Title: Turk 182 It
Post by: Sploops on April 18, 2007, 04:55:14 PM
I'll tell you what I'd like to Turk 182 - girls getting breast tattoos.  Why deface a thing of beauty like that?  It's a cryin' shame.

What would you Turk 182?

Hey! I'm going to get a chest piece one of these days. Most of it won't be on my breasts, but a small portion might.

From the 10/17/06 show:

"Tom debuts (starts at 2:04) a segment based on the 1985 film Turk 182. In the interest of full disclosure, Tom has an extra affinity for the film because he recorded some New York voices for the video game. In the film, Jimmy Lynch (Timothy Hutton) goes on a crusade after his fireman brother Terry (Robert Urich) gets injured during an off-duty rescue. The Mayor will not cover his medical bills because he was not on the clock. Hutton starts doing graffiti attacks throughout the town to fight back against the system. Tom wants to know what injustices, evil, and negligence listeners want to Turk 182. This segment was dedicated to the little guys, but, sadly, it ended up being the least successful call-in segment in the show's history."

I think it's the least successful segment because even after an explanation, it's still really hard to understand what "Turk 182", as a verb, actually means.

Were I to stick bananas in the tailpipes of the bulldozers that theaten Sarah's community, that would be a clear example of me Turk 182ing something.
In the movie, Turk 182ing refers to elaborate vandalism as a means of social protest.  Vigilante justice!
That's how I've always interpeted it, anyway.

As far as a humorous example for this thread goes, I got nothing...

If I had a time machine, I'd Turk 182 Glasnost.

Hmmm . . .  I know the local arsonists have plans of their own, but this would be far less likely to harm the innocent.

Thanks, Laurie!

You can read my update on the whole kerfuffle here (http://Re: A serious request for advice).

Any FOT out there interested in buying a small home in downeast Maine?  I know of at least six that will be available for the bargain price of $250,000-$350,000 in a year or so.  Your view will be wonderful.  And I'm a good neighbor, I promise, even though I never mow my lawn.

Can you Turk 182 other vandals?  I'm supposed to keep these art studios somewhat functioning and clean and pretty at the school where I work and there is one vandal who consistently does awful things, like writing over and over again on the wall in black spraypaint: "The First Rule of Fight Club Is..."
I swear to God this is true!
another time he wrote "What Are You Doing In That Stupid Human Suit?" --a quote from Donnie Darko!
Before an open studio event he wrote "I Love My Career Even Though It Rapes Me".  He also wrote something like "Chaos Is The Last Living Demon." (!!!!!)
I'm not totally sure who the guy is, but if it's who I think it is, the dude is like 25 years old.  I wanna turk 182 him, but I'm not sure how.  like write something like "Millenial Anxiety: It's not just for People Living In 1999 Anymore!" on his car.   Or his face.  My position as a graffiti-discourager prohibits me from doing so.

That was not an inappropriate suggestion, but I leave that kind of work to my assistant, Hand Banana.

While I agree with John I believe an even more obvious fatal flaw of the "Turk 182 It" segment is that no one has seen the movie "Turk 182."

Tom hates "Grindhouse" but "Turk 182" is worthy of it's own verb? I don't get it.

I SAW IT, BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I saw it on Showtime right after it first came out.  Even to my adolescent brain it was amazingly, amazingly treacly and awful.

But...

"TURK 182!"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PS It's "Turk 182!" - with the exclamation point.
