Title: 9 to Midnight? But I wake up at 5:30!?

Guess it makes it more convenient for Hawaiian callers.

Grats Therese!  Man, I remember how excited I was when I got my own show at a public radio station in Houston.  That was no big deal compared to this!

Is this the first time since it was extended to a three hour show that it hasn't been 8-11?

I hope he goes in and overdubs it with a ridiculously obvious edit. "It's Tuesday night -- fzzt-- 'NINE' -- fzzt-- o'clock, yeah".

You know, I've heard about the Firesign Theater for decades, pretty much, but I've never listened. I know they have like big-time nerd-fans though.

I've heard about the Firesign Theater

Auntie, all I can say is Don't Crush That Dwarf Hand Me The Pliers.

And that I mentioned them in my iTunes review of the Best Show.

The canonical Firesigns were, along with SCTV and Monty Python, about as magisterial as comedy gets.  Whether this new hour (ephemera from the olden days? new stuff?) measures up remains to be seen.

Did I miss a reference to Firesign Theatre?  Shame on me.

AC, you should listen to Firesign Theatre.  My first exposure was Waiting for the Electrician or Someone Like Him, which I adore, but I have an especial fondness for How Can You Be in Two Places at Once When You're Not Anywhere At All? (when I first registered on the FOT board, my sig was "He's no fun; he fell right over").  Really, though, who am I kidding?  I love just about everything they did.

Which reminds me:  Frederics, what did you think of Give Me Immortality or Give Me Death?

P.S.  Nine to twelve is going to be hard.  I, too, tend to rise around 5 (4, today) and usually am flagging by nine p.m.  Unlike DfK, however, I can sleep in if I want to.

I am with Sarah on "...Two Places at Once..." Multi-layered, complex wordplay cut in with non-sequitars and groaners. It bears a good dozen listenings, and that's something I can't say about most comedy recordings. Shoes for industry!

Did I miss a reference to Firesign Theatre?  Shame on me.

The new schedule includes a "Firesign Theater Radio Hour" from 7 to 8 on Tuesdays:

Dear Dr. Whiplash… Legendary comedy group The Firesign Theatre returns to the air as WFMU presents 16 restored & remastered episodes of their notorious Los Angeles radio series The Firesign Theatre Radio Hour Hour, Dear Friends, and Let’s Eat.

So it is old stuff.  And presumably just for the summer, since there are only 16 episodes.

I felt it was quite good solid 4 stars.  Right up there with I Think We're All Bozos On This Bus  (Hey, Folksnake+)

I used the Bozo line in one of my early posts.

I even got "Bride of Firesign"  ties up a lot of loose ends from the various records.  First track is too toilety for me so I skipped it when I downloaded it from emusic.

Live it or live with it!

This new time is great news for me.  I am usually reading to my kids for their bedtime between 8 and 9.  I occasionally try to listen to the show at the same time, but my kids call me on it.

"Daddy, why do you keep stopping between sentences? It's Tom, isn't it?"

This is good news for this west coaster.  Instead of struggling to get bandwidth on a crowded bus at 5pm through the hills, I now will usually get home by 6, start up the computer, launch the wfmu stream in High Quality, and tadah, Best Show starts.

I don't know this one.  There's a ton I've never heard.  I'm most familiar with the commercial releases up to Dear Friends, great swaths of which I used to be able to recite from memory, and downloaded a bunch of newer stuff a few years ago, some of which I haven't even listened to yet.  Beyond that, I'm a disgrace.

I'm just not all that good at being fan.  Too lazy.

Now, how about those Duck's Breath Mystery Theater tapes you promised, Sarah?

I need a fix from Dr. Science (he's not a real doctor).

(thx for the suggestions though - I will try and catch up with this whole thing!)

9-12 will be a tad tougher than me, although that later start also means (hopefully) fewer baby interruptions.

As big of a comedy nerd as I am, shamefully I have never heard any Firesign Theatre. I guess this is my big chance to start.

Dave was not joking about 12 listens.   You can do them in a row.

Phone calls from one album are answered on another one.

Hitler won World War II.

It's deep.

This time change means that for me the live show will happen between 2am and 5am rather than 1am and 4am.

As I get up at 6:30, this means I'll still have to stick with the podcast. Sigh.

So you're disappointed that the show wasn't pushed back 6 hours?

I am also in your time zone, but I can actually sometimes listen to the whole show. 5am is really pushing it though.

Not that anyone would or should care, I am gunna have to switch back to listening Wednesday at work. I often make the comment "Why don't bands consider the working man?!" I said the same thing when I found out about this time change. Just kidding of course. This summer I will have to hear my weekly "Helloooooooooooooo Tom" at 7 a.m.

as a weekly podcast/archive listener, this has no affect on me directly.  however, as someone who enjoyes dfk's calls, this could be a possible bummer summer.

I'm really excited. For the last month, I haven't been able to tune in live because I get off of work at 10:30 PM. So now, I can at least catch most of the second half of the show, and then pick up what I missed on the podcast.
