I'm not going anywhere near their deep cuts.

I have an iTunes playlist called "Songs I Like, Though Stupid" for just this kind of thing.  I guess the biggest jagoff on it is Don "Stinky" Henley, with the great, GREAT "End of the Innocence."

What I like about this song is you can hear the chunky in Jim Morrisson's voice. It sounds thick like he's in the middle of a peanut butter sandwich between takes.

I'd pick "Are You Gonna Go My Way":

Lenny Kravitz "Are You Gonna Go My Way" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mxF3M6uePfs#)

The guy is one of the worst lyricists of ever (this coming from someone who doesn't really pay much attention to lyrics), but in spite of that, I think this is a pretty good track.

Forgive me for going on a tangent but this thread made me think of that Ginuwine song 'Pony', a perennial fave of mine, and I soon Wiki'd this nugget:

'Ginuwine recently signed on as a spokesman for the beverage Adult Chocolate Milk, a 40-proof vodka-based version of chocolate milk.'

Though to be honest I have no idea whether I might like his other songs.

Aww.  I like a lot of Phil Collins' stuff. I think all of Abacab is premium, and as I have said on this board before, he did play the shit out of the drums with Genesis in the 70's.

But granted, the man is capable of horrible, horrible music ("In Too Deep" may be the quintessential bad Phil Collins song).

THEY are not good. Loggins+McDonald = two-way tie for last. But this song is great. I don't how they did it. I remember loving it as a child. It still holds up and I HATE Kenny Loggins as a musician. I'd listen to Dan Fogelberg over Loggins any day of the week. Maybe.

"Take It To The Limit" by The Eagles is another song. Maybe it's because Don Henley or Glenn Frey aren't singing it. When I was in 9th grade, my computer teacher played music in class, but only side one of a Hotel California cassette. It was the worst.

Agree with everything you wrote.

Also, Collins' work as a session drummer is deserving of some praise. He played on some of the best records of the 70's (Eno, Fripp, Thin Lizzy, early Peter Gabriel)

Brand X records feature some of Phil's best drumming; as well-known as he is for the heavy-handed in-the-air-tonight stuff, he was amazingly supple and subtle.

There's a few from U2 (I wonder if anyone hates Bono and The Edge more than I imagine Adam Clayton and Larry Mullens Jr. do?) that I really like:

Most of the albums Boy and October. Some pretty good Post-Punk in those two.

Ditto -- EFD playing the 45 to (I think) "I will follow" brought me to this conclusion.

I also like all of Buffalo Springfield and most of Manassas, though I actually find Stephen Stills more entertaining/fascinating than hateful.

You're taking into account his cracked-out '80s period when he was carrying firearms everywhere and telling people he'd kicked all the gook ass in Vietnam?

Actually, the only Stephen Stills incident I've ever heard of that makes him seem sympathetic at all was when Neil Young informed him by telegram that he was dropping out of the Stills/Young tour and Stills' first words were "I have no career."

After I finish laughing my ass off, I find that kind of human.

I killed this thread, let me briefly reanimate it.

ANTICHRIST TELEVISION BLUES - ARCADE FIRE - GLASTONBURY 2007 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=olk8feBYHeg#)

I think this song is one of the most amazing things I've ever heard, I've disliked everything else I've ever heard by or about them, and the way these people mug for the camera is grossly inappropriate for anyone over 14.  But I love this song a lot.

The version I love is the album version, but I wanted people to see the fake dancing and real mugging to get the extremes I'm talking about here.

From the moment I heard "I Hung My Head" on Johnny Cash's American IV album, I was utterly in awe of that song. Chilling, uncanny, the perfect summation of everything Johnny Cash stood for and just an unbelievable, perfectly written song by any standard. I was reminded of this today when I saw Bruce Springsteen do an awesome version, not quite as shattering as Johnny Cash's only because he isn't Johnny Cash. I can't embed it, it's on YouTube.

It's gotta be one of the greatest songs ever written and I really really don't know what to do with the horrible fact that it was written by Sting.
