Hello all -
Just a quick update - the DVD for the Best Show Fun Pack from 2010 is DONE and is being manufactured. I will update on it being finished and shipped out.
Thanks to everybody who has been so patient! And thanks to Rob Hatch-Miller for closing it out!
Tom.

Thanks, Tom.
Anyone know the status of the SSD DVD premium from 2010 (or was it CD?)? I think it was gonna be Ken and Andy performing classic comedy bits including something by S&W.

I wouldn't hold your breath for the last couple of SSD shwag pieces.

Thanks Tom! Can't wait.

7 Second Delay? more like 7 Century Delay!

This is so exciting!
A big thanks to everyone who worked on this, it sounds like a real labor of love and i can't wait to enjoy it.
-
It's gunna be Christmas in May!
-
Cannot wait. Also, I'm a little bit nervous about seeing some of the content. My head may explode.
-
This is very exciting news indeed!
One question (if anybody can help), I don't remember what address I put on my pledge and I was living at one of 3 possible adresses (long story) and want to make sure it gets mailed to the right one. Who should I ask about this?
-
Joe McGasko takes care of all of the swag delivery. Email link: http://wfmu.org/email.php?id=235 (http://wfmu.org/email.php?id=235).
-
Here's how I've dealt with this: 75 bucks is beyond cheap considering how much enjoyment I get from The Best Show, so I try to forget I get something ELSE, too. When my premium shows up it's just gravy.
-
Excellent...
Thanks for keeping us posted, Tom...
On a similar note: Has anyone else not received their pledge notice from this year's drive?

I got mine in March - you probably want to check on that.

that you should've gotten for sure by now - write Joe McGasko jmcgasko@wfmu.org & he'll check your address.

I never got mine either, but I contacted Joe and was able to get it taken care of very quickly.
-
What is a pledge notice? Is that the email that came pretty quick after pledging?
-
I don't remember whether I got it or not.
-
What is a pledge notice? Is that the email that came pretty quick after pledging?
The notice to which I am referring is a letter from WFMU containing a form and a return envelope so the pledge can be mailed in. Last year I received both this and a subsequent notice essentially telling me Tom's DVD was backordered...
As I pledged early via e-mail to The Great One himself I would have thought it somehow got lost in the shuffle. But Terese clearly read my name over the air during the drive...
I'll contact Gasko and see what gives...
Thanks for the input...
-
It's your "bill" and also includes a form to select your premiums and other gifts to which you are entitled. I paid my pledge in full during the marathon, so I thought maybe that was why they didn't send me anything, but I was able to take care of everything via email.

Right, and if you paid beforehand, your invoice should have your selected shwag as well as any prizes you won.
Write to Joe!
-
Whew, thanks very much.
-
Thanks Tom, thanks Hatch, thanks everyone involved with this.

You got it?

I just got an email from the volunteer coordinator about mailing out schwag this week so I think they're either getting ready to mail out this year's stuff or they're getting ready to mail out the DVD.
-
... or they're getting ready to mail out the DVD.

But, that's okay.

Waiting for this item has distorted my sense of time.
But, that's okay.
It will never arrive, Fredericks. This is all explained in episode 15 of the "Fredericks' Mind Thing Podcast". Or at least it was before you chopped my explanation into indecipherable bits, and ran my rich manly voice through that modulator.

Now, if this were the "Fredericks' Mind Thing" podcast, that little second voice would pop in here and say "that's how it feels getting to the end of this podcast."

Hopefully should show up tomorrow. I still need to pay for the most recent best show fun pack pledge though. I hope that doesn't cause any confusion.
-
Still waiting for mine, but it should hopefully arrive soon.
-
Wow, this has been a banner week for me. I got approved for a loan on Thursday, finally lined up a summer job Sunday, purchased a vehicle yesterday, and going to pick it up on Thursday (despite all this triumph, I am at slob-level income)! Receiving the DVD in the mail today would be the icing on the cake! *crosses fingers*
-
Nothing in today's mail. I'm a terribly impatient mail waiter.
Seriously excited for this, though.
-
I feel like this every late Spring/early Summer:
"Where's my spy camera?" (http://download.lardlad.com/sounds/season1/nightout3.mp3)
-
Listening to the show right now and I just got the news that the DVDs are almost here. This is seriously great news. I'll have have to stage a Battle Royal between the Best Show trading cards and the MF Doom trading cards.
Best Show 4 life!
-
Another disappointing day at the mailbox. I feel like Ralphie waiting for his Little Orphan Annie secret decoder ring. I hope the DVD doesn't just end up being a commercial for Ovaltine.
-
Stupid Canada Post strike. :'(
Yea. And also Air Canada is on strike. Come on Canada, get your act together...um...eh.
-
My guess is they're going to be sending this out in stages over the next month or so, like they do with the rest of the swag each year. I've decided to resign myself to getting it around late July, in any case.

