Here's an update on this year and last year's WFMU fundraising premium.
The 2011 Premium is pretty much done. The singles are pressed and are being assembled. The download code was just digitized. The posters are done. The shirts are done. The buttons are done. They will be put together and mailed out to everybody who pledged in the next few weeks, I would think. Thank you for your patience with it - a couple of the tracks for the single took longer to be finished. But trust me - it's going to be worth the wait!
The 2012 premium is being worked on. The first thing I want to do is figure out how to get the Radiovision download out to everybody ASAP as a thanks for pledging in advance of the premium shipping. I'll keep you posted on that. The Best Show magazine and CD are a ways away from being done but they are being worked on. Trust me when I say that we're working on these things - we want them to get done as soon as possible but we also want them to be GREAT.
Thanks again for your patience!
Tom.

I don't know if you're looking for suggestions on how to distribute the Radiovision panel. If not, please disregard this post.
What I think would be easiest would be to upload the files to Dropbox or Google Drive and email a link to everyone to those who pledged. The drawback to Dropbox is that I believe you have to have an account with them in order to download. Also, I'm not sure if the location of the files could be returned in a DracSearch (or other internet search engine) query. With Google Drive only the uploader would be required to have an account with Google. You would also be able to limit access only to people given the link to the files (the files will not show up in DracSearch queries). I'm sure there are other avenues that the more tech-savvy FOT's could suggest. These are just the two that immediately sprang to mind.
-
Thanks for the update!!

Excellent point! I wouldn't want those leigons of AltaVista and AskJeeves-using bastards to steal this stuff without having made a pledge.
-
Thanks for the update, Tom.
This post made me realize I have a forthcoming issue: I'm moving this July. I had the foresight to have the 2012 premium sent to a permanent family address, but this didn't occur to me when entering information for the 2011 premium.
I hate to be a needle-in-a-haystack bother, but if Tom (or anyone who has been in a similar situation in the past) has a suggestion on how I could go about correcting this, I'd love to hear it.
-
email Joe McGasko http://wfmu.org/email.php?id=235&return=%2F (http://wfmu.org/email.php?id=235&return=%2F)
-
i have also moved since the pledge drive. Should I email Joe McGasko?
-
Yes, Joe McG is the king of all communication
-
Thanks, all.
-
Thanks Tom, can't wait!

These are the demons I hope we will be able to summon.

Tom, thanks for all of your hard work!
-
When that box arrives from 'merica...I don't know what I'll do....holey moley...but it's probably gonna be sodas all round at my place that night I tell you!
-
Thanks for the update.
Namaste.

Looks like DJ Terre T used her connections to the best show to get the World Exclusive play of the Rated G.G. single last week:

great song, such a twist of genius in the lyrics. hilarious. looking forward to the premium so hard.
-
I'm glad I listened to G.G.'s version first.
Mr. Gibbard's version is much funnier and far more pleasing to my ear.
Thanks for the tip.

I spent several hours today at 43 Montgomery Street, Jersey City.

If you're receiving a medium shirt there's a chance that I put your premium pack together. If you're getting a large shirt there's a pretty strong chance I folded it.
There's a wonderful team of people that are working hard at getting your items to you. I feel incredibly privileged to have been part of it for a single afternoon. I'm not sure what the status is of small shirts, XL shirts, etc. But things are happening and your items will be on their way soon if they're not already.
:)
-
Very nice! I'd forgotten all about that tee-shirt....
-
as a medium i thank you, bgz, and i got the haul in the mail today. this is excellent. im already watching julie klausner's commentary.
-
Hhhmmmmm...I don't remember getting asked for my shirt size. Hope it's not a 3XL
-
So many mediums, we should start a psychic hotline.
-
FAIR WARNING PEOPLE!!!!
I don't know if I should make a separate thread about this, but when you get your premium, DO NOT simply rip it open like you just got your Christmas gift.
Be very careful when you open it. I ripped my poster before I even got to see it. I don't want to complain about it. My fault. Just warning you guys so that you don't do the same.
Also, are the buttons coming at a later time or were they nixed?
-
There was a fine heave ho button in mine.
-
Eh. Oh well. Got a sweet shirt and an awesome comp. I'm content.
-
How big is the poster?
-
Oh, hi everybody! Scott's sent another email out seeking volunteers for next week....
Best Show on WFMU swag, more more more!
Hey all! Next week more big busy. Weds, Thurs, Fri - every day we mail the swag, 11am - 5pm ish. Wanna join in? Even for just a couple hours?
Hope to hear from lots of you!
Write him! scott at wfmu dot org ...
-
Got mine today. Awesome! Thank you to everyone who worked on this. Also, have we gotten the Radiovision download info yet?
-
My girlfriend found the button hidden inside the shirt! Awesome!
Also WFMU is sending me a new poster because they are GREAT PEOPLE.

