Title: Tompkinspotting
Post by: John Junk on May 07, 2007, 01:58:05 PM
I saw the one and only PFT walking down the street in a suit with some other good looking people, headed to the Silverlake Film Festival.  I had half a mind to yell out "Best Show!" or "FOT!" or some crap, but I decided to let the man have his dignity in the company of adults.  It was only after he walked by that I realized I totally had the "Eat Flaming Death Fascist Media Pigs" marahton premium t-shirt on under a short-sleeve button-down.  I considered how fmu-centric my life experience has become...

You should've told him you were Sol F Tompkins' biggest fan.

A PFT appreciation thread?  I'm in!

I found the first 10 minutes of his Driven to Drink (http://youtube.com/watch?v=xut1xnx1O6s) special on youtube.  It's about a decade old, not available on DVD, and very funny.

I wonder if he joined just to check up on potential stalkers.  You're safe, man, I swear!

His ears were burning. I told him those ear candles (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ear_candling) were a bad idea.

Hmmm...  maybe my photo-posting and gushing fanboy anecdote scared him away.
I wasn't gonna bother him with dumb questions or anything.
That's what that other site is for. :(

PFT is on this week's episode of Never Not Funny (http://pardcast.com).

PFT was interviewed by an in-over-his-head dolt from iFilm (http://www.ifilm.com/video/2857015) and still made it hilarious.

PFT's new album of classic material will be available here (http://www.aspecialthing.com/store/index.htm) on June 12th.

Finally, PFT announced plans to appear on the 6/12 Best Show here! (http://www.aspecialthing.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?p=116889#116889)

Thanks for the links, guys.  No thanks for holding on to that asterisk thing well past the expiration date.

I resolve to stop beating that dead horse today*.

*What? It's still today. No hard feelings Jouster, just dumb message board antics.

I'm over the asterisk thing, too.
I still love aspecialthing.  They're the ones putting out the PFT album for crying out loud.
They're also responsible for a lot of Tom's newish fans.(myself included)

The * was fun, but past its comedy prime.  If used strategically and sparingly, I think it could transcend any residual anti-aspecialthing sentiment to become a source for the occasional callback laff.  Like in 6 months, someone will drop the *, and we'll all chuckle and say, "Ah!  Remember that s hit!"

Plus, aspecialthing's books division is going to start releasing bound volumes of the Best Show Recaps in the fall.  (They outbid McSweeney's and Scholastic).

Paul F. Tompkins is on Conan tonite!

He better drop a Best Show mention.  Maybe he and Conan will talk about the Stereolaffs stuff the whole time, to the point where Conan cancels the other guests.

This is the sort of thing I would think about if I had a radio show.  I hope S&W are more grounded, because if I watched PFT for his 5 minute bit and there was no Best Show reference, I'd say, "that's it for that guy."

He did make mention of the "lead pipe and bicycle chain".

PFT needs a shave and a haircut.  For shame.

PFT on Gary's World.

His suit choice on this one? A browned leprechaun; a sun-dried elf.
