Title: So, I'm going to Metallica's festival
Post by: wood and iron on March 18, 2012, 11:40:20 PM
Metallica is producing and headlining a two day festival in AC. http://lineup.orionmusicandmore.com/ (http://lineup.orionmusicandmore.com/)

I'm so going. FUCKED UP! TITUS ANDRONICUS! GASLIGHT ANTHEM! HOT SNAKES! ROKY ERICKSON! MODEST MOUSE!

This thing has so much cognitive dissonance everywhere but I love it. I'm very excited.

Anyone else going?

Yeah so I'm thinking that maybe the whole Loutallica thing happened via Metallica's representatives whispering mystic nothings to  Lou's people, massaging psycological accupressure points connected to Lou's vaguely defined desire to somehow stay edgy and current.

And Metallica seems to have similarly muddled hopes in staging this festival, by attaching their name to Pitchfork-approved acts, mostly of more recent vintage. And also "Jim Breuer's Heavy Metal Comedy Tour", whatever the hell that is (Wouldn't Brendan Smalls/metalocalypse be a better choice for this kind of thing?)

And then there's the "Damage Inc" section of the show, which seems like a deliberate ghettoization  of the bands that would make more logical sense as  bands you could imagine supporting metallica.

I wonder how Brendan Smalls' 'Mr. Mustache' character would play to the metalhead crowd.

To be honest, I don't give a shit about Metallica's motives for doing this. I'm excited to see those bands.

I'm holding out until I hear an announcement about helicopter rides.

My excitement is tempered by the possibility of Lars Ulrich emceeing.

Sounds like they're putting on an elaborate nerd-ambush to me.