This. Exact. Same. Thing. Happened. To. Me.
I wish I had read the forum earlier. That'll teach me.

I'm going to tape mine back together for a one-of-a-kind souvenir.

I am sick to my stomach.
What happened to the "Heave Ho" button?
-
Really counting on the Vance stress ball to get me through some tough times. Haven't got mine yet but I'm patient
-
For the record, I paid for the posters out of my own pocket, so I think that makes me the good person.
People please be careful opening the packages!
Tom.

Check inside the t-shirt. That's where we were stashing the button the day I helped get the packages mailed out.

Got mine today. I wrote up a discogs.com entry for the single, incidentally, since that's the site where I archive my music collection.

That was a reference to the mental image in my head.
-
Uh, how do you guys normally open mail? The fact that this ravenous tearing is an epidemic horrifies and delights me.
(Full Disclosure: I use a two-cycle, 10hp chainsaw to open all U.S. Mail.)
-
Is the "Mother 13" flyer on the poster a throwback, or are they still playing out? And when is Spike going to post a pic with his shirt?

Any music collection featuring Duh's Blowhard and Pretty Boy Floyd's Leather Boyz with Electric Toyz gets my approval.

Omar, thank you so much.
I've been a fan of Duh since that album came out. What I *didn't* know until recently was that the singer of Duh is the one and same as that of Hank IV! A fellow FOT told me this, and it was the crashing of two great worlds.
-
I got mine today. What an awesome package. The single is truly great on every level.
Also, thanks to everybody who posted warnings about ripping the envelope. My poster is intact because of you. And it's so beautiful.
Thanks Tom

Wow! That's amazing. I purchased Blowhard at a Camelot Music in a suburban mall. Those were the days!

Arrived in Ireland today. Poster is amazing. Well done everyone involved.

I just received my premium about ten minutes ago. I can't wait to open it...
Thanks very much Tom...

I hope it's a baby wearing a jock strap and a dog collar...
Thanks for the warnings on opening the package. I think I'll use some scissors and cut the bag open at the points where it's taped shut...
ETA: OK, so it isn't a baby in jock and collar... But it's a pretty funny picture...
-

You didn't get the button either?
To whomever asked about the poster size.... It's what a foot and a half by two or two and a half feet? Something like that... And every inch of it is Charles Burns awesomeness...
Question: Any chance we can get a DL link for the single? I don't have a turntable...
ETA: the download link is provided on the credit sheet inside the single... The more I look at that cover the funnier I find it...

I got the package after I returned from being out of town. It truly makes it worth all the wait. As I paid for two prizes, I am happy to see my first one, and without seeming ungrateful I would like to know if I will see the second one. I sent a note out once to make sure both prizes had medium shirts, I don't know the status on my second prize though.
-
Got mine today and it is wonderful. "Friends in the City" is so perfect.
-
Tom deserves such a huge hand for putting this together. No one phoned it in. "New York City Tonight" and "Friends in the City" are now two of my new favorite songs. As mentioned, the poster is huge and gorgeous and the t-shirt is great. I know it took a long time to put together, but it was definitely worth the wait.
Thanks Tom, Jon, Julie, and all the bands and artists involved!
-
Swag Pack has arrived in Austria and I am well pleased. However, I do think an opportunity was missed: I was kinda hoping for a version of "I Kiss Everyone I Hug".

Exactly. When I first pledged I though the single would work as a nevolty. I was so wrong. There's not a shitty (or even mediocre) cut on the album...
You win again, Tom...
-

