Secret Santa is back.
I'm taking the reins on this from Auntie Christina, who so generously volunteered to organize it last year. Thank you, AC!
This time around the signing-up is an automated web-form. Please go here (https://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform?hl=en&pli=1&formkey=dGVKY2N1cnZaemNwX25ERXdLRm92U2c6MQ#gid=0) to sign-up.
Guidelines:
1) Sign up by November 30. You will be notified of your Santee later that week, but no later than December 3.
2) Please try to get your item out by December 20. Here are links to the US Postal Service's Holiday Shipping Deadlines (http://www.usps.com/holiday/shippingcalendar.htm?from=home_ftpromo&page=Holiday2010SeeShippingDeadlines) and the Canada Post's Holiday Suggested Mailing Dates (http://www.canadapost.ca/cpo/mc/personal/holiday/default.jsf).
3) Have fun.
Any questions? PM JustSheaNo or DM @justsheano on Twitter.

I just signed up! I get a present this time!
Oh, and I get to buy one too! That's what counts, right?
-
I'm all up in them guts again this year!
-
I think I signed up.
-
I think I signed up.
Indeed you did!
-
Can I just get a spreadsheet with everyone's address? Actually, I really only need the ladies addresses.
Thanks!
-
And why aren't you collecting cell phone numbers?
-
I'm in!
-
Is this like a heavy duty FOT thing? I'm more like a second-tier FOT who isn't really known by any of you, but I know all of you because I listen to the show and read the boards. But this sounds fun. I just don't want to jump in the club and have everybody be like, "Who the Hell is this guy?"
-
The gift exchange is lots of fun for those who want to participate.
The more the merrier. Literally.
-
There are no levels of FOT! Please join, just promise to follow through.

K, I'm in.
-
I signed up. So how do we ultimately know whose name we got? I don't remember typing in my email address. Maybe we get a PM here?
-
I am in.

No one knows who I am - I'm barely on this board - but I've given and received fantastic gifts the past few years.
This is the only Secret Santa I've ever done & will probably ever do.

There ain't no levels.

Ditto for me, plus most of the music/film references on the forum go over my boring head. But I like fun and am passionate about the United States Postal Service ... so I'm in!
My Santee can expect to receive sunscreen & a pocket card about suspicious skin lesions. Fear not: you will receive other marvelous wonders/treats. But a gift from Jen B. is not complete until it includes education about & protection against cutaneous malignancy. My super-pale family members thank me, and so will you, Santee! Probably! Merry Happy.
-
I signed up! Last year I sent my Secret Santee (elf? idk the terminology!) a book, an Extraordinary Chickens calendar, and a Mr. T in Your Pocket keychain.

Good point.
If you already signed up, please PM me with an email address.
I will edit the form.

I just jumped in. Can't wait to find out who my Santee is.

i've signed up. and i say it every year, i look forward to the FOT secret santa more than gifts from my family.
i have no shame in admitting there are some time when FOT > blood.
-
I'm signed up. I always tell myself I won't, but I always do. I've always gotten awesome stuff from participating - last year I got some great DVDs and in a previous year I got a Newbridge-themed t-shirt that I still wear regularly. I can't remember exactly what I sent to the folks whose names I drew, but I remember thinking I did a pretty good job.
-
I'm in.
One year I sent Laurie an AngelMouse
(http://mouseangel.com/image/frame.jpg)
So, pray that I'm your secret santa

This sounds like fun, I'm gonna ignore the secret santa at work to do this.

This is true. Also, change "some" to "most of the".

I didn't fill out the credit card portion of the application (I didn't understand the need.) Am I still in?
-
I don't know any of you guys and yet I can't wait to send one of you cuties a present.
This is great, thanks!
-
Signed up! This was so much fun last year, I had to do it again.

Sign up is now closed!
Look for an email or PM from the Elves.
Best regards, JSN
-
The Elves have sent out their assignments. If you didn't get one or if there's a problem (like the Elves goofed and sent you two names), email/PM me.
Thanks,
JSN

I already got my gift! Disgusting Bliss: The Brass Eye of Chris Morris, and The Best of... What's Left of... Not Only... But Also...
Thanks so much yesno! It's awesome!

