What a fantastic line-up. And Liz Phair will be there too!

Dave would you believe I have never listened to Liz Phair? I've heard plenty about Exile From Guyville of course but is there anything else I should listen to before seeing her?
-
Wow! that's going to be excellent. I was already sorry I couldn't go ...
-
GOD. FUCKING. DAMNIT.
I hate all my friends right now for being wishy-washy on this event when I told them about it. I was even offering to pay for most of it.
<breathe>
All right. I'm over it.

My special lady-friend and I spent the entire evening last night investigating redeeming all of our membership rewards points and miles to make the trip. I will know for sure Monday, but I suspect we are going to be in attendance. The '94 GBV lineup happens how many times in one's life?
We have also had nuptials pending for increasingly extended time and are about at the end of our ropes dealing with "so what's the date, are you ever getting married" questions. A Vegas weekend might be the perfect f-you to all the ol' bittys in the family.

I was just joking, suggesting she wasn't awesome, but it was all for play, I got nothing against her and love Exile.
-
Just as exciting, The Clean was added to the lineup also. It promises to be a very memorable weekend.

Whip-Smart, whitechocolateeggspace, and Liz Phair. Yes, the self-titled album that Pitchfork gave a 0.0. It's an enjoyable, pop-metal-ish record that made morons like Jim DeRogatis mad, so that's pretty close to perfection for me.
-
Can't wait... I'll be turning 30 with GBV on stage... hopefully playing lots of Toby songs.
-
I'm really bummed. I should have bought tix. I mean, I have no classes on Friday and only one class on Monday, and I don't have to start worrying about final papers and projects and presentations until at least mid-October (although let's be honest, it's more like November. God bless 5-Hour energy shots. If only they could make that shit taste better). And I plan on freaking out about my master's thesis during Christmas vacation.
:'( :'( :'(

I admit to returning to that self-titled album every now and then. It's like 50% quality, old Liz and 50% what the hell was she thinking.
But yes, the first three albums are canon. The mixed tapes she sent around Chicago before Exile was released are okay as well.

I looked at the photos of the venue. Looks like some standing room, and a lot of sitting room. Has anyone been there? I hope you don't have to have VIP tickets to get onto the floor. I plan on going crazy to GBV.

I haven't been to the venue either, but from what I've been reading on the Matador blog posts, it seems the first few seated rows are reserved for VIP and the floor is first come, first serve GA for all ticketholders.
Less then 3 weeks away...getting psyched for this!

This is 1 week away! The (final?) set times are up now:
http://www.matadorrecords.com/matablog/2010/09/23/revised-scheduled-matador-at-21-the-lost-weekend-in-las-vegas-the-palms/ (http://www.matadorrecords.com/matablog/2010/09/23/revised-scheduled-matador-at-21-the-lost-weekend-in-las-vegas-the-palms/)
Tthe 20 minute Liz Phair set leading directly into YLT looks like a mistake to me, but overall I like it. And I'm glad the karaoke afterparty got moved to saturday so it no longer conflicts with F'ed Up v Ted Leo on friday.
How early are people getting into Vegas? I talked with Kid Pain in the other thread about a FOT meet-up, possibly at the bowling alley at the Gold Coast across the street sometime saturday day (or maybe friday before the shows start if no one wants to miss any of the early sat matinee shows). If anyone else wants to meet up, whether bowling or wherever, let me know and I'll send you my contact #.

yes, please send me your contact info!

The whole shebang is going to be streaming this weekend!

I'm damn excited. I couldn't make it to Vegas - but I'll be digging these streams, getting pumped for GBV at Terminal 5! The GBV tour kicks off tonight.
-
I will be in Vegas in less that 24 hours!

This has some good info for anyone going, read the comments, there are more helpful things there. This is going to be great!

I've been commenting in the Matador blog threads. It looks like people are meeting up at the Gold Coast bowling alley Saturday around noon. I’ll most likely be wearing a WFMU or Newbridge is For Lovers shirt the whole weekend. If you see me, say hi.

Well, looks like there's going to be a bunch of streaming stuff. Good news for the rest of us.

The quality has been pretty good so far.
-
So Scharpling does a cover Superchunk Precision Auto with F'd Up. I hate the word epic, nut I think it applies.
-
So MySpace is rerunning last night's stream, but it looks like if you leave the page and then come back the whole thing starts over again from the beginning. I hope I'll be able to get footage of this illegally later.

What a joy to behold!
He's apparently going through a pick people up phase.
-
Haha, fantastic. Omar you are almost wizardly with your ability to conjur information, and it is in that vein that I ask of Wurster's "We Bite" with Teddy Rockstar and the RX?
Tom Reagan 84'd em. Great!
-
Is the stream no longer working for anyone else? It was fine last night, but right now it just keeps working for a few seconds then pausing again.

Haven't tried it today but I had better luck watching through Pitchfork last night.

Yeah, me too. The interludes between bands are playing fine now, so who knows.

I caught a glimpse of Bishop Pablo Fontana.

When are Jon and Tom going to appear? I thought they'd introduce Ted Leo for sure.

I don't think they're showing their bits. Not intentionally, anyway. NOT HAPPY ABOUT THAT, MATADOR. You could even say, I'm MADador.

Oh, hey! Scharpling just took the stage with a representative from Shovelmedia.com

What a great time. I am so bummed to be home. I know a lot of people were upset before hand with having to stay at The Palms, but it made the experience so much more fun. I saw both Mark Ibold and Tobin Sprout at the food court coffee shop the morning after they played. I saw Tom at the pool on Saturday and got to see his big sunglasses in person. I stood behind Rob Corddry in line to get into the pool. Getting to talk to all the people at the pool, or in the elevators and just having the place infested with indie kids was awesome. My only mistake was getting into the karaoke after party and stepping out for a minute and not being able to get back in. Did anyone have any real complaints about the weekend?

Clearly revenge for this total hatchet job (http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/10276-the-art-of-the-slap/).
-
Well I'm finally back and I had a blast.
I very briefly introduced myself to Tom in the food court and most likely stammered like an idiot. He couldn't talk much because his voice was hurting from Fridays late night show but he was extremely cordial. I'm not usually into stopping anyone but when I saw him I couldn't help myself. I was kicking myself for not having worn my Best Show t-shirt that morning though. I had it in my hands and everything!
As for the shows there was just so many good ones. Yo La Tengo were a personal favorite mainly because the setlist was so inspired and perfect. They played all the songs I wanted them to play and all the great songs I never would have expected them to play.
One fun moment was wandering into and being embarrassingly under-dressed in the schwanky N9ne restaurant until mercifully Scott Kannberg walked in looking just as grubby as we did. Hopefully the other patrons assumed we must have also been in a band.
All in all I thought the whole festival had a great atmosphere despite the greasy place it was held in. Being able to stand next to a member of your favorite band while you watch The Clean in a Las Vegas ballroom is a pretty unique experience and one I'm not going to forget anytime soon.
