Back by popular demand, it's the FOT Fantasy Baseball league! As always, it will be hosted by Yahoo. There's no money involved. We're only playing for pride.
Initially, we'll have 14 open spots. If there's enough interest, we can expand the number of teams. For now, the statistical categories will be the same as last year's. Last season, there were a number of complaints about said categories. For this reason, I am actively soliciting input from league participants on what the ideal scoring metrics should be. After you join, peruse the categories, and if you have any suggestions on changes that need to be made, please share them before March 30. After that date, no changes can or will be made.
The live draft will be on Sunday March 24 at 2:00 p.m.*
League ID: 99969
Password: chiku
Good luck.
*Subject to change, if deemed necessary.

To be as clear as I can; I would LOVE to play, and I don't care what the categories are as long as I know a week or so in advance. Proud to be a part of YEAR TWO
-
FYI, here are the categories, as of now:
Batters: Runs (R), Home Runs (HR), Runs Batted In (RBI), Stolen Bases (SB), Total Bases (TB)
Pitchers: Innings Pitched (IP), Wins (W), Saves (SV), Walks (BB), Strikeouts (K), Holds (HLD), Quality Starts (QS)
I'm fine with the offensive categories. It's the pitching categories that I believe should be up for debate.
-
I'm in! This year I will be the "Pump Fours".
-
I like the push-pull of counting pitcher strikeouts and walks. How about a similar obstacle by counting batter strikeouts?
But really, I love to play no matter WHAT the categories.
-
I think i am OUT this year. Too many leagues.
I still need to mail My Strange Addiction his prize. I misplaced the baseball while moving apartments and it just turned up. I'll get it out next week, FOR REAL.
-
I'd like to see Innings Pitched replaced. Maybe some avg. (era, obp) categories too?
-
I love ratio categories, but a couple of folks last year expressed a preference for not using them. I can go either way.
-
i was my strange addiction. no worries kid pain! take your time. thanks for the update.
innings pitched is ok if there are enough ratio categories to discourage mass streaming. otherwise, that seems like the strategy for everyone every week.
-
I just came on the board to see if there was going to be a league this year. I'm looking forward to it. I really enjoyed last season.
I think most of the categories are fine, except for IP. It really does just encourage streaming in any pitcher with a start that week, and without any penalty for a poor start, it's just a race to waiver wire to win that category. The weekly cap on acquisitions helps this a little, but I know by the end of a scoring period if I didn't have to replace a guy due to injury, I was just grabbing whoever was out there with little regard for their skill set. I'd say it payed off, but I still lost in the championship round.
I think replacing or removing it along with QS in favor of ERA and/or WHIP might be good.
Just thoughts, though. Like Dave, I'm really happy to play no matter what the categories are. Thank you for setting it up for another season.
-
Excited for this coming season, I also agree with replacing IP with ERA or WHIP. Other than that I think everything else looks good.
-
Are there still open spots?

Are there still open spots?
As of now, there are six open spots.
Also, the IP stat has been dropped in favor of WHIP.
-
I'm in as long as we dump IP. That's such a useless stat since it just encourages people to stock up on relievers and starters on shitty teams on the waiver wire.
-
Here are the updated stat categories as of 3/11:
Batting: Runs (R), Hits (H), Home Runs (HR), Runs Batted In (RBI), Stolen Bases (SB), Total Bases (TB)
Pitching: Wins (W), Saves (SV), Walks (BB), Strikeouts (K), Holds (HLD), (Walks + Hits)/ Innings Pitched (WHIP)
Thoughts?
-
At the risk of sounding like a bully, I think it's terrific, but if people want to tinker with it, I am OK with that, too, as long as we can get them locked down in the next few days.

I would be in favor of dropping Holds and replacing it with OBP (or another batter based avg. category).
-
Holds has been dropped in favor of ERA.
-
Now we're edging closer to classic Rotisserie baseball. Can we agree on a date to lock the categories in place? I am on spring break, this would be a great week for me to play with some numbers.
dfk
Holds has been dropped in favor of ERA.

NERDS!

NERDS!
Don't you have the Peter Criss autobiography to finish?
-
KISS nerds > baseball stats nerds, am I right? Is this a good forum to ask that question?
-
Ok, with Holds out and ERA in I think the pitching stats are great. I like on base, batting average, or ops better than TB but i might be in the minority.
How many open slots? A non-FOT friend is looking for a league if we need another
-
Batting: Runs (R), Hits (H), Home Runs (HR), Runs Batted In (RBI), Stolen Bases (SB), On-base + Slugging Percentage (OPS)
Pitching: Wins (W), Saves (SV), Walks (BB), Strikeouts (K), Earned Run Average (ERA), (Walks + Hits)/ Innings Pitched (WHIP)
I think this will be the final statistical configuration. To me, this is the ideal mix of traditional stats and basic sabermetric stats. Hopefully, this works for everyone.
There are still six spots open, so if you have any friends or acquaintances that would be interested in playing, feel free to invite them.
-
Will do. Did you send the invites out yet?
-
For anyone who's still interested in playing, there are still five open spots.

Great!
For right now, I've locked the number of teams at 10. Draft time has been moved to 6:00 pm on Sunday.
-
Dave's been pestering me to join. I've decided I want to. Now, I gotta wait until someone else does, too, huh?

You beat me to the punch, Hugman. Can we drum up another? AP Mike? Maybe a GIRRRRRRL?
-
I moved the limit up to 12 teams, so that opens up a spot for Hugman.
We just need one more person.
-
thanks! the hugmen are in.

I will beat the bushes! Also I will look for another manager!
-
I gots a question. Anyone know if there will be an update to the player's list in regards to their eligible defensive positioning? Or do they supposedly do that as clubs announce who will be starting at each position if that player isn't already listed at that position?
-
I will take the last spot if it's still available.

The last spot is yours, if you want it.

How were the invites sent out?
I don't believe I received one

For some reason, I couldn't figure out how to send invites out. So I never sent them.
But you're more than welcome to join.
-
Nec13, where did you send the invite? I never gots mine's.
I got it. I checked the first page of the thread. Sorry for bombarding you with messages.
That being said, I can't attend the live draft. Hopefully the auto-draft doesn't completely screw me!
-
I'll be auto-drafting again as well. Looking forward to tuffing it out waiver-style. Mega-relieved that streaming pitchers for innings won't be a thing this time.
-
Please nobody draft Hanley Ramirez, Rafael Furcal, Chris Carpenter, or Jason Motte!
-
Shit, I hadn't checked the board in a while. Bummed I missed out this year.
-
pretty happy with my auto draft. making your own player list is essential.
-
I'm available for consultations.
-
jbissell if you want to co manage my team with me that'd be fine. i've never done that before but i'm pretty easy going about fantasy sports. i think i'm reasonably patient and fairly aggressive with waiver moves and less so with trades. also, i don't looove my team right now and i auto drafted against a pre determined list, but i still ended up with han ram. if that sounds good to you i'm open to it. also, i won the league last year.

Did you receive your prize?

Watch out! I'm back in!
-
Hey, I was in 11th the first couple weeks of the season.
Now I'm in 6th.
Chris Davis and Miggy are saving my season.
Watch out Hugman, I'm gunning for 5th.
-
Hey, I was in 10th, and now I am in 2nd. So, hey, any way the wind blows; it seems to be arbitrary. Or I am a genius, which is just not possible.
-
I am a genius...
Perhaps.
-
Today, and probably for ONE DAY ONLY ONLY ONLY, I am in first.

I'm an idiot.

Why don't you boneheads post on the league board?

This is how I'm picking my team next year:
