Title: Netflix Friends of Tom
Post by: Laurie on August 08, 2006, 10:52:42 AM
Any of you guys have Netflix? What's in your queueueueueue?

Want to be my friend? I'd post my email, but I don't want to wind up on the mailing list for Aznlover or anything.

Laurie,

I'd like to be your netflix friend! I'll just send you a message with my email address. Anybody else want in?

I'm not posting my e-mail here either, for fear of more Asian horsepenis pics, but I'd be down.

Can't be worse than Asian eel porn clips.

Asian eel prawn? Sounds delicious! Asian eel pr0n? Not so much!

If you don't want your email known, you need to change your profile to keep your email private. Otherwise it shows up on your posts.

I forgot about that.  Oh well, bring on the Asian horsepenis.  (BTW for Netflix invites it's a different e-mail - brittonlowe@gmail.com)

I used to. I was the Disco Bandit Nicole Andopolis. It makes sense if you watched Freaks and Geeks.

Tim K suggested that I should compile a list of "FOTflix" (tm Tim K) email addresses for other Netflix users who want more friends, something I'm happy to do if all four of you guys are down with me giving your email addresses to fellow Friends of Tom. I promise not to give your email addresses to any Bridge Trolls or Asian gigolos.

Oh, and fellow Netflix users? Do not become Netflix friends with your co-workers. I now know one of my colleagues really likes Faces of Death.

Have you guys tried the streaming movies off of Netflix? I watched the first season of League of Gentlemen this weekend off Netflix, and I thought the quality was pretty good. I think you need a quick connection, though.

I haven't tried it yet mostly because I'm a snob about watching movies on my computer. Not because of the quality, but just the size of the screen...the Macbook is even smaller than most laptops. But it's cool they're offering it.

Never heard of "League of Gentleman". Netflix describes it as "a hilarious hybrid of Northern Exposure and Monty Python". I've never seen "Northern Exposure", but a combination of Monty Python and anything is probably worth seeing. I'll add it to the queue.

Is anyone here a fan of this show?  I tried but couldn't make it through 2 episodes- I chuckled, like, once.  I figure there might be some cultural nuances I'm missing, because the Brits seem to LOVE this stuff and the humor isn't exactly subtle.  I think it might just be... not funny.

The recent "The Thick of It" special (aired July 14) is around the internets... Malcolm's vitriol hits new levels in this one.  I read that the Christopher Guest remake was a dud.

The bottom bit of that last post is what I meant.  BTW, the next 3 items in my queue are:

Wire: On the Box: 1979 -  The band plays on Germany's Rockpalast, I've seen it before and it's good enough to watch again.

Rising Damp: Series 1 - I've seen the movie made from this show.  I'll pretty much watch anything with Leonard Rossiter.  Check out his short film Le Petomane, based on the real life of the "fartiste" of Paris: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evwLzR57wsc (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evwLzR57wsc)

The Pursuit of Excellence: Ferrets - This is a doc aired on PBS recently, covering the 2006 Ferret Buckeye Bash in Columbus, OH: "Only one lucky ferret will come out top dog, and only one owner will reach the pinnacle of excellence in this highly competitive event, the largest ferret show in the United States."  This is happening again later this month and I think I'm gonna go.  I don't own ferrets (my cats would be dismayed) but I think they're pretty neat, though misunderstood.  It's illegal to own ferrets in Iceland!  Plus there's an IHOP en route (from Pittsburgh).

How do I get in on this FOT Netflix thing? Who do I send my info to? :P

I've enjoyed the Watch Now feature so far.. It doesn't work with Firefox, but it works with the IE extension for Firefox. I just keep forgetting to make it auto-load in an IE tab, which frustrates me with errors.

Yeah, I just friended you all too.  Which is funny, because everyone I know has Netflix, and I've never tried friending any of them, but I'm curious about the overlap in movie taste among FOTs.  Most of you guys are in the 60-67% range, except, alas for (I think) Mrs. Cocker, who still clocks in at 56%.

I just went and friended a bunch of people, if anyone is wondering.  People with good taste are better recommendation engines than Netflix's software.

Stroszek is available through watch now.  Watch now works pretty well through Parallels, if you're on a Mac.

Huh.  I just queued that a couple of weeks ago.  Whereas Come and See looks bleak and heavy though, I also think Stroszek starts out depressing but ends up being kind of funny.

And by the way, Herzog's "Heart of Glass" is even funnier, mainly because he hypnotized the entire cast during filming and they literally act in a daze throught the movie (it also looks fantastic and the has the usual, great Popol Vuh soundtrack).

It's all about the action sequences, which if someone tried to sell me on a movie saying that, I'd be like, "um, yeah, pass".

There's something going on in the cinematography and editing of these scenes that make you feel like YOU'RE getting beat up. See on the big screen if possible.

Hmmm... I'll probably rent the first one, although I wish I could just skip to the new one.  If the action is more intense than the hypnotized bar fight in Heart of Glass I'll be mightily impressed indeed.

Yeah, they're a little heavy on the fists and light on the "script" but still pretty exciting for popcorn flicks. Think Die Hard without the bad jokes. Which, some would argue, are the best parts of Die Hard.

The most recent Bourne was pretty damn good; saw it in a drive-in double bill with Ratalouie.

I Netflix'd the first Bourne movie and wasn't that crazy about it. Not exactly bad, but nothing that hasn't been done better elsewhere. I wasn't cursing the movie for taking 2 hours of my life away, but I had no interest in seeing the others either.

I got a free Blockbuster trial a couple of years ago because they had that Cassavettes Criterion box set that Netflix has still never carried.  They kept sending me the wrong discs and I bascially had to guess which wrong one they'd send me depending on what I queued.

I just noticed that the interlocking quote boxes make no sense.  The things that are quoted by the person appear in a box, but if you look to see what's in each interlocked box, it doesn't tell you who said what.

i just sent back We Jam Econo (Mike Watt always gives me the best advice) and The Devil and Daniel Johnston- both movies ive seen a million times but refuse to buy for whatever reason.

in light of Pastor Josh's thread it looks like Netflix is sending me Danielson: A Family Movie (also on its third run in the netflix queue- how did it know!) and a bob dylan doc, disc one.
