Since I want to make the most out of actually snagging tickets to the "Matador At 21" festival I'd like to get some recommendations of material to check out from bands on the bill that I haven't heard.
Those being: The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Come, Guitar Wolf, Girls, Harlem, Cold Cave, Shearwater and Jeffrey Joe Jensen.
Any specific albums I should check out from that list?

Come: 11:11, Don't Ask, Don't Tell, Near-Life Experience
-
For Guitar Wolf, "Jet Generation" and "Planet of the Wolves."
-
Shearwater - Rooks and Palo Santo.
and they sound nothing like Okkervil River, thank god

Jon Spencer Blues Explosion - Orange is a pretty good album. The song "Dissect" is a nice rocker that gets better and better as it goes. And I love the closing instrumental.

Girls only have one album, called Album. It's pretty good.

Jon Spencer Blues Explosion are fantastic live. I wouldn't miss that one. I, too like that Girls album. It has grown on me more and more since it came out. I have not seen Guitar Wolf but I wouldn't miss that either. Furious rock n' roll.
Speaking of furious, I am FURIOUS that everyone of my friends just shrugged their shoulder when I tried to get any of them to go. I even offered to pay for the hotel. I am STILL in the flesh about it.

I KNEW having no friends would come in handy someday!

Don't listen to a Guitar Wolf album in order to decide if you should see them. Just see them. It's a whole different ball of wax live. It's an experience.

Shearwater - Rooks and Palo Santo.
I agree with these recommendations but as much as I like these albums, I don't think either of them compares to/prepares you for how awesome Shearwater are live. My recommendation would be "don't miss them."

Yeah, I love them and haven't been able to see them live yet. I can imagine how beautiful their music would be live...

Harlem-Hippies is a great album.
I saw Guitar Wolf 4-5 years ago, they are so much fun. They are the stars of the movie Wild Zero. It is a great watch, DVD comes with it's own drinking game.
