From the dj premium page:
The Best Show On WFMU with Tom Scharpling Presents Don't Stop Me Now 2011 Best Show Fantasy Pack
A T-shirt! A poster! And a vinyl 7" with exclusive tracks by big acts recorded just for this premium! Our best yet! (Sizes available: M, LG, XL, XX)
My thoughts? I don't own a record player. :-(
Sounds nice, though! :D
-
I hope the exclusive tracks are all the charting songs from the Moves video.
-
I wonder what the poster will be? The poster from 2 or 3 years ago is still one of my favorite things that I own.
-
I hope the exclusive tracks are all the charting songs from the Moves video.
That would be one hell of a seven-incher.
-
Is everyone excited or what? I stuffed envelopes for a couple days this week, and I saw alla youse guys go by!
-

That's what she... oh, it's too late for that.
-
most excited. we will definitely be volunteering again and hope to cook on one of the Saturdays again as well
-
That sounds great.

Seven-incher? I didn't even know er!

I noticed there's no 7SD premium listed. I wonder what that means.

When did they mail last year's? DID they mail last year's?
-
Yeah, they haven't done their premiums for the last 2 years I think.
-
Two years ago they did the Ken/Andy/Obama plate. They actually sent out that one. Eventually.

I think it was last year's and the emergency 24 hour one that didn't get done - I think I almost checked off for the plate but didn't in the end.

WFMU Miracle Soap?
-
I'm in for the t-shirt alone.
Does anyone know where I can find an image of the Best Show Trading Cards from last Spring? I missed out on that one and ever since I've been obsessed with seeing what they look like.
-
The trading cards and the big bumper sticker are part of the same fun pack as the DVD.
-
Just a quick check (there may be more), but Sue P, Ken, 7SD, and Bryce don't have premiums listed this year.
It's funny. Between both donations last year, I was due four premiums, and I've only received one so far. At least Tom has been giving us updates on his. I'm certain it will be a thing of beauty when it arrives. As for the other two I'm missing... whenever I ask questions, I kind of get whatever the internet equivalent of a blank stare is.
I... don't question things anymore.
-
as far as the '10 pledge goes, I'm still waiting on the SSD, which I've resigned to never seeing.
I'm all for another best show package though...bummed there's no offer for another radio bear t-shirt (they always shrink on me.)

haha yeah mine's practically a baby doll shirt on me now.

I wonder if Tom can hook some people up with MP3's of the tracks as well... Damn you, Scharpling... Now I'll have to pledge again...

Not as of yet. They're part of "The Chump Steamroller Fun Pack" from last spring's drive. Consequently they haven't been sent out yet. But rest assured, Tom will make it very much worth the wait...
-
I love the Radio Bear design, but it's the weirdest shaped shirt ever. Super tight under the armpits, but flappy huge sleeves. Feels like it was designed for female bodybuilders to wear.
-
I love the Radio Bear t-shirt! It's more form fitting than the other generic t-shirts.
-
We will figure out a way to make the single available for digital download. WE ARE WORKING ON IT!
But trust me - it's gonna be EPIC.
Tom.
-
This sounds awesome- I'm looking forward to donating again!
However, I will lodge my yearly complaint about t-shirt sizes- I know there are plenty of female FOTs out there.
-
What's your complaint RE female sizes? Not a large range?
-
There have never (in my experience, at least) been any women's sizes available for the Best Show premium. An adult/men's M is gigantic.
-
kinda wish the shirt was available in small.
maybe trembling eagle can give me some tips on bulking up.

Oh, forgive me - I thought you meant WFMU shirts, which is why I was like ??? I did end up w/a Men's Best show shirt, you're right.
-
An adult/men's M is gigantic.
Heyyyyyyyyy.

Your concern is duly noted, Ms Oyl.

I apologize for any unintended implications. Let me be more specific: an adult/men's M is gigantic on someone who, like many adult women, is barely over five feet tall.

I was just teasing.

As was I. I understand the cost implications, but WFMU should definitely have it's shirts available in ladysizes.
-
WFMU (and a lot of the other shows) do have them in a different range of sizes. Terre T always has shirts in girlie sizes for example. Best Show's premiums, if there is a shirt, is usually a unisex size, I think.
-
1) So is the pledge drive next week?
2) How much gets us the premium?
3) How do I pre-pledge? Last time I e-mailed Tom, but he certainly has so much going on I'd rather not bother him with a question he almost certainly always gets asked.
-
More info from tonight's show: the 7" will be called "Rated GG" and it's cleaned-up covers of GG Allin songs. Contributors include Ben Gibbard, Ted Leo, F*cked up, and the Mountain Goats. Will also include digital download link, with bonus tracks. Poster and t-shirt still in the works, and there's a possible button being added to the pack as well.

