Title: King Tut
Post by: SpaceBootz on June 13, 2007, 11:52:47 AM
Has anyone gone to see the Tutankhamun exhibit in Philly? I'm thinking about going, I just don't really know anyone else who's interested in it. So, anyone who's gone, is it worth the trip? I hear you have to make reservations.

I thought this was going to be about the "Batman" villain played by Victor Buono.

My girlfriend saw the King Tut exhibit in L.A. and she said it was TERRIBLE.  So that's my two cents.

I saw it in South Florida, and it was not so hot. KING TUT'S MUMMIFIED CORPSE WAS NOWHERE TO BE FOUND. If I'm going to pay $30 to see a King Tut exhibit, there better be a corpse which may or may not curse me.

Thanks for replying, guys. Sounds...not so good. I tried looking up exactly what is in the exhibit and it seems like the majority of it are just small artifacts/treasures from the tomb? I don't know, I guess I'd like to see the actual funeral mask.. but I did kind of assume the actual mummy would be there, too. From what I read it doesn't even sound like the coffin is in the exhibit..? Unless it just wasn't listed. Eh.

A projection of the coffin onto a raised surface is present. It's a total scam. It's like spending a million dollars on a Klimt painting, and all you get is a stupid lithograph, you know? I want my money back.

That's insane--so, what is it like then..? I'm picturing a hologram..a holographic coffin. In that case, they should've went ahead and done a mummy hologram, too.

It's just a platform or whatever, and they project an image of the tomb onto it. I think it's meant to give the impression that they only just removed it a few hours ago for cleaning... It'll be back in a jiff! It's so dumb.

King Tut (King Tut)
Now when he was a young man,
He never thought he’d see
People stand in line to see the boy king.

(King Tut) How’d you get so funky?
(funky Tut) Did you do the monkey?
Born in Arizona,
Moved to Babylonia (king Tut).

(king Tut) Now, if I’d known
they’d line up just to see you,
I’d trade in all my money
And bought me a museum. (king Tut)

Buried with a donkey (funky Tut)
He’s my favorite honkey!
Born in Arizona,
Moved to Babylonia (king Tut)

Dancin’ by the Nile, (Disco Tut)
The ladies love his style, (waltzing Tut)
Rockin’ for a mile (rockin’ Tut)
He ate a crocodile.

He gave his life for tourism.
Golden idol!
He’s an Egyptian
They’re sellin’ you.

Now, when I die,
don’t think I’m a nut,
don’t want no fancy funeral,
Just one like ole king Tut. (king Tut)

He coulda won a Grammy,
Buried in his Jammies,
Born in Arizona, moved to Babylonia,
He was born in Arizona, lived in a condo made of stone-a,
King Tut

when my friend and i saw tim and eric perform at the philly science center, they were marketing that tut exhibit pretty feverishly. there were billboards all over philly advertising it and my friend and I quickly adopted the word "Tut" for, well, pretty much anything. We were in hysterics by the time the show started. We're easily amused.

Examples:

That show was Tut!
That's the biggest Tut I've ever seen!
Tut you, man.
I could Tut all day

(funky tut!)

well, i've pretty much decided not to go. i really haven't heard any totally positive reviews about the exhibit. even the people who kinda liked it said that there was a significant lack of actual Tut artifacts.

but yeah, the marketing for it in Philly is very strong. i still don't understand the concept behind the "Tut Trolley." is it supposed to drive around Philly picking up random people who decide to go and check out the exhibit? ok, i guess..it just seems a little bit strange to me. and also, does the driver of the trolley dress in ancient Egyptian garb, including one o' nem headdresses? cuz if that's the case i might have to take a trip on the Tut trolley.

Tut trolley.

how was the tim and eric show, by the way?

I went to a Phillies game in April, and it was the Phillie Phanatic's birthday. He choose a King Tut theme.

The Tim and Eric show was AMAZING. We sat in the 2nd row and I got to go on stage for one of their "stunts". I've never seen anything like it. Their show was just this crazy combination of live sketches, music and video clips from the Awesome Show and Tom Goes to the Mayor up on a huge screen in the auditorium. Then they had some laser light-type thing in the planetarium. And cake. They gave us cake.

I got to talk to Eric after the show and he was so nice. He said he recognized me because I had sent him email before. Being that I was a big fan of theirs for years (even before the Cartoon Network stuff) I was stoked.

Tut that!