Dang. yesno is on it!
-
Dang, people are already sending gifts. I'd better get on this. Good thing I'm shopping Saturday.
-
I am terrified that my Santee won't like it. Must pull trigger
-
I am terrified that my Santee won't like it. Must pull trigger
Be not afraid! The only bad gift is when someone backs out of the commitment.
-
There are probably 6 or 7 things I really don't want in this world. Really looking forward to receiving, though. Good luck!
-
Holy moly. I have officially been shamed*. I got a HUGE box from my Secret Santa today.
Here's what I got:
1. 2 chocolate bars (made by Balducci, a name I'm not familiar with, but it appears pretty fancy)
2. FOT sticker
3. 2 Best Show buttons & 1 WFMU button
4. Yo La Tengo "Good Guy" cloth bag with velcro top
5. Yo La Tengo t-shirt (image on the front looks like a wood carving)
6. WFMU "Where Dead Air Lives" t-shirt
7. WFMU Airwave Idols trading cards
8. WFMU's Celluloid Babylon DVD
9. WFMU Upsapalooza 2CD set
10. Simpsons Itchy & Scratchy candle
11. glitter sunglasses
12. a pair of socks with a martini glass on them
13. Michael Ochs 1,000 Record Covers book
14. personalized snowman Christmas ornament
As if this wasn't enough, each item was individually wrapped! And it came with a nice note wishing me a happy holiday season and that I never be GOMP'd. I don't really celebrate Christmas with my family anymore, so opening each of these items was like catching up on a bunch of Christmases at once.
The sender did not identify him/herself in the package, so whatever amazing person in Maplewood put this together, thank you thank you thank you. The gift I'm getting ready to send out will seem very paltry by comparison.
* - Just to clarify, shamed in a good way. Shamed as in "I will not be able to even come close to equaling this with what I'll be sending to my recipient."
-
There are probably 6 or 7 things I really don't want in this world. Really looking forward to receiving, though. Good luck!
You just may get them.
-

I guess Christmas is all about risk. Like a game.
-
Yikes! I better get mine out soon! Thanks to a wonderful surprise from Pastor Josh, my wife and I dined on delicious homemade chocolate chip cookies and Chex Mix this weekend. Also included was a DVD of the Opus & Bill holiday special "A Wish For Wings That Work", which I vaguely remember from it's original airing in the mid (early?)-90s. We'll probably fire it up during our annual Xmas Day Television-athon.
Thanks again, Josh!!!
-
I'm glad you like it. The Opus and Bill special seems universally panned, including by Mr. Brethed, but my wife and I just watched it and thought it was great and true to the spirit of the comic. Even Robin Williams is funny in it. I hope you like it.
-
I sent my gift out today, feeling all good about myself. Then I saw this thread, and saw masterofsparks's gift. Now I feel like a scrooge myself. At least there's still time to, uh, finish off sending the remaining gifts. yeah THAT's it!
-