You didn't get the button either?
I didn't get it either. Should I contact Joe McG or am I just being a baby?
-
Until Rated GG I had never actually listened to any of GG Allin's music. While I did enjoy Rated GG I must say that I think I could have lived a long, happy life w/o having ever listened to "Expose Yourself to Kids." He was a better guest on the Morton Downey Jr. Show than he was a musician.
-
I'm not even going to try to defend anything he did, but "Dead or Alive" is a great track:
http://youtu.be/N-qCytQYf_8 (http://youtu.be/N-qCytQYf_8)
That Julie Klausner track is so great.
-
I like thinking about how angry GG Allin would be to hear Ben Gibbard sing "Friends in the City."
-
I've never heard GG Allin's music. I enjoy the record and the digital bonuses! I find myself singing "Plead Me To a Lesser Charge", "Friends In the City", and "Nice Face" all the time, and the Julie Klausner track was the necessary cap on it!
-
The Geeg Cast is one of the funniest things I've heard all year. Brilliant switch up with Jon playing the straight man and Tom voicing a puny G.G. Allin obsessive. I dig the cover songs as well, but this is the highlight of the premium for me. Great job fellas.
-
Mine arrived in the UK today. Opened without damaging anything. Couldn't be more pleased. Poster up, T-shirt on (with button), download downloading and 7" on the turntable. And I've still got my mouse-pledge-sized swag bag from 2012 to come!
-
i haven't gotten my 2011 premium yet.
who should i ask about the status and more importantly how long should i wait to ask?
i know this is quite a process, so i dont want to be "that guy" and a nuisance.

Give it a few weeks, I do not think they have all been sent out yet. But if you are worried, email Joe McGasko, he is on the case and is never less than 100% courteous.
-
I also don't want to be 'that guy'... but my premium hasn't arrived yet... I'm in New York...
Is there someone I can email to check on the status?... I don't want to bother TS with
my 'where's my premium' bleating... :)

No, don't bother Tom. If you are worried, email Joe McGasko. Address is elsewhere on this thread.
-
I was explaining Rated GG to a friend who saw the 7" in my house earlier. First I had to quickly explain WFMU, The Best Show, and then I had to explain who GG Allin was (cue aghast face).
"So", I said, "The joke is that the songs were originally filthy, but they have cleaned them up to be suitable for kids, as the cover suggests"
She turned the record over, looked at it for two seconds, and pointed at the band name Fucked Up.
-
Anyone have a link to Hated that we could watch along with Julie? Its up on YouTube, but in a "special edition" that doesn't seem to line up... or is her commentary condensed to hit the highlights?
-
Having watched Hated once 10 years ago, I'd say you're much safer just listening and imagining what you're seeing (unless you're a fan of the food you ate earlier not staying in your stomach).
-
"Don't Talk To Me" is catchy.
-

I tried watching it along with the DVD, and it pretty rapidly went way out of sync. It does seem to be a commentary just on selected moments from the film. If you have seen Hated before, you will know what she is talking about. If not, well, you may just have to watch it I'm afraid. But (and without spoiling it for anybody who hasn't seen it), Julie does a brilliant job of excoriating the pretense of GG and his fans.
-
I was trying to figure out who Unk was and accidentally clicked on a hate site. Oh, no, that's it for me I guess.
-
I wonder what Unk is doing right now....
-
I think I have listened to the Geeg Cast 30 times. So much that I think I could make a podcast about the Geeg cast. I can't even think about Mayhem's (Andy's) repetition of the word "Children!" when correcting Don Reiger without chuckling to myself.
-
The inked version of the poster is BEAUTIFUL. Absolutely astounding. Also, if you pledged at a high enough level to get the colored vinyl, it should be coming with the 2012 goodies.
-
Got the Radiovision download and it was great! Thanks for sending it out early! Anyone know if the origin story slides are available anywhere?
-
I just got a package from WFMU! My second 2011 premium arrived and no torn poster this time! I think I like having the poster from the first 2011 premium to tape up to the wall...
I will be listening to the Geeg Cast again tonight... maybe on repeat...
-
I had mine replaced and am very appreciative.
-
I had the displeasure of seeing Chicken John perform "P.G. Allen" once in S.F. Baby Ruths replaced the fecal matter. It was pretty dumb. The two times I was supposed to go see GG play #1 my ride OD'd, and #2 he ended up not playing because the L.A. band wouldn't let them use their gear without a fee.
I had tried to book him through Merle for a show in the Palm Springs area promising $400 and my band's gear to use on that tour, but Merle said "I wouldn't play my living room for less than 600!".
Sorry, it's a sore spot with me that I never got to see him live! Did get a lot of footage from Merle and Pete De Mattia back in the day though...the Jabbers stuff is still my favorite.
-
How have people who paid to WFMU been getting their Radiovision downloads?
-
It went out in an email from Tom on July 11.
-
Huh. I did not get that email.
-
I didn't receive it either.
-
Me either.
Email Joe at wfmu, right?
-
Should we mail Joe at wfmu if we have not received this mail from Tom?
-
I would, yes ...
-
what's the Radiovision download?
-
I have an email account that I haven't actively used for about 8 years and I check it very infrequently. But when I did check it recently, I found the email with the link to the Radiovision download there. I'm not sure why it went to that address. So for people who didn't get the info, I would say to check any email accounts that you might have used to pledge to WFMU in the past, and maybe you will find the message there.
-
Currently any mail address that I can still access, no Radiovision download.
-
Write Joe McGasko for any and all marathon fulfillment questions. He will help you out!

