Title: Shame on you WNYC!
Post by: theElizabethanCaller on September 27, 2011, 03:39:49 PM
Following in the footsteps of John Zorn, another EOT that has recently received a MacArthur “genius” grant (well, NPR is the enemy more than the guy): Jad Abumrad.  Hate to be a L.B., a la Mathew Tompkins, but after Tom did a little bit of ripping on Mr. Abumrad during last week's show, I realized that WNYC is sponsored by the MacArthur Foundation!

Here is a link re: the award -

And now, I had a bit of trouble uncovering the necessary dirt, but I found a link implicating the direct sponsorship of WNYC by the MacArthur Foundation.  It is on the page for a sub-series, which appears during the morning news, appropriately entitled “Radio Rookies” –
[http://www.wnyc.org/shows/rookies/about/]

Scroll down about a third of the page and you will see “Radio Rookies is supported by Adobe Foundation, Axe-Houghton Foundation…John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation…”  Although the Radiolab website does not claim to be “supported” by the Mac Found., many other WNYC shows wholeheartedly admit to this association.

All I can say is SHAME ON YOU NPR AND SHAME ON GENIUSES EVERYWHERE!

WBEZ in Chicago is heavily supported by the MacArthur Foundation.  I think they support most NPR stations.
