Last night, Tom fretted that he talked about SCTV too much, but that's pretty much not possible, says me. I also had that same fight as a kid to try and stay awake to see it after SNL.

Love the backstory that Joe Flaherty's Neat Guy is a raging alcoholic.

Was Flaherty's Neat Guy also supposed to be Floyd Robertson/Count Floyd, since Floyd had his own alcohol problems? Makes it somehow even better if that was the never-acknowledged intent.
Some of my favorite parts of SCTV were those long-running character bits which don't lend themselves to clips, especially the ebb and flow of the Floyd and Earl Camembert partnership, with Earl starting out as the idiot but Floyd eventually showing up on set drunk for the news. I don't think the clip is online anywhere, but I remember loving a news segment where Earl is interviewing Candy's completely batshit insane Mayor Tommy Shanks that ends with Shanks coming down to the studio to kill him.
It was always great when characters would have various other jobs at the station or turn up in weird places in Mellonville. Stuff like how Dr. Tongue and Bruno are not only guys who churn out awful 3D movies that SCTV can afford to air, but they also live in the city and can show up to volunteer to go into space to knock out a Russian satellite.

These clips are great! I'm not all that up on SCTV. I think my age group barely missed it. I fell in love with strange comedy through Kids in the Hall.
Anything you haven't seen is new. I'm excited to see more SCTV.

It was easy to miss even when it was running - they moved it around on the schedule a lot once they brought it down to the states. Also there were music rights issues (I think this was the problem!) which prevented proper DVD releases for years ... I think there are chunks of the show's run that are still unavailable.

The Harold Ramis-era SCTV episodes have yet to be released on DVD.
RE: Music rights issues-On the SCTV DVD releases some sketches have been edited or omitted entirely because of music rights issues. For example, the Stairways to Heaven bit (see video above) was not included on the DVD's because Shout Factory couldn't get the proper clearances.

I feel like I've said this before somewhere around here, but my favourite single performance on SCTV was Lola Heatherton's song on the 'Bouncin' Back to You' special. One for the ages for sure. Unfortunately I can't find it online but it is on the first box set.
Anyway, here's the Recess Monkeys:

Ooo! I got that box set, is it easy to make a little clip for the YouTube?
I'd also like to make more Edith Prickley clips - there is not nearly enough Edith Prickley on the internet.
