Title: Scharpling Platinum Records
Post by: Shaggy 2 Grote on November 20, 2011, 11:29:44 PM
My entry in the Best Show Enthusiasm Rewards Club. I got to name a recording studio for the teevee show I write for, and to my great delight, the art department made some platinum records to go with it. The photos aren't great, but you get the idea.

That is great. Is it a faux pas to ask what show you write for?

That's Incredible!  And I'm also very curious about what show you write for - I want to check it out.

When did That's Incredible come back on the air?

I think it's apparent that he writes for American Idol.

I'm Van's second assistant lead joke writer on The Van Morrison Variety Two Hours. We did a sketch about the recording of that contractual obligation album where he just makes noises.

Just kiddin'. It's for a show called Smash, which premieres in February. It's about a certain MTV VJ's journey to Broadway.

That weird reflected image of someone angrily clawing at the records in many of the photos is haunting.

Very excellent S2G! I look forward to learning about Smash's journey to Broadway.

That's me. I'm perfecting my "air strangle."

It's weird.  That dude shows up in a lot of my photos, too, but I never see him when I'm taking the picture.

These are so great!

Does the name of the label ever get said on air, S2G?

Thanks, guys.

Amiright??: nope. I named a couple of minor characters after Newbridge residents, but the scenes either got cut or the names got changed for various reasons. The records are deep background in all the shots and people would have to do some serious technological wizardry to see the labels. But I was expecting a sign on the front door, so the LPs are thrilling. I wonder if there are any WFMU listeners in the art department -- there are a lot of them on the crew.

A quick update!  About 20 minutes into next Monday's episode (4/3), Debra Messing suggests some Newbridgians as possible leading men for the musical in "Smash."  You have been warned.

You can watch it free on Hulu or the NBC site as of Tuesday AM, I think.

Me too.  I think he'd make a great DiMaggio, and his dancing chops have to be seen to be believed.

Checked the time on the video when it happened, and it was about 15 minutes in.

Catching up now.  Am I going through the right episode? "Hell On Earth"?

Nope!  Both of mine (with the Best Show references) are 7, "The Workshop," and 13, "Tech."

It's kinda like Bob on "Twin Peaks"...

I will confess that we totally lifted the Bob thing from Twin Peaks for Smash.

I love Smash. It's so great. Well done. I'm only 4 episodes in and will be on the lookout for the records.

I went back and read the rest of this thread.  :o

Smash Best Show Easter Eggs is my favorite thing ever.
