can i beg the community to point me to some prime moments where Jon uses the "wait, whaaaaaaaat?!" gag? or a thread that covers that?
I know there are some great Bryce instances, but lord knows popping between archives looking for them is taking me longer than ideal to prove a weird point to someone...
thanks all

There are a lot, but one that springs to mind was recently added as a Gem (Philly Boy Roy Is Having a Reggae Christmas). Tom tells Roy the mayor's house isn't a mansion, and Roy keeps going ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh in a higher and higher pitch, and makes Tom laugh.
-
i knew there was a recent memory of a good one...
-
isn't there one where Bryce takes a rip in the middle of the what?

I think they were almost a weekly occurrence during the Mayubinatorial campaign of 2008.

August 8, 2006: A Call From Gene Simmons, The Debut Of 'Good/Not So Good', The Debut Of 'Lighthouse Confessions', And The (Second) Trial Of Petey. | Listen: RealAudio
Jon's character calls in at around 29 mins. into the show to have Tom settle a bet with a friend ("Troy"): Whether a band Tom just played- John's Children- was a former band of Marc Bolan or if they were the first band for the bassist Michael Anthony from the Sweat Brothers (aka Van Halen). Upon Tom telling him his "pal Troy" won the bet with Marc Bolan, we get a prolonged "wait....whu-uh-uh-uh-uhuh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uhuh-uh-uh-uht? while Tom is still talking. I just happen to be listening to this one. We also get "why", "what's with the 'tude?", "Charles Sheen", "show some respect!", "I wanted to get the movie poster for Charles Sheen's 'Men at Work' tattooed on my back."
PS There are a few more "wait/what"'s during the "Gene Simmons" call.

... a prolonged "wait....whu-uh-uh-uh-uhuh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uhuh-uh-uh-uht? ...
For a while, JW seemed to be trying to set new "whaaaaat" length records. Anybody have a guess which call has the longest "whaaaaaaaaaaat" in it?
-
yees! i recall that one from 2006. sadly my work machine runs through a proxy and our general connection has been pants all week and the real player archives arent connecting. thats a perfect one for my needs.
I feel like there was a period around 2009 where it got almost out of hand..and then the variations started "wait, whoooooooo?" and "wait, whoooooooo --o--oom?"

In the Wednesday Rockets call, we got a rare and coveted "wait WHAAAAAAAAAAA-IN-AND-AROUND-THE-LAKE-AAAAAAT?

That's the best one.

I liked the "Wait whuuuu (bass solo from My Generation) uuuuuuuuuut?" but i don't remember when it was.

Pretty sure that was the Huckabee-loving bassist who called on February 12, 2008. I could be wrong!
-
Please please please, let someone with more time than me make a "Wait, whaaat?" soundboard.
-
agreed!
-
If someone does, they ought to include the Bishop's from last night.
-
I remember a hilarious one which went something along the lines of:
(suddenly shouting) WAIT, WHAT?...(much quieter) Oooh I just threw out my back saying, 'wait what."
No idea of who or when it was, but it at least a couple of years ago.

Corey Harris's slightly fluid-lunged one from the post-Everest expedition Mother 13 call.
Yes, I may have just listened to the Mother 13 calls for the first time this weekend.

Today I saw a "wait, whaaaaat?!" moment in an unlikely place, a post about the recent worldwide specific general localized global terror alert that was recently issued for US embassies in numerous, geographically disparate places. Here's the post, from a consistently delightful blog: http://www.loweringthebar.net/2013/08/crazy-pants.html (http://www.loweringthebar.net/2013/08/crazy-pants.html)
And here's the "wait, whaaaat?!" moment:
"It's not completely random," said another expert of the administration's reaction, "but most people are, like, 'Whaaat?'" Other terms used to describe it in addition to "Whaaat?" and "crazy pants": "willy-nilly," "baffling," "tenuous," "head-scratching," and "who really knows, anyway?"
I really hope that the blogger didn't just make up the quote (since he fails to attribute it), and that some "official" really did say that.

The Todd Palin call where the whaaaaaaaaaaat? is punctuated by the sound of Todd's snowmobile revving up

Been listening to all the PBR calls from earliest to most recent. November 23, 2004 call, which centers around that huge Pistons-Pacers brawl, has a couple of "Wait, whuuuuut..."s that are really amazing. (The call starts around 1:15 or 1:20)

the first one involves the cheese steak turkhoagie--a hoagie stuffed into a turkey served in a giant cheese steak