Thanks for staring commitment in the face and saying YES! I CHOOSE YOU!
Hermie and all the misfit toys would be proud.
-
I am behind, but here, lurking in the shadows (in a mysterious way, not a creepy way). Santee, worry not, your stuff will make it to you before the holidays... I hope. Anyway, stoked for whatever comes my way this year.
-
I am getting mine together.....hope he likes Susan Boyle!!! FOT I'm gonna love you til you're 98 degrees.
-
I got my FOT gift from Jen today, it was great! I'll post a picture once my camera batteries finish charging. Hopefully my Santee gets their gift soon.
This is so much fun, I hope everyone else is having a good time with it.
-
I am sending mine out this weekend! Sorry it couldn't be sooner -it's hard to shop for the perfect gift when one works 60+ hours a week! Sheesh! Hopefully it gets there by the xmas, but if not, please enjoy a sweet after xmas present, Santee!
-
Godspeed little package!
-
Secret Santa present has been purchased and should be there by the 23rd! Yay!
-
Presents wrapped! Sending them off today, via priority or first class mail.
Spoiler alert:
I'm using a book rate.
-
I'm having trouble picking a gift for my secret santee. Based on my research I'll be OK with anything that features TV shows or very liberal politics.
-
Funny, I didn't sign up this year.
-
Gifts went out to my Secret Santee today. Supposed to arrive by the 22nd. Fingers are crossed that all arrives safely and brings some Xmas cheer.
-
I sent mine out early last week. It probably should've arrived around Thursday but I haven't heard anything yet. I hope it gets there OK.
Still no idea who sent me that whopping box of treasure. Whoever you are, thank you again.
-
Sent mine out today. I was told it should arrive before xmas. Phew! Made it just in time!
-
What happens if it doesn't? Do you get drummed out of the FOT?
-
Hope my Secret Santee understands Christmas is more about giving than receiving. For him, I mean.
-
mine arrived at target destination...i wonder if he is waiting until Christmas to open it.
-
Pierre, I just logged on to thank you. I love it. I think it's going in my office. As soon as I figure out how to post a picture of it, I will. It is one of the best things ever. Thank you!
-
I'm getting worried about the status of mine...I sent it xpresspost but after doing that I remembered that the last time I sent something that way the package got there a week and a half late. If you're still waiting on your gift there's a possibility that you're my secret santee, in which case you should take comfort in the knowledge that if it doesn't get to you on time I am going to punch a Canada Post employee in the face.
-
I got mine in the mail yesterday, and if it weren't this time of year I think it'd make it by Sat. I don't know if it will however.
When I was in line, which was long but there were many post office workers steadily working, some guy came in and started stomping around muttering under his breath 'this is bullshit'. Was it May 3rd or something in his head? Good grief, this is a post office in midtown M'han on Dec 21st for crying out loud. Those guys kept the line moving pretty well. I waited maybe 15 min. Not bad, I thought.
-
I just want to take a minute to thank everybody who signed up for participating.
Reminder: if you haven't had a chance to send out your materials, or if you are experiencing an unfortunate delay, please drop a line. Either me or one of my elves (also me) will connect with your Santee and let them know there's a delay.
Please also note that if for some reason you signed up and now you can not or will not be able to participate, let me know so we can come up with a solution.
-
Just picked up a final item I wasn't able to get earlier in the week. Should ship tomorrow and hopefully be in my Santee's loving arms by Friday.
Merry Christmas!
-
Been crazy super dumb-dumb busy lately, but I wanted to thank my secret sonta for my awesome haul. Pat from Lansing sent me The Billy Letters, a Spartans shirt (natch) and some delicious popped-corn. Thanks!

Wow. I feel better reading that others were just able to mail their parcels. My Santee should get theirs early next week. Sucks, though, as there's a sort of Christmas portion of one of the gifts ... Ah well ... Beyond my control this time ... Sort of ... [(fake) tears up] I just wanted ever-thang to be special ...
[sigh] Every year I try to be early & every year I get more behind ...
-
Oh man, I was so excited to see a mysterious black package on top of my mailbox yesterday. Mizz Fair, you rule! As I screamed after opening it in my car in a retail parking lot, I swear a passing shopper gave me a weirdly empathetic "I'm right there with you" shrug, thinking I was having a holiday meltdown. There was a card, a satchel of lavender, and an origami chain that currently adorns my Charlie Brown tree.
Then ... there was the "piece of resistance." http://www.twitpic.com/3iorly (http://www.twitpic.com/3iorly)
Spectacular. Thank you! And merry happy, everyFOT.
UPDATE: I just realized this shirt is able to be driven like a motorcycle. Fellow holiday travelers tonight beware: any collateral damage will be ruled Death By Science.
-
That is awesome.
-
Wow, cool shirt! I wonder if anyone's registered that email...
Anyhoodle, I got my gifts a couple of days ago! I received a very sweet note, a cool mug from Reckless Records, an of Montreal cassette (which includes mp3/FLAC downloads!), and a Todd Barry CD... which was autographed just for me! Thanks, Santa JimmyNoodles!
PS: I hope my little elf got her presents...
-
i sent my santee their gift yesterday; i hope nothing arrives broken or cracked.
on another note, i received my gift from my secret santa a couple weeks ago, more or less. i know i mentioned it on twitter, but many, many thanks to BeTheBoy, slackmistress, and Daisy J Dog for the Amy Sedaris craft book, the Goner gift certificate, and the wonderful card.
my roommate is very jealous...as he should be.
xo, FOT
-
I just put mine on Santa's sleigh. The jolly old elf assured me it would be at my Santee's door sometime tomorrow.
-
I sent mine on the 18th -- UPS store employee says it will arrive on the 27th or 28th which seems like a pretty long time but whatever, holidays make everything crazy.
I was told by my housemate that my present arrived in the mail a few days ago. Thanks!
-
Gifts went out to my Secret Santee today. Supposed to arrive by the 22nd. Fingers are crossed that all arrives safely and brings some Xmas cheer.
It made it today! One day late according to the USPS, but one day early for my birthday, so it works.
Pictures later.

