Hi!
I guess I can make a thread for myself, right?
There are other Durham/Chapel Hill/Raleigh FOTs around here, right? Other threads would indicate so.

Depends on how important you think you are.

Important enough for my own thread apparently.

Hello, Andy!
I am going to take the liberty of welcoming you into the recently formed Triangle FOT Council. We went to see Ted Leo and John Hodgman, and we met Ted, John and Jon Wurster. They were all nice. That reminds me, someone better call the show and tell Tom that we met them and they were nice. I think there's talk of a DVD screening thing.
-
They're playing a joke on you, Andy. There are no FOTs in Durham, the Triangle, or North Carolina. Sorry!

Yeah, it must be hard to support a fanbase here with no local connections. Whaaaaaaaaat?

That's just a rumor. All those people who call who sound alike over the last 11 years? Just a coincidence.

What do you mean?

Howdy.
There is indeed a fledgling Council of FOTs in the Triangle... our mission statement is to enjoy and support the show and its friends without stalking Jon Wurster. So far, so good.... riiiiight, guys?
But yeah, get up with us on here or on the Twitters (i'm @leffjakin) and hopefully we'll do some fun stuff down the line.

That is not what I understand.

Buffcoat, if you are in the area you are of course not excluded from stuff! Don't be sad. You sound a little sad. GJ is right that we be chill and non-stalky. I'm @Miss_K_Cat on Twitter, FYI.

Just cheerfully and innocently misleading people as always, Miss K. I'm all right.
If something comes up that sounds fun to me, and I can do it, I'll be there - we did do a meetup before a Ted Leo show two summers ago. I went to the meetup and saw a few FOTs and their friends. It was fun.

OMG I did not type "We be chill" on purpose!

I thought you were doing a Herbert W. Kornfeld bit.

I wish I were! I forgot about that guy, which, I know, is disrespectful to his memory. I also want it known that I don't say "cool beans" either.

So, are we allowed to shamelessly promote our own stuff in this place? I'm going to assume that it's okay in my own thread at least.
Anyway, I'm one on the music directors at WXDU in Durham, and I have a show on Thursday nights from 8-10pm (with tonight being a rare exception). I'm happy to take requests and whatnot, and sometimes I have concert tickets to give away. You can tune in at 88.7FM in the triangle area or listen to us streaming.

There are lots of other great shows that are worth checking out too.

Also, last year WXDU ran a sort of Punk/Hardcore March Madness tournament called Slam Dance 2011. We made a bracket of 64 punk and hardcore bands and asked listeners to vote to determine who would move on to successive rounds. Minutemen eventually won the whole thing (beating out Flipper in the final round).
Well, this year we're back with Slam Dance 2012. It's going to be a similar format- a 64 band tournament that will run through March. Right now we are in the band selection phase, and we are asking listeners to vote for bands they want to see. You can suggest them here:
http://wxdu.org/node/661 (http://wxdu.org/node/661)
Every Monday night from 10pm to midnight, we will have a radio show covering the tournament, revealing the votes, discussing the matchups. It sort of ends up being incredibly nerdy, punk Sportscenter. I don't know if that is at all appealing to anyone.
Anyway, vote or tune in if you are so inclined.