Hey there proud DVD/Card Set owners,
If anyone is in a favor-doing mood, I've got a request. I did the art for the Trent L. Strauss card, however I won't be receiving one because a month before the fundraiser I was laid off, which limited my radio station donation budget substantially. I would be extremely grateful if any of you kind souls would scan the Strauss card at a decent-sized resolution and emailed it to me so that I could both see how it turned out, and put it in my online portfolio. My address is kirkd at centurytel.net. Thanks for considering!

Fun Pack arrived in Ireland!
-
Wow, Tom exceeds my expectations yet again! Truly the BEST!
-
Got my fun pack at work today--I need to watch this DVD right now!
-
Just got my fun pack in the mail today! Watch a bit of the video (Tom, Jon, WW, teaching Ted how to write a "hit" song) and flipped through the trading cards during my lunch break. Soooooo great. It blew away my already high expectations. I can't wait to get home and watch the rest of it!
-
How many trading cards are there, and what Newbridge characters are included?
-
How many trading cards are there, and what Newbridge characters are included?
29 cards: 10 real people, 1 dog, 15 character cards (a couple depict more than one character), and 3 Best Show Moment cards. I will not ruin the surprise with any more specifics.
-
Am I a character or a person, Omar? Just curious.

For the purposes of the trading cards taxonomy, you were classified as a person.

Another sad day at the mailbox.
-
Yay for me!
Haven't watched the DVD yet, but the trading cards are exceptional.
-
I wonder if my late alphabet last name is yet again working against me. Being patient though.

I wonder if my late alphabet last name is yet again working against me. Being patient though.
My last name is very late in the alphabet and I got my stuff today, so if that's the case, I'd say look for it very soon.
-
Argh. Postal strike!
-
Got mine today. The trading cards are so much fancier than I expected them to be!
I'm trying to pace myself with them and with the DVD rather than gobbling everything up all at once.
-
Still waiting for mine. And I'm in the middle of the alphabet, so I don't think these are being mailed out alphabetically.
-
I got mine this afternoon. As I didn't get home until early this evening I have yet to delve into its mysteries, but I look forward to doing so...

I actually didn't pledge during that Marathon, because money was very tight then. Thanks for the info, though. The cards in my imagination are beautiful and smell like old bubblegum.
-
I saw Joe Puppy!
In a movie.
-
My fun pack showed up on Saturday. The trading cards are tremendous and the DVD is just spectacular. Totally worth the wait. Thanks to Tom and everyone else who worked so hard on this beautiful, ridiculous thing.
-
One, please.

(By which I mean, eagerly awaiting my Premium, just hasn't arrived yet!)
-
This is so great... all of it.
Chicago FOT's: I'm thinking we could pull off a Viewing party at the bar I work at some Monday in July... thoughts? Like show half of it, intermission, show the rest. Have a DJ play some records, etc.
-
I did not see Fredericks!
In a movie.

How LONG is it? (Content-wise; I assume the disc is about 5 and a quarter inches.)

2.5 hours.
I haven't had a chance to watch the whole thing yet, but I will say that it's very exciting that Julie was able to get Mr. Brainwash to direct her segment.

Assuming this is the same segment I saw many months ago, I thought it also had a Korine-y feel to it. Especially a night segment that involved firecrackers or sparklers or something? Sadly I recall no trash being humped or otherwise stimulated.

This Digital Versatile Disc arrived by horse carrier to my estate this morning.

Julie's clip certainly was reminiscent of Trash Humpers. While Fredericks shared the aesthetic of the drug induced firs person POV hallucinations of Kathryn Bigelow's Strange Days.
Fantastic work everyone who contributed!
-
I have never experienced a Korine film, and since I will assume his films do not have such a delightful protagonist, I'm not in any hurry to do so.
-
The interview with Zach had me laughing uncontrollably.
-
It arrived! All the way over in the UK!
To prove it is in the UK, I photographed it next to a bottle of Brown Sauce.

UGH. I'm still waiting. I'm pretty sure I know my geography, and I'm pretty sure I know that Rhode Island is much closer to NJ than Ireland, Sweden, and any other country in Europe. What gives? When should I start bothering Joe McGasko?

I don't have mine either. I'm in Virginia. I would say to hold tight. I try to keep in mind that this is a free bonus I receive from donating to WFMU. It was made by hard-working people for free, and is getting mailed out by volunteers. They probably have a lot of DVDs to send out and can't do them all in one day or one week.
When my DVD shows up, I will be happy. Until then, I am content to wait it out.
-
I've only watched the first half but so far the Tim and Eric, Zach and Jon's Ramones story are highlights.
-

I don't think they all ship at the same time. I would give it another day or two. I got mine (NJ) yesterday. I have not watched the DVD yet but those trading cards are delightful, amazing, just awesome. I really felt like a kid holding these. I had memories of my favorite baseball cards and wacky packs. They are little treasures. Wes, Omar, and the others did a great job.

