got this invite emailed:

The Dallas Historical Society cordially invites you to
"A Conversation with Phil Collins" internationally-acclaimed British Rock legend to discuss his life, family, career and unparalleled collection of Alamo memorabilia.  Winner of seven Grammy Awards, his solo albums have sold more than 70 million copies. Collins is believed to own the largest private collection of Alamo artifacts in the world. Basically in semi-retirement so he can be with his young children at their home in Switzerland, Collins spends much of his time in Alamo-related projects. He is also currently co-authoring a book on the Alamo and the Texas Revolution with Gary Zaboly, to be published in early 2011.

Why the hell would Phil Collins be into collecting Alamo memorabilia?!! ???

Here's a news article that doesn't really answer your question:

http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl//6292341.html

Quote
His interest began in his youth as he saw actor Fess Parker portray Davy Crockett. The singer, whose hits include ``In the Air Tonight'' and ``One More Night,'' said he has passed on his appreciation for the Alamo lore to his five children, especially his youngest sons, ages 4 and 7.

You can't really beat the title of the article, though: "Phil Collins has groovy kind of love for Alamo Items"

I really wish to Christ I didn't know this, but Demi Moore collects dolls... the sort of creepy dolls that Marie Osmond hawks on QVC and stuff.

It occurs to me that this must be completely made up and yet I don't have the interest to try finding out.  If false, it's in his Wikipedia entry I hope.

I wonder if she ever makes Ashton Kutcher push them around in baby strollers.

Taylor Swift is an expert on the neural substrates of religious experience. And she collects human heads.

I remember seeing that too. Doesn't she have a special room for all of them?

Her essay on placebos, and how they bridge the gap between medicine and religion, is superb!
