Title: Wurster podcast interview thing
Post by: Martin on September 26, 2011, 01:17:10 PM
I have a podcast called Arthur. Jon was kind enough to come on as a guest on the most recent episode.

Great interview, thanks! It made me wonder how many people have Best Show tattoos. I bet there is a lot, since the only thing keeping me from getting one is that I hate tattoos.

Its the ultimate expression of BEST SHOW FOR LIFE!

A wonderful chat.

Awesome. I'm about twenty minutes in. Is the accent real, or is Martin doing schtick? I'm lost, but either way, I approve.

I've said this before, but my big questions for JW would be: What kind of phone do you use (I've yet to hear a dropped Newbridge call), from where do you usually call, and have any neighbors or passers-by ever wondered what the heck you're screaming about.

Total schtick. "Martin" also calls in as Frank from Weehawken; the accent is just his attempt to get around the ban next week.

Alright, alright, ALRIGHT!

Listening now & enjoying.

It's always weird for me to hear Jon talk as himself.

Just curious, what accent is that?

(Not trying to be sarcastic, I'm genuinely curious - I feel like I'm all over the map, but it's hard for me to objectively judge that.)

Anyway, not to derail my own thread - thanks for the kind words, everybody.

It sounded Rhinelander German to me, but at the end of the interview you mentioned being of French descent, so now I don't know what to think!

Loved the interview.  I noticed that at the end Jon goes, "Question for you..." I fear the line separating him from the Newbridgverse weakens with each passing hour.

That was a joke. I'm Swedish.

Great interview Martin! Thanks!

Jon's question to you about which language you think in was great. I'm also always fascinated by that too. Being bi-lingual (or multi-lingual) must be a lot of fun.

Ah, Swedish. Well, has anyone ever told you you have the English accent of a Rhinelander?   :)

Serious question: Has Jon or Tom hinted at a new S&W album lately? I remember Tom saying something in an interview back in June, but since then, I haven't been able to dig up anything.

I wonder - most fans probably now hear all the bits on the show or have them saved on their computers through the podcast.  I don't think they were huge moneymakers.  Sales, unfortunately, wouldn't be commensurate with the growth in audience, and that's leaving aside the whole issue of commercial downloading.

I channeled Gene Simmons for this analysis.  You're welcome.

They don't need to be physical releases anymore, though.

Buffcoat, I think either Jon or Tom said something about the next album being all new, non-radio material; I don't remember which interview that was in.  So fans who listen weekly still have incentive to buy.  Also, more F-bombs.

Great interview, Martin.

Yeah, I agree with Buffcoat that an album of old material won't make money, Tom definitely said -- in either AV Club or NYMag -- that they were working on all-new stuff.

Great interview. Does anyone have a link to the Funny or Die video discussed in the interview? Thanks in advance.

It's available on the podcast page under plugs.

(When I copy the link here it shows up as that Landlord bit from FoD. Don't know why.)

What was the name of the documentary Jon mentions mid-way through the interview about the P.O.W turned propaganda film actor? I haven't been able to find it.

Crossing the Line. It's on Netflix instant. I watched it after listening to the interview. It's pretty good.

I'm interested in new material.  I really liked the S&W DVD stuff.  Other non-show recorded stuff has sometimes been great - the Ted Leo interview for Das Rocksheet sticks out in my mind, and I like the Augie Richards Newbridge Now.

"... is... boring."