Not that it matters, but I am a new donor to WFMU and was just curious what the timeline is to receive the Scharpling premium package. I gave a C note recently and selected his, but forgot to dedicate my donation to Best Show....I also gave 50 but assume the Sandy shirt will get to me when it's done. Thanks in advance!
-
Am I the first to get my Hurricane Sandy relief shirt? When Tom said Tues that it was coming very soon I must admit that my first thought was "I'm glad to hear this, but I'm not gonna hold my breath waiting." but come to find out that it was waiting for me in my mailbox today.
-
I got my Hurricane relief premium shirt today and it is sensational. I will wear it often and with great pride.

Great shirt--got it today, wearing it now!

Got my shirt in the mail today. Thanks, Tom!
-
Here's the latest on the 2012 premium.
First of all, thank you for your patience. So many people have been working very hard on it for so many months and it is getting there.
The Best Show magazine should be off to the printers in the next few weeks.
The Vance stress ball is being manufactured within the next week.
I should have the songs for the flexi disc in my possession in the next day or so and it will go off to the pressing plant ASAP.
I'm hoping to have the premium out the door for late March.
Again, thanks for your patience. It will be worth it!
Tom.
-
Good stuff, Tom. I'm looking forward to receiving it.
-
Just checking in that this still hasn't shipped. Otherwise I will have to start screaming at the post office. Can't wait to get it!
-
Very soon. Waiting on one final piece for 2012's premium.
2013's is underway as well and will hopefully be done shortly thereafter.
Thanks for being patient!
Tom.
-
Did anyone get any of the rest of the 2013 swag yet? Not complaining, just wondering.

And thanks for premiums that are always worth the wait. I still listen to "Rated G.G."...

I just moved, does anybody know where to update your address for when the premium comes?

WHOOPEE!!!! IT CAME!
(having some issues with the download links...)
-
2012's have shipped?
-
FYI - the download links included in the premium are CASE SENSITIVE. Don't make the same mistake I did!
-
Got my Premium today. Love the magazine, especially artwork throughout and the Scharpling & Wurster interview. Almost every question I've ever wondered about was covered, so awesome work Omar!

Thanks. I have yet to receive my copy. I really hope that my questions regarding Dokken, That Metal Show, a potential AP Mike-starring remake of the Suicidal Tendencies "Institutionalized" video and Charles Woolery made the cut. If not, perhaps I could sue someone?
-
Yes! They're all in there, Omar! I'm also pleased that your Dokken question mentions Norm Monroe, and that you bring up Werner, Roy, Jr., Harrops, and the other great "Non-Calling Newbridgians."
-

Great news. I'm hoping that Werner and/or Rutager resurface in the near future. I'm sure they have been doing sick, depraved things around town.

I found mine in the mailbox just about an hour ago. Sweeeeet...

Nope. They're in the letter that comes with the stuff.

Found it. And... Is thatJason From Huntsville, Alabama I see in one of the ads?

Yes.

So great! The magazine looks beautiful. And the download portion is something I had completely forgotten about. Wonderful stuff.
-
Hmmm...I haven't received anything yet.
EDIT: I received it today. Love the magazine and the Vance stress ball.
-
Nothing yet, but glad to know it's on the way.
-
The magazine is so great, I am so sad that there will only be one issue ever.

THANK YOU! Got mine today, can't wait to dig in :)

The magazine is my favorite pledge premium ever, and I loved Rated GG an awful lot.
It's full of funny stuff, but the biggest laugh I had was on the inside back cover, from the list of new Spike names for celebrities:
France Leg Weak.
I never would have figured it out without the guide, but it's perfect!
-
Got it yesterday. Thanks for all the hard work everybody. I will certainly give support to the advertisers as well. May the be only time I ever write that sentence again with sincerity.
-
Absolutely a work of art. I remember waiting for the DVD and believing it to be well worth the wait but this is a whole other level of awesome.
thanks to everyone who put this together.
-
This is so much more than it ever had to be. I can't think of any other artist, team or organization who would go so far above and beyond the call of duty. As Dice once said (but only once, I think) - "un... be-liev-a-bull."
Kudos to Tom and everyone who played a part. Thank you so very much.