I'm in Mass and don't have it yet either. I may have have to stop reading this thread for fear of spoilers. Oh patience, how little I have of ye.
-
Knee surgery yesterday morning, arrived home to find a WFMU package waiting. REDEMPTION. Brilliant so far. I'm trying to drip feed it to myself given that I'm stuck at home for the next 2 weeks. Loved the Ted Leo songwriting session. The production on the Other Side of the GOMP bit is beautiful too.
-
I have moved twice since I pledged. What's the chances of me getting the DVD in the mail :(?
-
I'm in California and got mine. Thank goodness, because this thing is excellent. I won't ruin it for those who haven't seen it. I just want to post my thanks and praise to all involved. You all knocked it out of the park x 1,000,000.
-
Truly, the greatest DVD ever. 8) 8) 8)

I thought Spike was supposed to be on this thing????
-
I thought Spike was supposed to be on this thing????
Like his book, it never materialized.

If you email Joe McGasko about it, I'd give it a 100% chance.
-
Way better than the chance you vote would get counted in Florida.
-
Anybody spot themselves in "No Weak Pits?" I spotted myself and my friend. Matt Fraction is the man.
-
I was reading the cards when I went to sleep last night... woke up this morning and discovered I BENT MY MIKE!!!!
-
Anybody else not get theirs yet. Still waiting on my 2011 premium too. I'm feeling left out.
-
I'm still waiting for mine, too, Alex. I'm in Chicago, which isn't TOO far away, but it doesn't seem like distance has anything to do with it. Ho hum.
-
If you email Joe McGasko about it, I'd give it a 100% chance.
Thanks!
I just got my 2011 Premiums in the mail yesterday (forwarded from the previous address) and on the packing slip it had "Best Show Fantasy Pack" listed as backordered.
I emailed Joe with my listener # off the packing slip, so we'll see what happens...
-
This is so great... all of it.
Chicago FOT's: I'm thinking we could pull off a Viewing party at the bar I work at some Monday in July... thoughts? Like show half of it, intermission, show the rest. Have a DJ play some records, etc.
Which bar? I would love it, as I came to the Best Show recently, post-pledge/dvd opportunity. I know at least 4 people that would come with me!
-

I don't have mine but I have zero expectations of getting it quickly, partly as I am in the UK and partly as a pledged way late, like 6 months after the marathon and I'm cool with getting it whenever. Just to have it will be reward enough.
-
I only post when my premium arrives.
Posting 8)
-
It arrived and it was awesome.
-
I got it and I've watched it. Absolutely exceeds expectations and was worth the wait.
I particularly liked 'Track Jacket Chat', which I thought was a very effective translation of Scharpling and Wurster to the TV screen. Also loved the travelogues, although I wish Fredericks would have been on camera at some point, and the bit where they give Ted Leo career advice and help him write the song about playing vidtriv.
Out of curiosity I asked Milo if he'd had a chance to see the DVD, since he makes a couple of appearances (including in the PFT bit as 'Miles'), and his response in its entirety was 'nope'. Anyhow.
-
I think Kurt Vile's "You sound stupid" is my favorite moment of the entire DVD.
-
I won't ruin it but "Vid triv" is an absolute classic. The Ffed Up video is finely crafted cartoon fantasy and amazing song. Julie and Fredricks have equally surreal videos. Wow. Worth the wait. I was worried they forgot my pledge,
::)
-
Still waiting for mine.
-
There is only problem with this DVD, and it is that I wish there was a new one every month for us to enjoy.
Truly spectacular, and such a representation of the show and the community in its entirety. So, so, so, so well done. Thanks to everyone who put this together!
-
I feel like I'm the last person in NYC who hasn't gotten theirs yet...
grumble.

Still haven't gotten mine in Brooklyn. I was going to email someone, but I guess I'll just wait a little longer…
-
Thanks to everybody for being patient. The station is literally mailing a couple thousand of these out so they all can't go out at once. But they're going out at a really fast rate.
Thanks for all the nice words! You will ALL get the DVDs. Hang tight!
Tom.
-
I don't think I got the sticker, just the DVD and the cards. Is there any chance I can get one of them?
The DVD is very nice, from what I've seen. Due to my nephews being in town I haven't been able to see more than Dave from Knoxville's part and Julie's travelogue (i.e.: Julie drinking, playing with Yetta, some sparkler thingees... And why haven't I heard her mention Harvey before? That dog's way cute.)
The cards are sweet as well. Best card: Spike. Most depressing card: Dogmo, because it remineded my that my super cool Jack Russell will one day keel over and how sad I'll be when that happens. Biggest suprise: Amee Mann's card for Philly Boy Roy...
All in all a classy production. Again, Tom lived up to his end and then some...
-
Most depressing card: Dogmo

