Title: Question about the origin of Chinatown
Post by: Senator Gothman (D-OR) on December 25, 2011, 06:40:51 PM
I don't know where to put this, and I don't want to get yelled at, but I've seen Chinatown and read it a few times, but I don't know anything about its origin, what it's supposed to be, and why Tom hates it (besides the obvious back and forth personal taunting). I have tried searching the FOT forum archive, but apparently, at some point in time, board data has been lost so that any origin of FOT dealings with Chinatown, explicit or implied, have been obscured. Tom's tweet today regarding Chinatown makes me all the more curious, as I had suspected that Chinatown was in some way unofficially sanctioned by FOTs. Can some long-time FOTs shed some light? I've only been following the show since Summer '09.

Merry Christmas,

You're a very nosy fellow, kitty cat. You know what happens to nosy fellows? Huh? No? Wanna guess? Huh? Okay. They lose their noses.

A former mod built an anonymous section of this board, inspired by 4chan. It was often very, very funny, but at its worst it could be mean-spirited, gross, and embarrassing. It migrated to that other site a while ago after Tom requested it be removed.

Here's the link to Chinatown.

http://www.c-town.us/chinatown/ (http://www.c-town.us/chinatown/)

Go there and see cowardice in action.

Tom.

I only started listening to the show a couple weeks before Chinatown was removed; I vaguely remember Tom complaining about all the porn on it and Spike being strongly in favor of the board. So there you go.

If you're still interested in Chinatown (who wouldn't be!?), you could probably find an archive of it using this: http://wayback.archive.org/web/20080715000000*/http://www.friendsoftom.com/forum/ (http://wayback.archive.org/web/20080715000000*/http://www.friendsoftom.com/forum/)

Well, it's not on the wayback archive, but I'm just imagining it is the same as it is now.

But I thank everyone for the background info.

It was funnier and meaner in the beginning.

It sucked then and it sucks now. But now it doesn't even have anybody caring about it outside of a few fuckups who can't attach their names to their 'comedy'.

I encourage everybody to go there. Again, the link is http://www.c-town.us/chinatown/. (http://www.c-town.us/chinatown/.)

Register, post, turn it into whatever you want.

Tom.

Holy Moses, now it just seems like a mess! I'm sorry I brought it up!

Forget it, Raymond. It's Chinatown.

Oh, I'm already distracted by something else now.

There were a couple of iterations of it in between, but yeah, that's pretty much the story.

Stupid question: Do you need to join to be privy to all this meanness? Or has it been taken down?

Please disregard above question... It helps to actually click on some threads

I've clicked on the link a few times but the board is just so unfocused that I don't know where to click and just close the window.

p.s. - It's not suprising to find out that Spike is involved.