Letter? Nuts. Did I throw that away?

I've got to go dig through the recycling when I get home from work. Were the codes on the invoice or a separate letter.

Just finished the magazine, and it is just as great as I thought. Many highlights, but Samir's pieces is one of my favourites, a perfect evocation of how one gets 'into' the show, and very similar to my own experience. I started listening in February 2008, almost exactly a year after Samir, and also being from the UK, many of the references went over my head initially. Nowadays, a huge amount of what I know about American culture comes from the Best Show.
On an unrelated note, has anyone received their non-Best Show 2013 swag yet? I haven't, but I imagine if the Best Show premium is imminent, they may be waiting to send it out all at once.

I received my FMU T-shirt and stickers and Therese's premium. The other premiums I'm due were marked as back ordered.
I don't think the 2013 BS premium is imminent is it? If the single needs pressing and packaging that can take a while...

I'm thinking of making some fortune cookies containing lines from Mike's wisdom...

She tore it apart. :-[

Well, at least she's internalised the sad face and you can now use her as the Vance stress ball now. In a non-cruel way, obviously.

Damn you Wally. Using an innocent puppy to carry out your sadistic designs.

So am I to assume I'm supposed to have my premium by now or are others still waiting? Should I shoot Joe a message or just keep my pantyhose on a lil longer?

I too have not received my premium which is no big deal but I am curious about whether to message Joe or not yet.
-
Heh, my beagle also desperately wants the Vance stress ball. So far, I've had better luck keeping her off it.
-
I totally forgot about the CD download till now. I never use those download card things...gonna have to do some digging too...

Was there a premium that included the commentary to Strosek? Or did I never get that one? I gave a few years in a row and cannot tell for the life of me if I got them all...

This is the one that's still being finished up now. I can't wait!

Great family moment over the weekend when my wife was getting all worked up and tersely asked me "WHERE'S VANCE?"
A few squeezes and a toss across the living room later, she was at ease.
-
Which premium had the t-shirt designed by Coop? I never received that one. Thanks in advance!
-
The one I didn't get was the landscaping service.

That was the Emergency Marathon following on from SuperStormSandy in October/November 2012.

Thank you! I ran into a friend and he was wearing the Coop shirt, so it reminded me. Don't want to miss out on it.

Did you pledge during the emergency marathon? If so something is wrong. I received that short quite some time ago. It's quite sharp, especially if you remember the old Holiday Inn signs

Have there been any updates on the 2013 Best Show premium? I know WFMU sent out the 2014 premium notices.
-
Thanks for asking!
Here's the status of the 2013 premium:
The ponchos are DONE.
The buttons are DONE.
The Gary the Squirrel 7" is AT THE PRESSING PLANT. The artwork is DONE.
The stuff should ship Very Soon.
Thanks for being patient!
Tom.

Are you able to provide an update on the Cherry Blossom Clinic 2013 Premium please Tom
I know it's not a TBSoWFMU premium but hoping you might know anyway? Think it was a mix CD and a flashlight?
Please & Thanks!
-
Thanks for the update Tom

I'm just realizing I never got that letter either. How am I gonna know when it's time to have fun?

I didn't either. I had to email Joe to get my premium and there was no letter included.

8) I emailed Joe too. He took care of it. All is right in the world.
-
Did the 2013 Premium go out? I heard the single on CBC but never received anything.
-
It has not. The record is still in the process of being pressed.
-
Thank you.
-
Got it! Its awesome.
(Anyone have advice on folding a poncho back up?)

I totally forgot about this. Found a package from 'fmu on my stoop this afternoon containing a record, a slicker (which anyone named 'Bob' can borrow) and a set of buttons.
What a wonderful surprise. Thanks Tom!

got mine a few days ago, too! wicked!

I got mine but there was a hole in the box. There were only three buttons included?
Also, I pledged for the colored vinyl/autographed single. Should I contact Joe to swap out or did this not happen? Scanned the forum and didn't see anything.

And if anyone else is interested, I just got word that the colored vinyls are being shipped separately and should be arriving shortly. :)
