Title: Words With Friends
Post by: GroverJefferson on February 15, 2011, 03:14:09 PM
With Tom mentioning playing multiple games on last week's show, and the recent release of an Android version, this seemed like a good time to get a thread going for FOTs wanting to start a Words With Friends game.

Mine's GroverJefferson, and while I routinely get destroyed like my current opponents, I take solace in the fact that Kid Jersey admitted to losing pretty badly in a lot of his matches, along with the hope that I grow stronger and more skilled with each defeat.

Think I pretty much exhausted my few friends who used to be into this game, so this thread comes at the right time. I am davidquattrocchi, if you're game.

I still have it.  i just sent you a message.  Maybe that will bring it back up.

I saw it when you sent the message, Josh, but now it's gone again. I think it's because I have too many games going. I'm sure it'll pop up when it's my move again. No worries.

But only if you want to lose. And by that I mean DO IT. By far my toughest challenge.

I've enjoyed squaring off with FOTs but they are seriously good at this game, so be ready for a challenge.

Oh, best of luck.  His courtesy as a gentleman is exceeded only by his adeptness at wordsmithery.

Whitefish14.

Be warned that I reside in the UK, so with the time difference etc. it could be a slow game. I don't mind slow games. I've got one that's in its 3rd week.

Love how you can't offer free mustache rides anymore without being called out as a potential scumbag.

Seriously, though, I've been having fun playing too. Smart folks around here. Feel free to challenge! (davidquattrocchi)

I joined as Featherstonehaugh (why is "yesno" always taken?  I never see anyone else actually using it).

Please add me and friend me or whatever--I do not know how this works.

I don't know how this shit works either, as evidenced by the fact that I've so far lost by at least 100 points to everybody I've played with. I literally don't know how to score those crazy multiple points. Typically what happens is I spell the word XENOPHOBE and get 8 points, then Samir spells the word CAT and get 78 points. I don't know why.

But English is my second language, so if you wanna feel good about yourself and beat up a foreigner, go ahead: I'm mdegrell.

I used to play Scrabble a lot, until I hit my wall.  It's just about having anagram/tile-covering skills, not having a big vocabulary.

like tv shows (read: the sopranos, the wire, et al), i am going to wait this one out and see where it goes.

i have no idea how this thing works.  i'm hoping it comes to me in a dream or in the bathroom.

I scored 105 for QUITS with an FOT.

I felt bad laying down the word.  I don't mind putting the hurt on an anonymous Joe like Mr. MoustacheRides, but to take advantage of a lucky draw with an FOT seemed unfair.

Still, you play the tiles you're dealt.  Or something.

In other news, QUIZ is not an approved word in WWF.

Neither is "ACIDS."

I've sometimes found weird tile-placement bugs that are fixed by leaving the game and reentering.  Maybe some of the weirdly not-accepted words are similar kinds of transient bug.

I play a ton of FB Scrabble but I've never played WWF before. Because I have no self-control, I imagine that I will be playing obsessively.

Speaking of bugs, I left a game after having initiated it (one round) and came back to it later only to discover that my opponent had managed to enter five separate words during my absence. At first I just thought it was another instance of me not knowing the rules, but it turned out to be a bug (the tiles belonged to another game). Weird.

How long until it declares you the winner?  I have two games that are at 4 days without a response now, two games I was about to win.  I want their scalps, especially Mr. MoustacheRides.  They need to take their thumpings like men and women.

I think it's ten days then they forfeit.  Agreed. Also not a fan of resigning when it looks like you've lost. Finish it out.

I've resigned more a 100 points ahead before, with no letters in the bag, just to confuse people.

Anyway, words with friends is so point-heavy you can sometimes pull a last minute upset.
