Title: Monk S&W Easter Egg
Post by: sparkatus on December 27, 2011, 04:23:10 PM
I don't know if anyone else has posted or noticed this, but having just completed my set of Monk DVDs over Christmas, I was quite excited to see the below in the Snoop Dogg starring episode, Mr Monk and the Rapper.

The names on that poster look familiar...

But neither of these guys look familiar at all:

Nice.

That's an amazing find!

How come Tom doesn't have that poster?!  (I assume he doesn't, as Wurster just tweeted about this poster as if he'd only just now heard of it.)

Subliminal messaging.  I like it!

If Tom and Jon put out another "best of" album the cover should be a variation of that poster...

It would also make a great shirt as part of a premium...

Various characters say Tom stuff too -  Charles Durning (I think) on one episode calls Monk soft serve ice cream, & I remember someone else saying "can't go around it, gotta go through it".

Even more amazing is how Monk turns into a black guy from frame to frame.

Never underestimate Tony Shaloub's talents.

Tom's name is misspelled. I wonder if that's an inside joke.  It needs a "c", a bouncy "c". I gotta revisit Monk...I watched the bulk of them before I was a Best Show fan.

I got into Monk separately from being a Best Show fan.  Only later did I realize that Tom was involved with both things.  Monk got me to the point where I watch a lot of the USA shows and enjoy the quirky crime investigator format perhaps above all others in TV Land.

I also got into Jay Farrar and Mountain Goats and etc. without realizing that Jon Wurster was involved with those projects.  I find that most of my entertainment likes wrap around and are connected to each other somehow.

By the same token, I came to dislike Garrison Keillor (that voice, that hoary voice!) entirely on my own and was delighted when it became a Best Show thing to dislike.  My fury at Poster Children was purely a Best Show thing tho.

Definitely, I'd noticed a few pieces of Tom-esque humour throughout the show. I believe that there is also a character mentioned in an earlier series called "Jon Wurster" as well.

And as a fan of SSD, there's times on the show when Monk all but turns into Andy Breckman.

Yeah, me as well - I saw the first 3 or 4 seasons as they ran but after that lost track of it as my awareness of what's on the teevee cuts in and out depending on what's going on in life. I caught up w/the rest when they came on netflix instant. I call these types of shows puzzle mysteries & I like them as much as I do police procedurals and shit like that. I think awkward things are funny - like every single stupid time Monk met someone followed by the moment when Sharona handed him a wipe.

It's the CSI type show that makes me queasy - everyone on the show is fucked up to an epic degree and there's glistening entrails and explosions and stuff.

Yes!  Kudos to whoever came up with the snapping.

I'm watching 'Mr. Monk Goes to the Asylum' at the minute, I was about to tweet a joke that made me laugh and went to check the character's name. This is from IMDB:

Quote
[John is giving Monk the grand tour of the hospital]
John Wurster: This is the Monkey Room. Funny story about how it got its name.
Adrian Monk: What is it?
John Wurster: We don't know. We just know that there's a funny story.

I haven't heard the archive about Poster Children (oddly enough, looking at the archive list, it was right around the time I started listening to the show). What exactly happened there? Was it similar to the current Mit Hamine situation?

It was hard to tell where reality ended and fontasy began, but Poster Children seemed at one point to be really upset that they were getting dissed by a radio show, and then the FOTs sort of harangued them for awhile until Tom more or less asked them to stop, then it totally died down.  I thought it was pretty funny.

the best part was Tom getting them to apologize - you could actually hear them squirming.

And it's funny, because the real Rose from Poster Children definitely (?) called, and then a fake (?) Rick from Poster Children who was not the usual celebrity impersonator called in, and the fake Rick talked to Zeph Marshack, who said he was Rose's uncle and started talking about how he wasn't welcome at Thanksgiving because he kept putting "little Zeph" in the "toikey."  It was one of the most marvelously off-balance moments in Best Show history, for my money.