Min pledge to get one DJ premium is $75 and the # of DJ premiums you get goes up w/your donation. If you pledge during the show, you can be eligible for prizes. Your pledge gets tallied in Tom's column, so to speak... I think if you pledge at other times and indicate that it's for Best Show it gets counted too, but ITS FUN WHEN YOU DO IT DURING THE SHOW! If you're doing a large amount paid in full you can "adopt" various DJs and fixtures around the station.
Here's the full site w/the info:

Thanks, Christina. I'd donate during the show if I could but I'm at work during those hours. When I pop up on the chat room it's only because of some workplace down time and I'm often hindered in the conversation as I cannot hear the show on the workplace computer. I'll keep an eye out for an envelope from WFMU and will send off my cash the following weekend...
-
Rated G.G.!!! 8) What an incredible idea. Can't wait!
-
Just pledged online. Does that make me eligible for prizes?
-
Indeed it does.
-
Sweet. So psyched for this year's premium.
Holy smokes! Gene Simmons!
-
The vinyl blew my mind alone, then I saw the shirt. I can not wait. And tonights marathon show, its insane, what an amazing night.
-
Is there an image of the new Best Show shirt posted anywhere?
Thanks. ;D
-
Nevermind. Found it!!!

Wide, low cut neck, too. My shirt was a lot paler that the toddler T I got my kid. Love the design, hate the shirt it was printed on.

Anybody else who emailed Tom his pledge: Does he email back to let you know he got it and recorded it? I emailed him yesterday and haven't heard from him. I know the big guy is busy, just wondering.
-
If you emailed me your pledge, you can assume I got it and wrote it up. It was pure chaos yesterday.
And if you are really worried that I didn't get your pledge, PM me your info and I will cross-reference it to make sure it went in.
Thanks again!
Tom.

These people on WFMU's Facebook page are actually getting offended by the GG Allin tribute, saying it's hipsters using rape for ironic comedy...

Irony? I don't know what that is.

i have no idea what a hipster is supposed to be anymore.

Going by 4chan's logic, for instance, I think the definition is "a listener of any kind of music that is not metal, classical, or any combination of the two."

it's become a weird catch all word for people to use when they're angry for no good reason.

What's particularly rich is that the person getting all huffy uses as her Facebook URL a cutesy play on the name of the plane that dropped the atomic bomb.

Is it a tribute or a mockery?
All I ever knew about GG Allin is that he used to show up on daytime talk shows all the time and would freak out the squares with his crazy antics. I think it was Geraldo he appeared on most iften, but it may have been Morton Downey Jr.
-
Is it a tribute or a mockery?
If the songs are cleaned up I'd say mockery, Mr. F-Legs.
-
has anyone gotten any 2011 marathon stuff yet? best show or other wise?
i'd totally forgotten about it until the other day and was wondering. i feel like the station swag usually arrives pretty quickly so i got worried i might have fucked something up with my info.
i'm not complaining, i'm just curious if anythings been sent out.
-
I haven't gotten anything. It seems like I don't typically get my stuff until late summer (July or August), although the WFMU homepage does say they're beginning to send stuff out.
-
Am I correct in thinking that the generic WFMU swag will be sent out before the show specific stuff?
-

In the past I've received everything in a single package, save for delayed items (like this year's Best Show premium or every year's Seven Second Delay premium).
-

Yeah, I usually get my stuff around the first week of August, right before my birthday. I think (though I could be wrong) you get your stuff once half of your pledge is paid.
-
For what it's worth, I usually receive my FMU package of goodies en masse in July.
-
I got my package of stuff this week, by far the earliest I've ever gotten it. CBC and Best Show premiums are backordered, but everything else came together.
I haven't had to chance to sample everything, but so far I'll say that the Mudd Up premium is remarkable. I'm only a casual listener to the show and I just kinda picked it on a whim. I think I may have to start listening regularly.

Mudd Up is one of my favorite WFMU programs. I can't wait to grab that premium, loved last year's "AutoTune All The Time" premium. Glad to hear it's enjoyable.
It's always interesting when /Rupture has intelligent guests, loved the show with Marcus Boon.
-
I did not select last year's Mudd Up premium. I will be selecting it for the foreseeable future.
-

The guests on Mudd Up! over the last year or so have been phenomenal. Boon, Larissa Mann, and Jeff Manaugh were all pretty eye-opening, and I don't know if anyone around here will be with me on this but I think Liturgy is killer.

