I will be visiting this citiy soon. Give me ideas of stuff to do there. What are some good clubs for live music?

Toronto's maybe my favorite city I've ever visited.
My wife and I had an absolute blast just walking around the downtown area (mostly the west streets, as you'll figure out on their grid). We also loved Kensington Market, Chinatown, Greektown and the Beaches neighborhood. I'm pretty sure Queen Street West was their hipster pocket. It's also home to The Rivoli which is one of the centers of their alternative comedy scene and where the Kids In The Hall got their start. We paid an homage and went there.
We just pretty much ate a ton of food, went to a Blue Jays game and popped into a few record stores and things like that. The people there couldn't be friendlier -- we had about four separate people buy us drinks and tell us where to go and would walk with us to places.
I didn't see any shows there but there's a ton of venues and small bars with places. I stood outside a bar in Kensington Market and watched these 50-ish punk rock guys do a mix of old material and a ton of 70s punk stuff. And then a block away were these two girls in their late teens doing acoustic Pixies songs. I usually just walk past street musicians but they were pretty incredible and worth watching for a while.
I think the best way to experience Toronto is to just get a general sense of where
I would seriously move to Toronto if it wasn't in another country and really cold.

Whenever I see the title of this thread, I add "when you're dead" in my head.

I think this thread (http://friendsoftom.com/forum/index.php/topic,5504) probably has what you're looking for.
Now Magazine (http://www.nowtoronto.com/) or The Grid (http://www.thegridto.com/) are the alt-weeklies which will have listings of music, art, etc.
I haven't lived in Toronto for almost a decade, but I am very fond of it (a relatively rare stance within Canada - it's the city that people love to hate.) Enjoy your visit!

I am contractually obligated to promote the Toronto Fodor's guide, since my wife works on it. Also, to spread the lie that "the ding ding" is what the natives call the trolleycars.

Also what we call our mayor!
Toronto in the summertime is too much fun. Walk until your legs give out, drink in a park, and go to the island if you can.

There is much to do and see.
I would suggest trying to stay somewhere near Chinatown, from there you can walk around and see a lot of stuff.
Kensington Market & Queen Street West have all sorts of great restaurants and bars. You can buy a weekly metropass and take transit everywhere downtown.
You can take the ding dings around or the subway. We also have these bike rental things called Bixi where I think its $5 a day and you can ride bikes around too.
Have fun!
