FOT Fontasy Baseball is back for yet another season. As in years past, it will be hosted on Yahoo. If you're a fantasy novice, fear not because this is a casual, semi-competitive league. There's no money involved, only bragging rights.
There are up to 20 spots available, but they did seem to fill up relatively quickly last year. Therefore, if you're interested, I implore you to sign up ASAP.
League ID: 57586
Password: vance
Live Draft: Sunday March 11 at 2:00 p.m.
If you have any questions, concerns or suggestions regarding the league, please post them here.
Best of luck.

Will we be getting an email if we were in the league last year? When I tried to reup it gave me an error message saying if all teams from last year return, the league is full.

I went ahead and created a new league. You should be able to join this time. :-\

Thanks for the heads-up. The Bored Teenagers are signed up and ready to go. I'd say the early favorite is the Phil Anselmos, based on name alone. Fantastic.
-
Regan's Bong is back in action.
-
Proud manager of The Phil Anselmos.
-
I'm in. We're The Gentle Giants.
-
How do baseball FOTs feel about quiet board lurkers (specifically me) joining? Is this COOL?
-
Last year it was just the first 20 in, I think. So should be no problem. It's more important to have 20 active owners than it is to pass some FOT purity test.
-
I'm in. My team name is The Fudge.

You are, by all means, welcome to join.

I post five times every three months and I was let in (granted, I was somewhat active on the forum ~3 years ago, but still).
Also, you guys better hope my luck cools down. I got in second last year, and I won the FOT Fontasy Football league this year.
Gots my eyes on the prize this year.
-
I am all about maximizing my number of transactions, and last year I blew the competition away in this important symbolic category.
-
Thanks for doing this. I'm relatively new to the board, but (as the Intruder Kings) I'm glad to a part of playing nerd baseball with FOTs.
-
"nerd"?
-
Thanks as well, I am also new to the boards. If there is a vet that needs my spot I will relinquish it, but I am very much looking forward to this. My team is the Wow Factor.
-
"nerd"?
I suppose fantasy baseball is only "nerd" baseball in that it's all of the fun of keeping current on stats, with none of the fresh air or sunshine from attending actual games.
-
I just registered my team. I also just posted my first FOT message board post. It's this one.
I managed 4th place in 2008 as the Screwball(s with a z). Look forward to participating more this year.
-
There are still five spots open, folks. If you want in, I'd suggest you join now.
-
Someone at worked talked me into joining one this year. Is there somewhere to get a VERY FBB for dummies kinda thing? It took me an hour just to retrieve my old yahoo password and log in to the damn thing, let alone figuring out what to do next....
-
There are still 3 open spots. If you're interested, you have until Sunday morning to sign up.
-
We have to get one more, or three more. Currently we have an odd number, and the software will not allow the draft to start with an odd number.

Correct.
One more manager would suffice. Although, if there's sufficient interest, we could take three more. Either scenario is fine with me.
-
Still looking for one (or three) more person(s) to join the league. If you're interested, please sign up.
Thanks.
-
Well, that happened. Draft was only, what, two and a half hours?

Thanks for letting my pal Jeff in. He will definitely pay attention. He was one of the dudes I was in the live action league with from roughly 83 - 2004
-
I made some moves. I have no idea what I'm doing or what waivers mean or anything. Point being, if you lose to me you should be extra mad.
-
Hugman, you have a team? SEC BROTHER
-
I do. I'm the autodrafted Moozalellas. The spelling of which I question on a daily basis.
PS Why Is Ryan Howard an available player? I thought he was gonna miss the whole season.

Some leagues are keeper leagues, so that you draft a guy on reputation who is out for this year hoping he will come back the next year. We are not a keeper league.
-
I thought he was drafted. He's not out for the year... there isn't a set date but he's not out for the year. Although the injury might sap his power for this year.
-
I had a lot of fun last season but I cannot commit the time to doing it right this year. Good luck everyone.

He was. I was curious as to why he was even eligible to be drafted.

He's not out for the season, he could be back in June. And isn't everybody on a roster draftable?
-
Yep, as long as they are in the Yahoo database. It's a little surprising that Bryce Harper is in the database since he hasn't played an MLB game yet and probably won't be on the opening day roster. Yahoo isn't very consistent about when players get added though so I'm not super surprised.

I figured it was you when I saw all the remaining Cardinals got picked off waivers.

Hey, compared to what I had autodrafted I think I picked up some good arms.

I took a flyer on Harper there towards the end of the draft. I hope the gamble pays off.

I am excited about two things.
1) Losing week after week after week
2) Eight weeks into the season coming to my senses, then making three roster swaps a day to try to get back in it
-

6 move limit per week. Make em count.

Since when? And why?

It makes a ton of sense in this league. First, it's daily so you can stream players really easy and in a deep league there's always expendable players to stream. Second, our league doesn't use any statistics based on averages. So, since they are all counting stats it makes streaming even more valuable. There has to be a transaction cap.