I did think Nguzunguzu was kind of a dud though. Love their tunes but they didn't seem ready to really participate in the kind of discussion /rupture wanted to have.
I enjoyed Liturgy's appearance, would have loved to see them explore some of that really old choral music but Liturgy just didn't seem interested.
-
Maybe this has been discussed, but I got my regular (non-TBS) WFMU stuff. I have no particular affection for them as an organization, but in terms of not being the weirdest fit ever I'm pretty happy to see the woman's shirts are American Apparel this year.
-
I just got everything except the Best Show stuff. I am on tender hawks waiting for the Best Show stuff.

Yeah, I guess my enthusiasm is generally more muted when the guests are primarily talking about their own (or their friends') music. But I found the Liturgy chat interesting, even though I'm not really in the market for Meshuggah records or choral music (and I liked hearing from Daniel Hernandez, despite my similar feelings about most of his selections). I basically got into the show on a whim--not knowing much about most music outside the rock spectrum--so I tend to feel like I get something out of the shows even if I'm not "into it."
-
Monica's cd is backordered too :'( :o :'(
-
This was my first year donating so forgive me for asking, but should I be worried that I haven't recieved my WFMU t-shirt & soap yet? I know it takes time for these things to get mailed, but being imaptient waiting for mail to arrive is one of my less charming attributes.
-
Don't sweat it - I am about as ants in the pants as they come but I have learned to just wait this out ... it does take a good amount of time for stuff to roll out & it can make you go a little crazy. You're just seeing the first wave of comments as people are receiving their stuff, but just know that it takes weeks for everything to roll out. Don't start stressing until it's been like another month or so. It's all volunteer mailing and there's a TON of envelopes that have to go out so it's an operation that takes lots and lots of man hours.

I actually got my shirt today. Again, 99% of the time when I ask "When is it gonna get here?" it will literally come in the mail the next day. So I'm happy.
-
Is it time to start speculating when the 7" will arrive?
-
I haven't gotten anything yet. Is it too early to panic?
-

No. I don't think anyone has yet.
-
This hasn't been sent out yet, has it? Is there an ETA?
-
We are almost done. Waiting on vocals for one song to be recorded. Waiting on the poster to be typeset. They will get manufactured and we will be off to the races!
Thanks for being patient!
Tom.
-
Thanks for being patient!
Thank you for being, Doctor!
-
This show really produces premiums. I pledged for a Seven Second Delay Cavalcade of Comedy CD over two years ago and all I got was a Magic T-Shirt instead this year (because the CD never got made).

Yes it does. It took quite a while for "The Chump Steamroller Funpack" to arrive in my mail box but Tom did not lie: It was worth the wait. And so will "Rated GG"...

No problem, Tom. But it's about time for you to start thinking about the next premium, isn't it? March is a-commin'...
I hope this doesn't sound too ass kissy, but it seems like these premiums are a full time job in and of themselves...

Cool! Thanks for the update.

Should already have the shirt or does it all go out at once?
-
Should already have the shirt or does it all go out at once?
Last year I got my WFMU shirt separately, but it also wan't part of Tom's premium... As it is this year I would think they all come together like the cards and the DVD did...
-
I got my WFMU shirt/stickers/etc. within a couple of weeks of paying my pledge.
-
I'm just hoping next year's premium has Zork involved in some way. Rowdy Roddy's schedule must be pretty open these days...
-
I'm still excited for the premium, the wait just makes the anticipation increase/makes me forget I pledged for it so it will be a delightful surprise. Old news now, but when I spoke to Wurster before a Mountain Goats show in May, he said they were trying to do a full band boombox recording of a GG song... Pretty exciting news for a tMG fan, that.
-
Has anyone received the Tom&Jon... shirt or the poster yet? Tom has given a few updates about the GG 7", but I've never heard anything about the other items (which I totally forgot about until I checked this thread out of curiousity).

I think he said the Poster/T-Shirt were finished. They will all go out at once, when the 7" is ready, I would imagine. WFMU don't normally split their swag up - the amount of stuff they cram into an envelope is always amazing.
-
So know one has received the 2011 premium yet right? I'm just checking to make sure I don't need to contact the station.
Thanks!
-
I'm moving in 2 months...does anyone know the timeline for the 2011 stuff (just wondering if I should change my address).
