So did any of you east coast jerks go see this FREE show on July 1st at the Knitting Factory? How was it? If you didn't go, what the hell is wrong with you????

Here's what makes me mad - good stuff only rarely comes to Columbus, so the day that a family reunion is scheduled three hours away (that would be today), here's what's happening:
July 9 - Patton Oswalt/Kyle Kinane in Cleveland (this was last night, but the family reunion made it impossible to attend)
July 10:
1. Parking Lot Blowout show (free outdoor show featuring reunion sets by Scrawl, New Bomb Turks, and the freaking Gibson Brothers)
2. Ted Leo and the Pharmacists
3. Oblivians/Bassholes/Cheater Slicks
It got to the point where, over the course of the last few months, I'd hear about something awesome happening in town and I'd ask, "I'll bet that's happening the weekend of July 10, isn't it?" I was never wrong.
Ugh.

Third show line up is so great it's making me sick to my stomach. Divorce your family.

It's my wife's family, not mine. Skipping it would've been very bad. Don't think I didn't strongly consider it.

I ended up getting back early enough to attend one of the evening shows. I choose Ted Leo because I'd never seen him whereas I saw the Oblivians back when they were active and I've seen Cheater Slicks and Bassholes a bunch of times (there are advantages to living in Columbus, I guess). I think I made the right choice. It was a great show.

I thought the dude from the bassholes stabbed himself in the head with a screwdriver. who am i thinking of?
So, am I to believe that nobody on this board went to the free oblivians show in NY? shameful.

The liner notes to Don Howland's solo album claim he committed suicide by stabbing himself with a screwdriver, but it's not the truth. In fact, Howland himself wrote the liner notes under an assumed name. He's kind of a weird dude.

Is Ethier still doing solo albums? I had a dream I was at a Deadly Snakes reunion the other night.

Yeah, he released one pretty recently - 2009, I think? - called "Born of Blue Fog." He's also gaining prominence as a visual artist.

Yea, I love his first solo album, like the second one a lot, and was completely underwhelmed by Blue Fog. Just got the Quest For Fire record, which is a stoner rock Deadly Snakes spinoff. I'll get back to you on that one.

I am also not crazy about "...Blue Fog".