ha! fudge is a great idea for a FOT gift.

YUP.
-
I hope my Secret Santee's gifts didn't get stuck in a snow drift or something! I sent the box out a full week ago. It was supposed to get there on the 22nd!
-
Got mine today!
- A sweet-ass comic book. Holy bitchin' hell!
- A Best Show comp on CD, to be listened to tomorrow after I get home from family torture Christmas
- delicious-seeming recipes. Guacamole & biscuits. Yes.
- uh, a 'Girl, Interrupted' sealed DVD I'm sure to bust out when I'm bored, hammered & have nothing else to watch.
PERFECT!!!!
Thanks to a "Pete" person!
Super-duper rad & reassurance as to why I do this every year ...
-
UPS and FedEx sometimes just take packages right to my apartment's front office without leaving any kind of note at my place, so if you sent me something and it appears to have been signed for by a name like "Rosa," you should probably find a way for me to be notified of this. Or, if I said to ship it to my office, which I may have done for just that reason, the problem there is that we all "work from home" next week.
-
ha! fudge is a great idea for a FOT gift.
YUP.
Perhaps next year someone can coordinate The Great FOT Fudge Swap. Or not.
-
According to Fed Ex, my package was delivered yesterday (with no signature, though.) Hopefully my Santee got it.
-
Mine is still somewhere in limbo..... :(
-
I received mine yesterday but I don't know who it's from. All I have is a real name! Thanks for the cookies and book to help me beat DFK in the NBA thread.
-
No word from my Santee! Oh dear! :'(
-
I still haven't heard anything from my Santa either. I can't remember exactly when I sent the package, but I think it was almost 3 weeks ago. I hope it isn't lost.
-
I haven't heard anything from my Santee either, but I'm sure a lot of the folks in Secret Santa FOT 2010 may not regularly check this forum, much less post or maybe WANT to post, so I wouldn't worry about it if you sent your gift.
Anything I get whenever I get it is a bonus on top of that.
-
Big thanks to my Seattle Secret Santa for the Peep Show DVD! I've only seen a handful of episodes on BBC America, but loved them. Believe I'll watch it now...
-
Hoorah! I got my stuff today! Thank you IAmBaronVonTito for the awesome Garage and Frat Bands in Memphis Compilations, Goner Records bumper sticker and Husker Du book discussed on last weeks show!
-
Mine is still somewhere in limbo..... :(
Got it today badgrammar!
Having a lot of fun going through it all. Super cool. The handwritten card was amazing on its own!
-
An interesting and welcome development. My Secret Santa got another FOT to write me a FB message saying not to worry and that my present was on its way. I'm super happy to hear that but the courier would not divulge any other information and now I'm just happy my Secret Santa takes pride in a job well done. I commend you.

