Hi all;
I'm thinking about a winter trip to Toronto, and knowing there are a lot of Torontoians on the board, I was wondering where people would suggest for a not-too expensive, decent place to stay in the city with easy subway access.
Thanks!

I'm staying at the Grange Hotel in Chinatown when I head up for the PFT show. It's in walking distance from the "hip" shopping area on Queen St. The train is also a few blocks up. It was $80/night. Not too bad for being in the city. They also have a private parking lot, which was a plus in my world.

I can't attest to the atmosphere at the Grange, but it's certainly in a good location. I've stayed at the Travelodge on King St. W., also a pretty good location. It's cheap (~$120/night), and has parking, but doesn't have much charm.
The "hip" boutique-y hotels that would be the standard recommendations are the Drake and the Gladstone, but they are both a little too pricey for me - more in the $200+ range.

Thank you both for the suggestions. The Grange sounds like a great fit. Additionally, Jason, glad to see an upstate FOT--I'm in Rochester. Are you going to the Deerhoof show at Mohawk Place next Friday?

That Travelodge is gone now, I work just down the street from there.
The Grange sounds like a good deal.
The Gladstone is cool and in a fun area. http://www.gladstonehotel.com/hotel (http://www.gladstonehotel.com/hotel)
Its more expensive however.
Have fun.

I probably won't be at the Deerhoof show. I do love Mohawk Place though. Best venue in Buffalo.
Also if you have the extra money, the Drake hotel is pretty great.

Whenever friends of mine from Boston & NYC come up to visit, they always stay at the Grange. Bryan is right, it's not the greatest atmosphere, but it's a pretty great price for the location. My friends, also, have never had any complaints.
