Title: Grampy's Hot Chili
Post by: buffcoat on July 28, 2014, 12:57:11 AM
I've heard this call a million times, but not in awhile...

Which is the call where JW sings the following song:

"Grampy's hot chili was hot
The hottest chili in the land
Me and my sister had to run for the can
Cause Grampy's hot chili was hot [fart noises]"

It's at the end of a call and I just can't remember which one at the moment.

That's from April 12, 2005, Rick in Newbridge talks to Tim and Eric (who I've always thought sounded out of the Scharpling/Wurster loop and genuinely annoyed...though I'm sure it's just Tim & Eric acting Tim & Eric-y) about Tom Goes to the Mayor.

Thanks! That one hasn't come up on the iPod in a long time.

Also, there was a lot of discussion among the FOT at the time about Tim & Eric. I always really liked the Kalamazoo hotel call where they discussed how bad life on the road was.

The various FOTs' thoughts on Tim & Eric sort of paralleled the overall polarization I've seen among comedy fans about their work. I've never seen The Comedy, I thought Tom Goes to the Mayor was hit and miss.

I did really like Tim's work for Herman Cain. I wonder which Republican candidate will lock him up for 2016?

Yeah, they are an interesting duo. Overall, I'd say I'm a fan. I loved Tom Goes to the Mayor, enjoyed some of Awesome Show. Struggled to get through The Comedy, only watched the first half hour and didn't go back..though I do want to. They can be pretty off-putting when they want to be, and more than almost any other comedy team I can think of seem primarily interested in entertaining themselves far beyond any thing else and don't spend a lot of effort trying to please the crowds. I can totally see them getting a kick out of playing up these jaded LA stars on the Best Show and keeping it pretty straight and not turning it into a caricatured, silly, more digestible "bit".

Scharpling and Wurster have written for tom goes to the the mayor and I think awesome show as well. The Comedy is not Tim and Eric but Tim stars in it and does a great job, I really enjoyed that movie and I would suggest you watch the whole thing. Tim and Eric calling the Best Show are some of my favorite bits