The pleasure is all mine! This has truly been a fun experience participating in the FOT exchange this year. I'm super happy you enjoyed everything, especially the fudge.
FOTs are THE BEST OF THE BEST.
-
A big thank you to JustNicole for the sweet presents that arrived on my doorstep Dec 23. Lots of SD Padres gear, including an Xmas ornament, notebook, tote bag and baby bottle. Nicole did her research of my twitter feed, I believe, and did it well.
Thanks again for affirming my belief that FOTs are the nicest, bestest people around.
-
Mine is in route to santee and I received an awesome jigsaw puzzle from my santor! Let the real Christmas begin.
-
If my Santa is wondering, I haven't seen mail in the past two days due to this storm - any of us East Coasters are probably going to have a big delay in getting packages. I will definitely shout it from the rooftops when it gets here, believe you me.
-
I haven't heard anything from my Santee either, but I'm sure a lot of the folks in Secret Santa FOT 2010 may not regularly check this forum, much less post or maybe WANT to post, so I wouldn't worry about it if you sent your gift.
Nah - not to be a flaming asshole or nothin' but when your present gets to you, you should definitely get in touch with your giver either here, thru DM or ask JustSheaNo for their email address.
Not only is shipping crazy this time of year, but this blizzard has thrown things off track for days now and will continue to do so. Don't leave your Santa wondering if their present to you got plucked off your doorstep or buried in snow.
-

I'm so, so glad you liked it! I definitely scoped the twitter feed, fo sho. And you mentioned your little one either over there or on the board here so, I had to pass on the Padres love.
Thank YOU for the sweet words and also for being really funny. Gyaneshwar wrote in his special instructions that if Djurnon was his Secret Santa, no homemade mayonnaise was to be sent.

I just received an incredible package from AmIRight, including a radio station promotional T, a copy of Mike Birbiglia's sleep-walking book, a flash drive disguised as a bullet (or lipstick, I'm not sure) and a couple of discs.
I am embarassed to say that I have not yet put my package in the mail, owing to a terrible combination of the flu, followed by a snowstorm, coinciding with a back meltdown. So I am publicly calling myself out, and am apologizing to NJL, who is unfairly waiting for what should have already arrived. Thanks for your patience.
-
Pierre, I just logged on to thank you. I love it. I think it's going in my office. As soon as I figure out how to post a picture of it, I will. It is one of the best things ever. Thank you!
So happy it arrived safe and sound and wasn't too offensive! haha. I showed Wally and he seemed a little perturbed.
-
Dear Santa Jordan from Chicago,
I got your package like three weeks ago. I haven't listened to any of the music or read any of the comics yet but it's all super cool. Thanks!
-

Glad you liked it, Dave! You're very welcome!
Also, just so you know, that's not ANY bullet - but it's a Four Lions promotional USB drive. And make sure to look inside!
-
Got confirmation a couple of days ago that my Santee got the package and enjoyed the contents. Mission accomplished.
Enjoyed this a lot. FoTs are the best. Count me in next year.
-
I got back into town today after having spent Christmas with my parents, and lo and behold, my Secret Santa had swung by and left me a gift! And not just any old gift - one of the the best albums of the year, Seu Jorge and Almaz, on brand new vinyl! How awesome is that? Thanks a lot, Santa aka Gilly!
-
I'm glad you like it! Better yet, I'm glad it's already there! Amazon said it wouldn't get there until Jan. 20th even though I ordered it on Dec. 10th. First time I've ever shipped something internationally so I didn't know what to expect.
-
Actually, the elves had told me about the delay, so I didn't expect it this early either! All the more fun!
-

I love the elves.
Glad this worked out so well for you both.
Happy new year,
JSN
-
According to usps tracking my gift made it to my giftee a few days ago. But can I get primary confirmation? I am prone to worrying.
-

PS: I hope my little elf got her presents...
Glad you got your gifts without any trouble! Todd Barry recognized your name when I asked for the autograph, so I thought that was pretty cool.
In other news, I'm still checking my mailbox every day for my package, hope nothing happened to it.
-
In other news, I'm still checking my mailbox every day for my package, hope nothing happened to it.
Some people have been checking their mailbox for YEARS.
(Look for a message from the elves)
-
I've been MIA from the board for a while, but wanted to echo my previous sentiments, (http://johnnyhugel.com/post/2498797802/friends-of-tom-are-the-best-kind-i-returned-from) that Jason crushed it with his gift. And hopefully my package which was unfortunately delayed on it's way out, will reach it's destination soon.

