Title: Ted Leo...Great Guy...
Post by: Derek (from Chicago) on May 06, 2011, 12:46:13 PM
...not like people didn't already know this.

I saw Ted play a solo show last night here in Chicago. Great time. I was surprised (and pleased) when Ted closed out the show by dedicating the last song to all of the FOT's in the crowd before going into a great rendition of 'Backseat of My Car.'

Great stuff. Ted Leo...you're a cool dude.

Ted Leo is greater than great for reasons that go far beyond his amazing music. Ted Leo is Good Guy #1 in my book and we all know what happens to good guys around here.

totally agreed. Ted is one of the all time greatest humans. His shows are always great, I'm glad you had a good time. I can't believe he played "Backseat of my Car", i'd love to see him play it. It would be awesome if there was a whole TOM album live show where all the artists perform the whole thing.

This week on NPR's all songs considered, the panelists were asked to describe their musician that they were most likely to stick with through thick and thin. One of the three chose our hero, Teddy Rockstar. It's in the last 10 - 12 minutes of the episode along the lines of "Bands you broke up with."  It's near the bottom of this page.  http://www.npr.org/2011/05/03/135816315/splitsville-breaking-up-with-your-favorite-bands (http://www.npr.org/2011/05/03/135816315/splitsville-breaking-up-with-your-favorite-bands)

I met Ted twice last year and he was so nice. Even though my friends crowded around him while he was playing bag toss he was really nice.

Ted Leo is greater than great for reasons that go far beyond his amazing music. Ted Leo is Good Guy #1 in my book and we all know what happens to good guys around here.
I could write a book about how great Ted is. When Chain and The Gang played in Providence a few months ago James "Little Jimmy" Canty introduced me to Ian Svenonius as "a friend of Ted's." Ian asked me what Ted was like, and I know that Ian has known Ted for decades, but I played along and recounted how Ted and Jodi came to my wedding (when my own parents did not) even though he had told he might not be able to make it because he was leaving the following morning for Sweden (or Norway, I can't remember which, but it was in that part of Europe) for his sister's wedding. He had a legitimate excuse for not being able to make it, and I actually didn't expect him to come, but I remember my heart dropping when I didn't see my folks in the Meeting House (my Dad told me a few days before that they weren't coming when I tried to get my birth certificate so we could get a marriage license, but I didn't believe him), and then my heart swelling when I saw Ted and Jodi there. That's just one of the many stories (but definitely the greatest) I have of the awesomeness that is Ted Leo. I would go to the wall for that guy.

sorry for rambling

Thanks for this, he closed with the same song in Philadelphia and was hoping someone had gotten the video, this is the next best thing.

Also, I'll add to the chorus of Ted Leo being the greatest

Oh man that cover of "Do Anything You Wanna Do" is killer also!

If you're not familiar with the original:

He's the greatest. I can relate to his music and it doesn't depress me like Swiss yodeling does.

Love Ted Leo. Got meet him and his significant other in LA in February and they were as nice as I could have hoped - plus Ted put me on his An Evening With... show and I got to share the stage with some real heavyweight comics. Did I mention his performance was great? I meant to! Now if I only I could go to Austin and see Citizen's Arrest...

Standup guy: I talked to him for maybe 5 minutes at the Gathering of the FOT by the stairs in the Iron Monkey.  What you would hope somebody talented and well known would be.  He was raised right, as we (used to) say down in the South.

There's probably only 2 or 3 of you left out there that I haven't already harassed with this story, but me and AFK got to see Ted in Nashville Tuesday night, and it was world-rocking, on top of which, Ted did something really nice for us that was as thrilling as it was unexpected. Please read about it over here at my blog.

In my two encounters with Ian Svenonius (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ian_Svenonius) he was very friendly. He listened to my story and said, "He's a good mensch". The first time I met him I told him about Tom premiering Felt Letters' "600,000 Bands" on The Best Show. He's an awesome showman/sharp dresser and has incredible hair.

This playlist (http://www.youtube.com/playlist?p=PLD3765EC5DE0142C7) doesn't have his full set, but there are a couple of decent quality vids of Ted laying into some Minor Threat classics at the Our Band Could Be Your Life tribute last week-ish.  Also, Titus Andronicus doing the Replacements, among other things.  Looks like fun.
