Title: The Best Show Trading Cards!
Post by: Omar on July 06, 2011, 12:38:16 PM
Let's start some chatter about these fine slabs of cardboard! Anyone plan to have them professionally graded? If yes, will you use BGS, PSA, or some other service? Will the Spike card become the 1989 Upper Deck Ken Griffey Jr. rookie of the '10s? Will any "real-life" subject file a defamation lawsuit regarding the imagery and/or text on their card? Anyone catch the 1989 Fleer William Ripken visual reference on one of the cards? As Bob Grant says, "It's your voice....let it be heard from the roof of the REO Diner!!"

Will any "real-life" subject file a defamation lawsuit regarding the imagery and/or text on their card?

I have Samir on retainer.

But he keeps trying to recuse himself.

Does his non-Indian fiancee have him hooked on cigs yet?

I plan on chattering away tomorrow. I don't have them in front of me--they are  in a safe deposit box and I will have to retrieve them after work. They really are some of my most treasured possessions.

Fredericks with Samir as his lawyer seems like an exact inversion of the Walter White/Saul Goodman client/lawyer relationship.

Love the artwork on the cards! All of them are great, and many get very close to how I have imagined the people/characters. Just a great range of art, and they all look fantastic.

Between the DVD appearance and the card portrait (and man, what a portrait), the JW-as-Roy seems to have taken the place of the previous "known photo" of Philly Boy Roy, the origins of which I will always remain curious.

I still want to put together a list of rules to make this into a Collectible Card Fighting Game at some point.

I went to Walgreens a while back and there was a cashier who looked exactly like the guy in the photo. I was kind of spooked, actually.

As far as the cards, I'm going to encase the Laurie in Miami card in one of those wallet-thick plexiglass containers, since it is an error card and therefore automatically extremely valuable.

Missing out on this giveaway will haunt me into my grave.

Does "Neil Numberman" do any of the art on the cards? Or the guy who does the S&W album covers (I'm sorry; I forget his name). Those are my two favorite artists when it comes to portraying the sights, sounds and smells of Newbridge.

Neil Numberman: James, Judge Montgomery Davies, Big Bill/Little Bill/Mr. Sherbert

Casey Burns did not do any artwork for this set.

(I'm sorry; I forget his name).

No apology could be too great!

OK, missing out on a Big Bill/Little Bill/Mr. Sherbert card is the last straw. How could I have done this to myself?

I'm going to go put my left hand in the paper shredder for approx. 5 minutes.

Can't believe no one has mentioned the Zachary Brimstead card by Scott Teplin! That one might be my favorite.

The trading cards are awesome! I didn't catch the Billy Ripken "Fudge Face" reference at first, but now I see it.  :)

I am proud to say that I suggested the "Fudge Face" idea to Regular Joseph.  His drawing is wonderful.

I have not yet received this bounty. (Still!). But I'm glad that Fredericks enjoyed what I wrote about him. He pays me a generous hourly rate.

They are all sooooooo good, but the Fredericks one melts my face. I can't wait to get high and just stare at it. The Zachary Brimstead is also amazing. They all are!

Aw, thanks Hugman!!! With no visual reference I wound up listening to the Fredericks sound board WAY more than is probably healthy to get it JUST RIGHT, and I wasn't even high.

I'd forgotten about the Big Bill/Little Bill/Mr Sherbert call until I saw the card. Brilliant. That was one of the best calls ever.

My sincere apology. There is no "Dave" card. I have been Best Show blessed in dozens of ways, but that one slipped by me.

I drew a Dave card... in my heart. I did not however, draw no damn beret on the fish. I blame Omar, Joe and Tom for that (and my ears).

FoT are such amazing artists, I hope this isn't the last gathering of something like this though, I love these cards. C'mon Tom, Best Show anthology comic!  ;D

I'm just trying to find sheets of trading card sleeves. Do kids not collect trading cards anymore?

How will you read them?

I think a trading card binder would be better. (Note: You can find sleeves on Amazon.)

Good point, I guess I need individual, rotating glass holders for each card.  Probably worth it.  Or, I could just use a rubber band.