Thank you Megan of Chicago (formerly Brooklyn). Sorry about giving the system the wrong zip code, but it's nice to have presents on my first day back at the office.

I am so happy you got it! And even happier you liked it. Or at least that you are pretending to like it.
-
Has my Santee not received anything yet?! I mailed it on, like, the 21st!
It was heading for Brooklyn but still ... that's a long time, no?

Sending a special thanks to my Secret Santa, senorcorazon, for an amazing calendar he made for 2011, and the better than golden ticket to the Patton Oswalt Book event at the Warsaw, which includes the new book. I will post a photo as soon as I figure out how.
I, also, want to thank the Secret Santa organizer and Elves for putting the spirit back into Christmas for FOT's everywhere!

Dear Santa Jordan from Chicago,
I got your package like three weeks ago. I haven't listened to any of the music or read any of the comics yet but it's all super cool. Thanks!
Glad you got it, I hope you enjoy. I know it's not quite as exciting as some of these others, but I did my best.
-
Got mine today!
Super-duper rad & reassurance as to why I do this every year ...
you're welcome! I'm glad you liked it!

Attention Santas:
80% received a gift
12% status unknown
8% en route or having shipping issues
Please PM me (& the elves) with a status update. Specifically, let me know if:
- You sent a package but don't know if it arrived at its intended destination.
- You have yet to send a package.
- You have yet to receive a package.
A final note:
Please don't bail on your santee. While 'tis better to give than receive, it really stinks to be on the short end of the stick.

I would like to officially thank scratchbomb for my awesome gift! The book is great. The photography inside is amazing, and I'm looking forward to reading it, my fiancee loves it as well. I don't have an actual photo, but here is the book in case anybody would like to check it out.

Also, I received some crazily delicious pumpkin seed brittle, a delicacy which I've never tasted. The sweets did not last very long in my apartment, despite my efforts to ration them out. I almost wish I never tasted it because I don't know where to buy something similar and now I'm craving it.
Thanks again!

This books looks incredible -thanks for sharing. I'm going to go pick it up. As usual, scratchbomb has impeccable taste.

I'm a total dip. I forgot to mention the, arguably, most fun part of my gift. The package also included an eclectic "mix tape" of television commercials and programs from 1985-1990 that was edited from scratchbomb's personal collection of vintage VHS tapes. I kind of forgot about it because I was saving it to watch with friends, but I previewed the footage and I am definitely looking forward to watching the rest. I can't believe how much stuff is on there, or how disturbing commercials were in the late 80's/early 90's.
-
Hey AC, ever get around to opening your presents? DL the thing, listen to the stuff? Love to know what you thought about it.

I got slammed with doing a big thing for work and have to travel for the rest of the week -- I've been eyeing the silver baggie longingly for a week now! My life clears up big time by Thursday, though, so I'll be able to check it out soon!
-
Take your time! And safe travels!
-
Thank you EmmafromToronto (now Montreal)! I love it! Love it so much that I actually jumped up and down like a little kid when it arrived. You are so awesome, thank you!!

Thanks again for organizing, this was super fun. Although it did lead to a 50% increase in incidences of me getting yelled at by postal workers (it was deserved)
-
Geneva! So so so glad you got it. A whole lot of postal fuckups went into the sending of that gift - I'm v. relieved it all made it to you in one piece.
-
This is what I sent:

-
Who was the lucky Santee?
-
wwwes
-
Ha, he was mine the last time I participated, a couple of years ago. I gave him a glass fish and a bunch of other crap that probably ended up at the dump by New Year's Day.
-
- amiright?? Breathing a sigh of relief. Glad Customs & our countries postal service-people aren't comedy fans.
-
So amazing, ANDY!!!!
-
Also Emma - I heard that there were some shipping mishaps. I am so happy I finally got it!
-
I'm late in replying to this, as I got this a couple of weeks ago, but THANK YOU SECRET SANTA! I read your letter, and please don't worry about the delays and stuff, since that was clearly not your doing at all! :) :)
