Dear FOT,
I am a designer of systems with speech interfaces (e.g. dictation software, phone menus, voice search, you name it). Some of this work has graphical elements, some does not.
Anyway, a potential dream gig has come my way and I want it. Badly.
The interview process has been going well so far. But then the hiring manager asked me for a portfolio of my work. I do not have one. This happened once before on a job interview, and when I told the person I didn't have one, negotiations broke off.
Look, I'm 41. I'm from the days when a resume and references were all that was needed. Clearly, I need to wake up.
Is there anyone out there who can help me slap together a decent online portfolio in, say, 48 hours? I will pay you....just let me know the going rate. If you're local, I'll come to you. If not, I'll call. I will provide the content...you just need to make it look presentable.
Please let me know if you can help out.
Thanks,
Dr. Luddite, Stupid Guy

I sure wish I had the time to help out this weekend, but here are some suggestions:
- http://www.indexhibit.org/ You would need a website setup and a nerd to do the install but in the end you get a clean and professional looking site
- Tumblr or Wordpress - you can get a site together pretty quickly without nerd help. You can pick some preset themes and viola. It literally takes 15 minutes to get done. If you have a little more time you can host a version and get custom themes for cheap/free.
Good luck!

Out of desperation, I got a non-FOT to help me out. : )
Thank you anyway!

For future reference, there are some pretty good free WYSIWYG editors. I like KompoZer (http://www.kompozer.net/), even though the spelling is really dumb.

Thanks. Ended up using WordPress.

If you need some good themes from an FOT, there's one here in New York: http://bit.ly/ijmnU He's a good guy and hopefully won't mind me plugging his stuff.
