The Boss wrote this song for the Ramones. His manager talked him out it of giving it to them.

what weird vocal effect is he using on his voice? it sounds like something from "Crimson and Clover"

I think it basically would have sounded like 'Needles and Pins' or something off 'End of the Century'.  But yeah, I would have loved to have heard their version.

I couldn't get through that Minnie Driver version.  The Jesse Malin version was okay, though.
