Title: "Stroszek" - commentary by Tom & Mike
Post by: Nicholas Tanek on December 18, 2013, 01:35:14 PM
While listening to the final show, I received the Stroszek commentary by Tom & Mike.  I know it is early, but I wanted to make a post regarding this.

I am waiting to get the film before I listen to the commentary.

Also, when should I start the film and the commentary? I listened to the first 30 seconds and it seems like set up. Should I start the film as soon as the commentary starts or should I at a different point?

Any comments on the commentary?

You should start the film when they tell you to start the film.

That's what I wanted to know. So, they do tell you to start the film at a certain point?

If I didn't receive my commentary in email (I checked my spam folder and it's not there either), does any FOT have an idea who is the best person at WFMU to contact about receiving it? It seems rude to email Tom with such a triviality the day after he ended his run on the greatest thing there ever was. I can dig up my reciepts to confirm I paid my premium pledge if necessary.

Yes, Tom does a countdown to when you should start it. Also, if you've seen the movie before, the commentary is enjoyable without even watching the movie. In other words, we're not commenting on every detail of the action and there are several tangents that have nothing to do with the movie. It's kind of like Tom and I having a conversation with Stroszek playing in the background.

I have Gmail and it ended up in my SOCIAL folder.

I'm not seeing it there. My fear is that the person taking my pledge call might've put my email address down incorrectly.

Can I listen to this if I've never seen the movie?

Also: anyone else having trouble saving it? It'll stream fine but if i right click and save as it's not coming up as an mp3? Is it designed for some weird mac program?

Looking forward to dusting off my vhs copy of "Stroszek".  Hope it doesn't break, it's got sentimental value. I totally forgot about this bonus, thanks guys!

They do not mention Ian Curtis of Joy Division at all. What do you think of that?

For one thing, the commentary made me think of the metaphor of music and the dancing chickens.. ending... and the Best Show on WFMU

I pledged for the Studio Marathon in October and completely forgot about this being part of the Best Show Premium. Now I suppose I need to find a copy of the movie.

Thanks Mike and Tom for doing this, came out great!

"How do they [the Germans] stop from laughing when their word for 'the' is 'der'?"  I had to re-synch the movie/commentary again after having to hear this line by Mike again.

Who do the pimps look like? Like even more evil versions of The Eagles to me.

"A more feral Ed Harris." (I was wondering when you were going mention 'the tooth scene' but my tape was just a minute ahead of your commentary)

And that is one of the all time, if not the greatest last line of all time.

I'm so glad this came out after the last show...it's like a little bonus to get you through the withdrawal.

Before contacting Joe McGasko, check to see if you got an email from Liz Berg.  That's who sent me the link to the commentary, fwiw.
