I've been thinking on a lot of examples of very poor choices made by established musicians to fit current fashion... The '80s left horrible scars on the careers of many great artists.
This one was just as well forgotten, but reminds us that even Zeppelin wasn't immune to tacky trends... the Zep hits mash-up at the end is really painful... or is this actually good?
Robert Plant - Tall Cool One (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fiH9yXKSMVM#)

John Fahey stayed pretty true to his style of playing and relatively good in the 80's but album covers like this always confuse me.

The part where Robert Plant forcefully points his finger downward as he sings "Goin' down...." :( >:(

Chris Cornell's solo album with Timbaland producing received near-universal condemnation.

I don't like to look at Robert Plant, ever, but I always liked the sound of this.

Fahey was trying to stay Revenant.

Does anyone remember the 2002 VMAs when Christina Aguilera was singing Dirrty and suddenly Dave Navarro appeared onstage in a turtleneck and was shredding on his Paul Reed Smith? :-[

Louis Prima - Sympathy for the Devil (http://blogfiles.wfmu.org/MS/Louis_Prima-Sympathy_for_the_Devil.mp3), from the The Prima Generation '72.
According to the liner notes: "The PRIMA GENERATION is now, yesterday and tomorrow. If you're 2 or 82, there is a place for YOU in the PRIMA GENERATION."

Pop has "Discotheque," which is far more egregious.

Mere words can never convey my disappointment that Louis doesn't sing on this. Also, I didn't hear anything that actually resembled the song, but it was probably based on Blood Sweat & Tears' version.

Which I suggest as either new Best Show theme song or the Worst Song Ever, by the way:

I'm laughing yet at the same time moved by that performance. And I guess now I have to say that Shatner does Jack Webb style interpretations of popular songs.

Brian Wilson's (in)famous attempt at hip-hop. Those with a weak stomach are advised to proceed with caution.

Billy Idol's album "Cyberpunk". The first time I listened to it I did so alone and still felt ashamed when he crooned "I'm the neuromancer... And I'm trancing."
Although it was alone it was one of the most embarrassing moments, as though I were watching "Caligula" with my parents...
Not that that actually happened, mind you...

Chris Cornell's solo album with Timbaland producing received near-universal condemnation.
I never heard the entire album, but he played "Scream" on his recent Songbook tour and it held up lyrically enough that I had to come home and Google it before I realized it was part of those condemned sessions.
I think he can get away with experimental stuff, even though the production might date poorly, as long as he stays angry.
I always thought the Mike Patton / Björk stuff was pretty tacky, but being intentionally weird or perpetually on acid isn't what I was condemning.

I dunno, sacrilegious of me maybe, but there is no stage big enough that Page should every have to share any of it with these bozos.

Blimey, that is a lucky escape for you all. Suffice to say, it's unbelievably terrible.

Ah yes, 'Cyberpunk'. I remember dreadlocks and a cover of VU's 'Heroin'. Not very good.

The Stooges' The Weirdness
They didn't necessarily change their sound but rather just released an album to stay relevant. It ended up sounding like your uncle's band trying to be The Stooges.

Wow. I can honestly say that the Fred Durst/other guy/Jimmy Page link is hands-down the worst thing (musically) I've ever seen on the internet.
Is there anything that can top that in terms of a legend who then totally reduces himself to something on that level? That link was like watching two dudes trying out an axe at the Guitar Center in Bayonne.