If this does happen I would happily be on-board for a viewing party. I got on the 'Best Show' wagon a little too late to have pledged/gotten this dvd and after reading all of the glowing comments, I feel this is something I really need to see.
-
i was happy to hear Negativland in Fredericks' portion of the DVD!
-
"Vidtriv......"
-
i was happy to hear Negativland in Fredericks' portion of the DVD!
I knew there had to be a Negativland fan in there somewhere, despite his lack of appreciation for OTE...
I hope Ted know the next time he's on the show he'll be required to sing the song he wrote with Tom and Wurster...
"Then I play Vidtriv"
-
Just wondering if anyone else is still waiting for their DVD to arrive? I haven't received mine yet - I am in California so I was expecting it to take a little longer - but now I am not sure... I am really excited to see it!
-
If you didn't see this thread, check it out - all DVDs are now out as of last Friday!

Got it today and everything is glorious. The artwork on the Wurster trading card reminds me of the Chuck Jones movie version of "The Phantom Tollbooth".
-
I got it today and its amazing. I'm up to track jacket chat on the dvd, and Tom saying, "Cool, cool" while they interview Todd Barry is killing me.
-
I couldn't have been more delighted to get my dvd in the mail this morning. However, I couldn't have been more shocked by the sheer amount of borderline illegal erotic animation on said dvd! :o
-
Thanks for the DVD. First time seeing Tom -- a noble face, somewhat Groucho-like in the nose/forehead, and surprisingly large expressive hands.
-
Got mine yesterday. Watched it this morning.
Let me say that I easily own over 300 VHS tapes (four crates full) and a good amount of DVDs (two crates full), and this is probably my most prized addition to my collection.
Yes, I keep movies in crates.
-
One of the unexpected highlights of the dvd is the revelation that Tom is a more-than-credible actor! Love it.
-
The closing credit video footage of Tom while on the phone with Jon is one of my favorite parts of the whole thing. I'd always wondered what kinds of faces Tom was making while Jon was saying all those crazy things, and now I have my answer in video form.
-
If this were a TV show, I'd watch it every week.
Actually, if there was just a show of the puppet from the beginning, I'd watch it every week.
-
It is so, so good. And so very worth the wait.
In addition to all the great comedy, the Boston Spaceships and F'ed Up videos are just superb. Thanks to Tom and everyone else involved!
-
Having a pretty "hardweek" at work. My summer job is the coordinator for an international ESL youth summer school. One of the Russian kids got lippy with another kid downtown at a bus stop and ended up spending the night in emergency. A looong day/night for everyone involved.
Needless to say, I was delighted to come home and open my mailbox last night. Completely brightened my day. The dvd is so worth the wait.

Only in this particular re-imagining, the Wolverine won.

I'm gonna say the Mike part was my favorite as well. The whole thing was pretty much wonderful.
-
Got my DVD last week and watched it with some recently-converted FOTs here. We all loved it bunches and bunches.
Quick question though, regarding other WFMU marathon schwag - is everyone getting theirs in separate packages at different times? Like, I received a few things a few weeks ago, then a couple more things a week later but I still haven't received my t-shirts & stickers and of course the back-ordered stuff. Are any of y'all still t-shirtless or should I shoot Joe M. an email? It's no biggie, really. I don't pledge just to get schwag but ... I've lost weight and am poor and need some new shirts! :o :-* :D EMOTICON!

With all this dvd excitement I keep forgetting that we'll be getting a very special 7" and tshirt in the mail in the next few months.

What's the image on the computer in DFK's office?

I don't remember that. But you had lots of science/chemistry professor things in your office, mixed in with the Best Show things. I distinctly remember the b/w poster drawing of the Supercallers. You performed a raw haunting acoustic version of the Themeweavers at the beginning and end.

The whole thing is great, but a special shout-out to Yetta and Harvey.
Also, while Fredericks's segment has me jonesing to move to Newport Richey, I do have a question: Fredericks, do you just routinely walk into foreclosed and abandoned homes? Is this a Newport Richey thing, like burning Christmas trees?

Yes to the former and no to the latter.
-
Fredericks, I want to commend you on listening to Against Me!

Great ears. They are from Gainesville.

Did you wear a balaclava even though you were in control of the camera, just in case you passed a mirror or something?

Mike needs to host a tv show of some kind.

I love words like balaclava - so exotic sounding! For a fucking hat!
-
Did we get the GG Allin thing yet? Nobody's commented on it yet that I've seen, and I don't think I got it with the other stuff.
