Title: Milwaukee festivals are ridiculously bad!
Post by: dania on June 28, 2010, 11:42:15 PM
It was 7 years ago when Harley Davidson had their 95th anniversary party here in Milwaukee.  The lineup included such greats as [insert cheesy announcer voice:]The Rolling Stones and even The Doobie Brothers to name a few.

... but the talk of the town was this: Who is the secret special guest on the final night of Harley fest?

Please read on: http://www.onmilwaukee.com/music/articles/elton.html

On a sidenote, the lineup at Summerfest mostly stinks!  (except for Devo and a handful of my friends' bands)  I want so badly to hear Tom make fun of Summerfest!

That's so cool that you're friends with The Offspring!

When I was younger, my parents would always take me up to Summerfest. l remember going on the ski lift across the whole thing and then us having to leave when all the drunks would show up.

Summerfest tends to book middle-of-the-road acts, or time-tested favorites, but a few good bands manage to slip through. Also, there's so many ways to get in for free or cheap, so you can see The Roots, Public Enemy, Modest Mouse, or Weird Al for a fraction of what normal tickets would cost.

I lived on Prospect and Brady during Harley Davidson's 100th Anniversary extravaganza. I remember going out on the apartment's sun deck to watch Elton John and thinking it wasn't any worse than the rest of the celebration (not exactly a resounding endorsement); THEN I turned on the news and heard everyone complaining and saying they wanted The Eagles. I was just glad when it was over, though; people were parking their bikes anywhere they wanted to and it got to be a bit too much.

I have bikers revving their loud-pipe-having schmuck machines on the corner outside my apartment all the time, so maybe I should get some loudspeakers propped in my window that play nothing but Madman Across the Water.

I'm kind of geared up for the upcoming film fest at the Oriental.