Well, this is a shock to me. When did the categories change? I set up my entire draft on the basis that batting average, era and whip were categories. Was there some announcement that this was not so? If so, where?
Damns.
-
I can't find any message either here or on the yahoo board announcing that the categories had been changed. What gives? I put like 30 hours into writing a draft program using the categories that were listed for the league on the day that I joined. Now I have optimized my team for categories that we don't count. I mean, I don't mind using different categories from last year, but where was the announcement? Can we redraft? (that's just a joke, mostly, but i am not thrilled)

I didn't actually look at the settings so I didn't notice we weren't playing with like 40 categories until after the draft. It was a bit of a surprise to me as well, especially the removal of all the average-based categories. In the end it probably helps me since Uggla won't be killing my average, but it definitely would've changed my draft strategy quite a bit (like focusing more on pitching).
As for the transactions limit, I'm glad we have it. I understand why you would stream the way you did last year and it certainly was well within the rules, but it also started to border on obnoxious.
-
I could adjust the scoring settings to have average-based stats included, and then we could possibly do a re-draft, if a majority of the managers agree to it.
Personally, I don't believe it would be worth the hassle. However, I'm not necessarily opposed to it.
-
I am good the way we are, but in future years would be grateful to know about changes to categories and/or rules prior to developing my draft lists, which I put quite a bit of work into. Also, I got my buddy Jeff to even us up at the last minute, and he drafted with the understanding that the stats would be the same as the previous year's. I am sure both he and I would have significantly different teams had we known what the categories were.
And sorry about the obnoxious.

Every settings adjustment is listed in the "updates" portion of the the league front page. I've never been in this league and made sure to keep track of the categories being adjusted leading up the draft and adjusted my draft strategy accordingly. I also noted the transaction limits while making a point of looking at the league settings. I would recommend taking a portion of the 30 hours devoted to creating a draft program and put it towards reviewing the league rules beforehand.
Consider this a vote against a redraft and my first salvo as unofficial league villain.
-
I knew about it, but forgot about it to update my rankings. However, the settings didn't really change the dynamics of the league all that much. I used a tool that ranks based on league settings, and the rankings didn't change all that much because for hitters, we were going with OPS which favors low average players. The pitching categories still favor pitchers who put up good ERA and WHIP without actually counting those categories. The middle of the road pitchers were still ranked about the same- Both settings reward pitchers that go deep into games over guys who rack up K's but give a lot of free passes. I had Mark Reynolds as the 18th best player available with the old categories, and I think he was like 16th with the new categories. I don't think a redraft is necessary.

Jesus, I don't know you, but kiss my ass. I got an invitation to play in the same league I was in last year, and the first thing I did was check the scoring categories, which were the same as last year. Asshole.
-
I was teasing more than anything, but the fact of the matter is all the information was there for you to review. I'm trying to say that maybe you put the cart before the horse, but I apologize for getting too personal.
Part of my draft strategy involved the fact the categories were unconventional, changed frequently leading up to the draft, and possibly unconsidered by some owners. In fact, I refrained from drawing attention to the categories during the draft so as not to lose that advantage. Cutthroat maybe, but within the rules.
I'm used to playing leagues that are wildly competitive and rife with merciless teasing, and I should have known this league doesn't play that way. I'll keep it off the FOT board from now on.

:o
Remember that this is just a fun league that half of the participants will forget about come July. ;D
-
Calm down folks.
As I noted in the beginning, this is intended to be a casual, FRIENDLY fantasy baseball league. Obviously, some participants are more competitive than others, but ultimately, it's just a fantasy league with little or nothing at stake. There's no need to be exchanging insults with one another. And if you want to direct your invective at anyone, direct it at me. I'm the commissioner. I take full responsibility for any screw-ups that may happen to occur.
Although, in my defense, I did make it a point to actively solicit suggestions on possible scoring settings prior to the draft.
Anyway, for those of you who are dissatisfied, I would like to extend my apologies.

Sounds like a great first line to the greatest country song ever.

I draft FONPR!!

I don't know what any of this means. Let's do this!

I draft HUGMAN 2.0!!
Man, I am KILLING it at this game.
-
OK, my last word.
You DID solicit suggestions. My suggestion was to leave things alone. It's fine that you didn't take my suggestion, and it's your league to change as you see fit, but I was placed in a difficult position when I got on the phone and started begging guys to get in the league so that we could play, but misrepresented the categories because they had been changed without notification.
Thanks
dave

Getting rid of Melky Cabrera may have been the dumbest thing I've ever done.

And I thank you

Which one of you is My Strange Addiction? Please PM me so we can make arrangements for you to collect your prize, in case you haven't already done so.
Thanks.
-
Will there be a 2013 version? My friend Jeff, who participated last year, called and asked. If there's a league, we would like one spot each.

-
I was also wondering if this was gonna happen. Although The Failure Pile underperformed last season I think THIS could be the year.
-
If there's sufficient interest, I don't see why we wouldn't play again this year.
-
I would love to play. So would my buddy Jeff.
-
I would be in again.
