Sometimes I gotta say, "Tom, you win." I'd written Pink Floyd off 20 years ago, but this broke me down:

"echoes" is one of those songs that i trusted the studio version to trump all, simply because of the composition. then i heard live at pompeii and my head exploded.

The weird thing about Live at Pompeii "Echoes" is that it doesn't sound "live" at all. The recording is as thick and rich as their studio version, with no ambient sounds from the wind or anything. Maybe they got Eddie Kramer to "clean it up" afterwards? Live recordings never sound this good!
