Title: Going to Seattle - Any suggestions?
Post by: methanolcereal on July 24, 2011, 05:58:36 PM
Hey everyone,

I'm going to Seattle in a couple weeks to do some sight seeing and see some friends and I'm looking for things to see and places to go.

My friends have suggested a couple places and a co-worker who visits regularly had some other suggestions, but I was wondering what ideas you fine folks had.

I haven't posted in a while, but I know there is a fairly strong FOT contingent in the Pacific Northwest so I figure this is a good place to ask.

Thanks in advance

Three Seattle threads, and not one of them mentions SCARECROW VIDEO?  That place is to movies and DVDs what Powell's (in Portland) is to books.

Go crazy.

I'm thinking of coming to NYC. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Solo Rube in the City.

I recommend these two Seattle purveyors of pizza:

As the above article mentions, the Serious Pie "Happy Hour" specials are a great deal.

There's also Bambino's, Via Tribunali, and Vivace pizza.

(None come close to L&B in Brooklyn though, but that's hardly surprising. But all good places nonetheless.)

More info, please, Dave. Perhaps a Thread of Your Own? You know you've got tickets to a museum lined up at the bare minimum.

But will I be able to find a private cardboard box to sleep in in the park?

I stayed in a hotel north of Seattle one time that had four TV channels, one of which was the Playboy channel.

I don't think I've ever felt so uncomfortable just sleeping in a bed.  Thank God this was before the bedbug epidemic.

Whatever you guys do when visiting here, Don't Stay At Any Place On Aurora Ave! You'd most likely catch things worse than bedbugs.

For a good central location in downtown, the Ace Hotel gets accolades. The Days Inn on 7th near Denny is a neutral choice. A friend of mine usually stays at the Moore, which apparently is the cheapest, but I don't know the hitches with that deal.

The most central spot for drivers who want to stay outside downtown is the Silver Cloud on Broadway & Madison in Capitol Hill. Not the cheapest, but I've heard unanimous praise for that location. With every place, you can find cheaper, outlying places if you drive.

I DID stay on Aurora Avenue!  Curse you, AAA Guide, even if you did give it one star.  It's been a long time and nothing's shown up on my tox screens, though, so I think I'm safe.

I stayed at the Ace Hotel a few years ago when we were out there for a wedding and it sucked. It was a small fortune to have the right to stay in the tiniest room possible. But you did get your choice of various religious tomes (various editions of the Bibles to the Bhagavad Gita) and select doors had pictures of various rock stars stenciled on them.

Good sushi bar on the ground floor, though.

Is there a reality 'Frasier' tour? Must miss.

If I were forced to choose:
a) reality Frasier tour
b) Ride The Ducks
whatever was not b) would win.

Gregg, you're the first person i read who didn't like the Ace. Sorry it didn't work out.
